E3 2008

Question to those of you with 360's, do you like that dashboard he just showed? No offense, but it looked odd. Is it better than the current 360 dashboard or worse?

Edit - Lol now I know what's off about those little dudes, they remind me of the Team America dolls.

Double Edit - Their using up time at E3 to show off Uno? Not that I don't like Uno, but it is just a card game.

It looked like I missed nothing when I left when Jack said "DC Universe Online" & I bet he used "Second To None" a few times as well right ?

Good score for the 360 on the Netflix deal. Lately I haven't been ordering many movies from there, but being able to watch via my PS3 would have been nice. However atm it seems like a 360 exclusive deal, tho hopefully they'll do a similar BR deal from the PS3 down the line.

Now this isn't against MS, as much as this segment with that guy. In fact I think Fable 2 and GOW2 had a good showing. However this current segment has me turning the channel because it just feels so arrogant and full of itself. He has confidence MS will lead and so on, but only has enough confidence to show US numbers. I'm not saying he's wrong in the US as the PS3 numbers he showed had the PS3 at 4.5 mil in the US, and the 360 at 10.3 in the US. However he completely dismissed the Wii, and sales from other countries. Profits are profits doesn't matter where they come from, even if the US has the most sales the Wii wouldn't be leading if other countries didn't matter.

However again that's not a knock on the 360. I just hate when companies brag themselves up and all the while just showing the data that improves their image while ignoring the rest.

I certainly don't like it anymore than you do, but the fact is ALL of them do it.

For example...Nintendo was talking about how they lead in software sales, but they were counting Wii Sports and Wii Play which come prepackaged with the system and the controller. If you want a Wii, you're buying those games whether you want them or not.

For me, I don't have much of a problem with the current dashboard, but I do like the new one quite a bit. It's a lot less cluttered.

FFXIII for the 360? Not just vs. but the actual game itself? Gotta say that was a stupid mistake on Sony's part letting that go. I mean I thouroughly enjoy my purchase of a PS3 and have no regrets, and I'm happy that 360 owners will get to play FFXIII, but still a stupid mistake on Sony's part letting that slip by. You can toss it in the pile with DMC and GTA of reasons Sony needs to care about third party exclusives more.

I'm guessing you're just now watching the Microsoft conference from yesterday?

I would have to say that the show goes to Microsoft...not that they showed anything that interesting...it's just they probably had the best shocker, which was FF XIII going multi plat.

All three companies pretty much sucked this year.

Sony's only real trump card was GOW3 and they didn't even show any real footage.

Nintendo finally announced Animal Crossing and a form of voice chat, but the rest was devoted to casual games. The only real announcement noone expected was a new GTA for the DS.

Microsoft has a pretty strong line-up, but followed it all up with so much me-too software it's a wonder what they pay their big brains for. But talking Square into porting FFXIII was a huge trumper.

Looks like we have to wait until TGS to get hopefully some real announcements from Sony and Nintendo. :(

Did Jack really say that the PS3 was all about exclusives ? LMFAO did he not get the memo ? Mwahahahahahahahaha

Ya, I knew MS had their conference earlier, I just didn't watch it. In fact I rarely watch TV at all anymore. So to see that was surprising, now I know why Imdaly put "moving to multi thread now?" in the FFXIII thread lol.

So to my understanding FFXIII is exclusive to Japan, but will go multi platform in English speaking territories? Not that I'm going to get vs. (unless XIII really wows me, as XIII will prob be a big time dump as is) but what about it?

Yeah, it's not being released for the 360 in Japan. I'm not going to get it either, never liked FF.

For FFXIII I like the more Sci Fi look, but I just hope it's more interesting than FFX and FFXII was.

I'd have to agree Brainiac and give the nod to MS. I still think PS3 has the stronger line up, but MS got the shocker in FFXIII.

However I'm not saying MS's presentation wow'd me either. They showed multiplatform games like RE 5, and filled up a lot of space with very boring presentations of singing karioke games. Not counting having ppl act out for that the MS version of the PS eye toy deal, and showing games like Uno.

It's really Sony's fault tho. If they would have held onto FFXIII I think they could have topped MS this E3. However they didn't do anything overall wow worthy either. MS got the multiplatform presentations on their show, and the shocker. Sony just showed off tid bits of their big games, and had nothing overall shocking. I think both MS and Sony had poor showing tho, other than FFXIII and MAG no new information of any real interest. The other games both showed were things we alrdy new about, or were nothing important. Pretty lackluster E3 from what I'm seeing so far.

That's what I'm saying FadingCB, the whole of E3 was pretty bland this year.

Nintendo practically phoned it in, since they'll do well regardless..plus they usually don't pull the major guns until the TGS.

Sony showed clips of games that we knew about anyways, and bragged about success they don't have yet...justifying it by reminding us how successful their previous two systems were.

Microsoft showed off multi plat games like they were exclusives, and dropped the ball with their new casual bit...and the Lips and In the Movies sections were just painful to watch and probably did them more harm than good.

All the E3 presentations sucked this year, but MS gets the edge only bc they were the only ones that provided a shocker in the form of FF XIII. Everything else was predictable or uneventful

I'd much rather see gameplay then CGI trailers, so MS gets the vote from me.

Nintendo still gave the worst show.

I'm a Nintendo apologist and I agree with you. It was mostly focused on their Wii-brand games and even that was humdrum. The only thing of import at all that came out of it was Animal Crossing, Voice Chat, and GTA DS.

I was surpised to find out that GH DS already had a sequel coming out, especially since the previous one just hit shelves last month.

I realize Microsoft showed a lot of multi platfrom games, but I think most of them had something exclusive for Microsoft, like online content being MS exclusive for Fallout 3, Rockband 2 coming out earlier on XBox, I think Guitar Hero On Tour had some MS exclusive content as well. Plus at least they mostly showed games that are coming out this year. The casual gamer stuff did seem phoned in though.

I think if Nintendo showed one or two classic franchises coming to Wii they would've have a much better show. Kid Icarus or Punch Out, maybe if Wii Sports Resort was more just a new Wave Race. They just focused too much on casual gamers at a conference for the hardcore crowd, although I think all three companies did.

Sony dropped the ball, once again focusing on potential rather than actual games. I don't care that the PS2 keeps coming out with games ten years later, what has Sony done for me lately? They showcased five games and it looks like only one will actually be realeased this year. They God of War trailer wasn't shocking, it was CGI, everyone knew it was being made, it was really just like the Halo 3 trailer from a few years ago. Give a time frame for release, rather than a just it's coming sometime.

Really hope the third parties show us some great games.

No wait, I saw it. Obviously not learnt that PSP doesn't handle shooters then.

I don't know, in one form or another...they all dropped the ball and hard.

MS only pulled ahead slightly, and that is because they pulled the only real shocker of the show.

BTW the PS Store has a new section titled "E3 2008" where you can get some wallpaper and game trailer videos of various things from E3. I'm dl'ing the GOW3 trailer, and just to see if there's gameplay (tho I probably won't get the game) the DC vs. MK trailer. Looks like there was a Soul Caliber IV wallpaper in there too amongst other things.
