E3 2009

Don't believe the lies! "Swine Flu" is just code word for "Zombie Outbreak"!

:D

I could see that, kind of like a cross promotion for Dead Rising 2

Nah, people have died from swine flu too recently. It'd be in poor taste and you just know someone would use it to vilify gaming.

If anyone remembers the thing in the Kojima teaser that had a date of April 2007 and was speculating that was confirming a Raiden spin-off/expansion, well it wasn't. Apparently Kojima produces copied a teaser website for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse movie from that year, and that particular line of code was in tact.

http://kotaku.com/5263654/why-kojima-productions-copied-a-grindhouse-movie-site

When Kojima Productions launched a web teaser, many noticed "April 2007" written at the bottom of the page. People wondered what it referred to and if it was code for something. It's not.

That date, Konami now confirms, was an accident. "April 2007" referred to the release date for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse. As pictured, Kojima Productions and Konami used the movie's flash site in creating their own teaser site.

"We accidently uploaded the unfinished site," Konami Japan states. "The design team used the website for the movie Grindhouse as a reference for a prototype teaser." Those checking the site before it went live were "lax" Konami contends. "The prototype was uploaded as is," Konami continues. "As soon as our staff noticed the discretion, it was switched out for the finalized website."

Not sure how Dimension Films or Troublemaker Studios feel about their web-design work providing a template for this teaser site — and apparently without permission at that.

So it doesn't mean anything....or does it. A Grindhouse game confirmed!

New LOTR game coming and will be at E3:

Now that Warner Bros. Interactive has its hands on the precioussss Lord of the Rings license, Shacknews reports that the company has revealed its first game based on the franchise. The game was listed among Warner Bros' E3 debut titles and is reportedly named The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest. Okay, so an LOTR game starring Aragorn. That could be really aweso ... oh, wait, what's this?

Shacknews states the game "is the first Lord of the Rings videogame created specifically for kids and their families" and features "accessible gameplay set in a friendly, colorful rendition of Middle-Earth." Oh dear.

Looks like Capcom isn't the only company being bitten by the Swine Flu restrictions:

Capcom isn't the only Japanese developer to be gun-shy about this year. Yokohama-based company Koei is also preventing staffers from attending the Los Angeles gaming convention.

Unlike Capcom's decision to restrict travel of all Japan-based employees, Koei is sending a limited number of its Japanese developers to this year's E3. "With regards to E3, due to the current nature of and concern over the Influenza A (H1N1), KOEI has reconsidered international travel," the company told Kotaku.

"As a result, there will be a limited number of staff from the company's Yokohama-based headquarters attending this year's show. However," the company added, "members from our Toronto studio, KOEI Canada, will be at E3 to speak about a new title that will be publicly unveiled at the show." Think of that new game as a consolation prize.

I don't think I've really enjoyed any Lord of the Rings games. It's a shame, since it's such a rich world. They're all just sort of boring clones of the movies, and the sword and sorcery theme is so prominent in video games that there's always a similar but better game out there.

Something like Total War would be excellent for Lord Of The Rings.
Instead they used Battle For Middle Earth in which you have a couple of dozen measly units and typical base building stuff.

If you've not got a countdown on your website then your game's a nobody. Splinter Cell: Conviction, Assassin's Creed 2 and even Hideo Kojima have becomes masters of the tease. So to, has UK indie studio Just Add Water.

The UK developer recently began work on its first major PlayStation 3 project and a countdown has appeared on the dev's website that points to an E3 reveal.

The countdown ends at 20:30pm (BST) on June 2, which going by our E3 plan of events is right around the time of the Sony press conference. All we know about the title is that it's a retro style game.

The studio is also working on "various other projects on other platforms". Check back over the E3 week (June 1-5) for the full reveal.

http://criousgamer.com/capcom-to-give-fans-what-theyve-been-waiting-for

We earlier reported that the second secret title which Capcom will unveil at E3 2009 is non other than Devil May Cry 5, well we contacted Capcom asking for their word on this rumor.

Capcom immediately Replied saying, ‘It’s a title fans have been waiting for, everyone will have to wait until E3 to find out what the secret title exactly is but we can tell it is definitely not Devil May Cry 5′.

There you have it, it’s not Devil May Cry 5 but Capcom stating that ‘It’s what fans have been waiting for‘ certainly excites us and after giving it some thought we came up with 1 title that hasn’t been announced yet and has alot of fans waiting Onimusha 5.

Also:

As the days until E3 officially begin wind down, Capcom continues to leave a few hints about their secret E3 game. Thus far, the company has left a number of teases for gamers to speculate about: It’s something fans have been waiting for, it’s from a classic Capcom IP, and it’s not a remake. Oh, and it’s not Devil May Cry 5 either. Capcom is again being asked questions about the game on their twitter account and handed out two more hints. First, it’s not a fighting game. Rather, it was answered that it is an action game. That rules out all of the Capcom’s fighting IPs such as Marvel vs. Capcom. The other hint that was released is that Capcom Japan is developing the title. So this title is an in-house developed game unlike titles like Spyborgs.

Classic IP, not a remake, something we haven't seen in awhile, something fans have been waiting for, action game, it?

The only thing I can think that Capcom hasn't pulled out from their classic achieves is Megaman Legends 3. I know Megaman is still being ****ed out, but the Legends IP itself has been dormant for years now. Not to mention it's one series that I know a lot of fans want to see a continuation of. The only part is the action game part, I'm really not sure if Legends is considered an action game as much as an adventure game. It's definitely an it, though

Their guess of Onimusha isn't a bad one, though. We've not seen anything of it for awhile, and it's definitely an action game series. I don't know if one could consider it a 'classic' franchise from Capcom. I guess that parts up to interpretation, though.

Either way, I'm going to hope for a possible Megaman Legends 3, but my expectations of this becoming reality is pretty low. At least I won't be disappointed that way.

It sound to me like they are finally delving back into the Mega Man Legends universe...or at least I really hope so.

I have wanted it so badly.

I would die from the overload of awesome a new Mega Man Legends game would create...

Yeah, a new Mega Man Legends game would be fantastic news. I find it odd that there are so many MML fans on this board (Four of us. Maybe five. lol). Among my friends and on other boards in the past I'm always the only one.

I don't think it was particularly popular among the general masses, since it's a totally different take on the Mega Man franchise, but I absolutely loved it. I'm more of an action/adventure fan and I never really got into the side-scrolling Mega Man games, but I always loved the characters because I watched the old Mega Man cartoon. The MML games were like the perfect combination of that cartoon and a couple of really solid, adventurey RPG story. I loved the steampunk look of the games, too. Plus, they gave us Tron Bonne and the Servbots. :D

Same here, I too would love to see a sequel to the series. The second one was left wide open for a sequel, and Legends is probably my favorite installment of Mega Man. However, if it ends up being something related to the Mega Man franchise it'll probably end up being a new Mega Man X game. Since they revived the original series with Mega Man 9 and it was fairly successful, and we haven't seen a Mega Man X game in a couple of years now. Might even be a XBLA, PSN and WiiWare title like Mega Man 9.

I'm still hoping for a new Legends myself, but I definitely see a new installment in the X series as having more priority to Capcom. Of course, if it ends being Mega related at all

Lame. A new MML with 360/PS3-level graphics and environments vs. a retro Mega Man X game? I'll take the former any day.

If we couldn't get a new Legends game, then I would be down for a new one in the X series. I always loved the X series.

Although I don't see much point in them bringing it back. Mega Man Zero was a continuation of that series and Mega Man ZX is a continuation of that.

The point is money, same as always. MMX was really, really popular for a long time.

Same here, I'd even take a Legends game on the Wii for that matter.

Yeah, that is true, but since they brought back the original series to success, seems like a logical step to do on their part. Though, that is a good point to consider.

SquareEnix jumps into the unveiling of new Ips this E3, this time, three is the number

We've received word on what Square Enix will be showing at the E3 event, and fans of two of their biggest series will be extremely happy with the media set to get far better access to some key products than we had initially hoped. As much as we would like to tell you the specifics it has been requested that the names of the games be kept under wraps until the company has a chance to officially announce them. However, for the sake of excitement we thought we would give you the heads up so you can discuss it amongst yourselves.
We don't want to push our luck on this one, but there is no Square Enix press conference this year so you can expect an announcement prior to the E3 show regarding no less than three big surprise games which are currently unannounced - at least two of which are multi-format. We wish we could tell you more, but knowing something is better than knowing nothing debate below, but don't ask us because we're not about to spill the beans.

One of them seems to be Nier

same here. I loved MMX. Id love to see a new one but with updated HD sprites. I dont want them to do what they did here what they did with MM9

Yeah, MM9 seemed a little too retro to me. You can preserve the classic gameplay while updating the rest of the package. A 3D side-scrolling Mega Man game would be cool.

If you're a fan of the old games, I guess. I don't get why it had to be stuck in 16-bit form, though.

I personally thought bringing it back to its 8-bit roots was a stroke of genius.

But I grew up playing 1-6 and I really didn't like 7 or 8 near as much as the previous iterations...so I guess I'm slightly biased. :p
