E3 2010

Milo was not even real. The Kinect is not nearly advanced enough to map facial expressions, which is what Molynux said the "game" was largely built around. It was a proof of concept and nothing more.

It's not the lead platform.
Also I think you need to bare in mind he mentioned because of steam, the source engine might still actually still run better and/or look better on the xbox360.

The new 360 is cool. I just wish they could of fit a Blu-ray into it.

After giving E3 a little time to sinc in, 2 things are now popping out that I think Sony could make a bigger deal about and press as an advantage over the 360 that was touched upon this E3 but not prominently.

First, Blu-ray not just being for uncompressed data or allowing an extra level. EA's adding the first game of the series on the sequel for the same price could be touted as making PS3 versions of multiplat games much more bang for your buck. Developers have ample disk space to work with, and already have the data from previous titles, so it's not like it'll cost game developers much, if anything to do this. White Knight Chronicles was announced that they will do the same and add the first game on the sequel's disk for no extra cost.

Second, Gabe's speech on open endedness. It's already been proven that Sony is open to allowing developers to allow mods on their game on the PS3 with UT and Bioware's talk, where MS is reported not to be. I've also read that MS wants Valve to charge for things Valve wants to add for free (which could explain Gabe's sudden change of heart). Meanwhile Sony's allowing Valve to do what they want, even add Steam features if they want. I think Sony's allowing of the PS3 to be open ended with developers could become a strong point if Sony talks more on it.

I'll put it this way. Which version (if you own both consoles) would you rather buy (talking hypothetically)? 360 version, Portal 2, $59.99. PS3 version, Portal 2 + Portal 1, mod support, Steam support, $59.99. If Sony's smart they can press that exclusive content doesn't necessarily mean early map packs, or playing as an exclusive character in multplayer, but entire full length games coming extra for the same price. Or entirely new features that could change the gameplay length or content for the better drastically (such as game mods, see Oblivion for what player created mods can do for a game's quality, fun factor, and length).

The 3DS looked pretty sweet, and I can't help but wonder if my PSP is going to become obsolete pretty soon. The graphics on that thing are easily within the Gamecube quality bracket, and it looks like it's going to have a lot of support. PSP is getting pretty long in the tooth, sadly, and Sony's press conference made this painfully apparent. Their only real announcement for the system was that they had a new ad campaign coming that was a spinoff of the Kevin Butler PS3 commercials. I mean really? Is that the most effort you're going to put into saving the PSP, Sony?

I think this was the only true fail of the Sony show. You can think what you want about not showing specific games, but I don't think not showing them was a fail considering everything else that was shown. Their treatment of the PSP tho could spell the death of it. Now while it still does well in Europe and Japan, the PSP is absolutely dying in the US. Their answer this E3? A new marketing campaign....As much as I love the Kevin Butler commercials...his commercials aren't the the sole reason for the PS3's turn around. If the PS3 didn't have it's features, price drop or content, KB commercials wouldn't have led to the PS3's sales surge. While I'm sure the new PSP commercials will be funny, I think it's a pretty stupid move to put the entire consoles future in the hands of them.

Honestly, iv never had a desire to own any waggle type controller and still dont. With Kinect, im more interested in its non gaming applications.

Now this I can agree with on Kinect, and where I think it's true potential lies. As a gaming device I don't think Kinect can succeed personally (talking in actually gameplay, not sales). However on it's merits outside of gaming, I think it has potential. I believe MS will be implementing the tech in other areas as well, and I can see that being successful. Turning on a console with a word, and navigating through with a wave of a hand, that is compelling.

However it's not compelling (to me) on a gaming level. In the end I think MS is going to have a hard time appealing to casual gamers that this device is worth nearly $150-200 for gaming when you can buy a Wii for pretty much the same price (more if you don't have a 360 already). However I think this tech can appeal to that same casual crowd if it was being sold to them for it's non gaming features in other areas.

So do we have any news about the story of Z: SS?
http://www.giantbomb.com/news/what-zelda-skyward-swords-storyline-is-about/2179/

Wondering about the premise behind the newly announced Zelda: Skyward Sword? Nintendo wasn't talking about the storyline behind the game during its announcement this morning, but director Eiji Aonuma held forth about it during a roundtable after the show today. Shockingly, this time around there's more going on than "Ganon kidnapped Zelda and hey maybe you should go save her or something."

In Skyward Sword, Link is a boy born in a floating land among the clouds called Skyloft. Some sort of incident early in the game interrupts Link's placid existence and makes him aware of a land that exists beneath the clouds, one that's pervaded by danger and evil. Link naturally becomes too curious to resist traveling to this lower world, and it sounds like you'll be traveling back and forth between Skyloft and the land below (Hyrule?) throughout the game. The eponymous Skyward Sword is the tool you'll use to do that.

How about that piece of art that surfaced at E3 last year, depicting a spritely young girl bearing the seal of the Master Sword? Quoth Aonuma: "I'll just tell you straight out, the Skyward Sword becomes the Master Sword." I'm pretty sure it's not a spoiler if the game's director says it on the day the game is announced, right?

That is a crazy lineup. :wow:

Just tried the E3 Home space, why am I not surprised that such a good concept is fail due to bugs in Home lol. I thought it'd be cool to check it out, however Home has a bug atm that if you try to update it it just restarts your PS3. The Home team acknowledged this and it turns out you have to wait for the PS3's yellow light to completely stop flashing before you try to update it, or it'll reset your PS3. Meanwhile not everyone knows that that's the problem and probably think their PS3 is dying lol. On top of that, when I try to watch the Twisted Metal or Killzone 3 trailers it kicks me out of Home back to the Home navigation menu. So first you can't get into it, then once you do you can't use any of the cool features in there or it kicks you right back out...oh Home you little rascal you.

On the plus side we apparently all got Sombreros! Also, got to check out the Megaman shirt I unlocked in 10, pretty snazy...on the back, the front...not so much.

One game I was really surprised with was Kirby Epic Yarn. Really dumb name but the art direction in the game looks absolutely beautiful not too mention the gameplay looks like it'll be a blast to play.

I agree, the title is especially weird when it was paired with Epic Mickey... a lot of epic-ness going on. I do really love the art direction though.

I have to admit that the 3DS is going to be very difficult for me not to buy. It looks very impressive. The only negative so far is that there is a limited viewing sweet spot for the 3D. If you move it a little in any direction, you lose the 3D effect. Still pretty amazing with what they pulled off. I still would like to know the price though.

http://kotaku.com/5564654/zelda-details-link-is-from-cloud-city-game-might-not-make-2010

CASTLE IN THE SKY - In a first for the franchise, Link isn't raised in a village. At least, not one on the ground. He's instead from the land of Skyloft, a floating island in the sky. Link only "discovers" the land below later in life, and finds it overrun by evil. He thus spends the game going between his home in the clouds and the land below (hence the "cloud jump" in the game's trailer).

HUD-BE-GONE - The game's art style may look yummy, but that HUD looks yucky. Thankfully, Aonuma tells us that in the final retail version we'll be able to switch it off.

NEW MAPS - Acknowledging that previous maps in the Zelda series haven't been all they could be, series director Aonuma promises that Skyward's will be easier to follow, and won't leave you as lost as those in other Zelda games.

DOUBLE CONTROL - Similar to Red Steel 2, Skyward will use both the MotionPlus and Wii sensor bar to track your movements, meaning that even if you point the Remote away from the screen, the game will still know where you are.

BOOMING SOUNDTRACK - Mario Galaxy 2 had a big, thunderous orchestral soundtrack. Will Skyward follow suit? Miyamoto says Nintendo couldn't do what it did with Galaxy 2 and not do the same with the next Zelda, which we'll take as a "yes".

2011 - This game won't make 2010, as Miyamoto and Aonuma want to give the development team the rest of the year to complete the game and make sure it's in tip-top shape.

Yup, I'll be pre-ordering one as soon as I can. I'm also predicting Nintendo to sell this thing low, around 175-190...Nintendo KNOWS that many of it's audience relies on Nintendo being cost efficient and they seem to KNOW what kind of economy we live in right now.

Sure, they will probably lose money on it but if there's one thing we know Nintendo is the ONE company that can afford it, the DS has been printing them money since it launched the Wii just adds to it's massive money printing machine. I know it's the next generation of hand helds but I just do NOT see them pricing it at Wii price, I just don't.

As a friend of mine said "Having a handheld 3D unit, with motion and gyro sensors could be incredibly fricking wicked... look at a simple, everyday example... looking out a virtual window. As you move the unit around, you move your virtual eyes around, which gives you a fully 3d, perspective-intact, view out that window, complete with proper parallax, proper viewing angles, etc...:wow: "

A day later and I'm still impressed with Nintendo's show. Shiggy not knowing how to play Zelda at the beginning didn't effect that at all, more so since I've read hands on that say it's darn good. I also like the graphics decision made to give it a "mature" look yet keep the brightness of Wind Waker....because I'd honestly take Wind Waker and a sail boat over Twilight Princess any day.

$174-190 sounds right. The original DS sold for $150. That seems a bit low for this though. We definitely know they won't charge $250 like the PSP Go.

E3 2010: Firefight in Halo: Reach – Bigger & Better
Skull creation? Full customization? New armor ability? Whaaaaaaa?
June 15, 2010
by Ryan Geddes

The Firefight multiplayer mode Bungie introduced in Halo 3: ODST is back in Halo: Reach, and it's looking to be even crazier (and more flexible) than its predecessor. At a special preview event at E3 2010, Microsoft and Bungie gave us a look at the new and improved Firefight. Here's what's new.

First off, you'll get the full matchmaking experience here, unlike in ODST. You'll be able to customize your matches to your heart's content – weapons, maps, game durations and enemy behavior will all be tweakable.

There are multiple game types this time around, too. Default is the most general of the lot. It's a one-set match that's designed to be shorter and more casual. Pop in, pop out, go eat a steak. Classic mode is just what you played in ODST. You know, because it's already classic. Generator Defense is also a mode in Firefight now (you remember this gametype from the Reach beta that ran last month), and a newcomer called Rocket Fight sounds like it could become a new favorite. This mode is just you, your buddies, armor abilities, and an infinite supply of rockets. Yeah, that just happened.

You'll also have some new weapons to play with. The Target Locator may not have a sexy name, but it makes up for that by destroying the hell out of things. Use it to paint targets, and you'll be rewarded by a bombardment by an orbiting fleet. Think Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War mixed with the world's scariest airstrike. And remember the Concussion Rifle from the latest campaign demo? It fires explosive plasma rounds, and it's in Firefight, too. Deadly combination. And you can stop wondering – the Fuel Rod gun is back in Halo: Reach (and in Firefight).

Our look at Firefight unveiled a brand-new armor ability called Drop Shield. This one's sort of a mix between the bubble shield and regenerator from Halo 3. Power it up, and it'll give you and your friends some space to chill and heal for a bit.

Just like the overall Reach multiplayer, Firefight will come with game-specific rewards and challenges, available on a weekly and daily basis. Meeting challenges will net you special armor permutations. And the only way to get them is by playing Firefight.

From what we're being told, Firefight in Reach will be far more customizable than ever before. For example, you'll be able to create your own skulls that can totally change the pace and feel of your Firefight matches. You can make up to three, altering the traits of your Spartans, armor abilities and waves. Want to bump your health up to 200% and boost weapon damage? Feel free (wimp). This is basically Firefight any way you want it.

Bungie was also showing off two new maps, Waterfront and Beachhead, neither of which were in the Reach beta. This is all just the tip of the Firefight spear. We'll have full-fledged hands-on impressions of the mode later tonight, along with brand-new direct feed video of Bungie's latest title in action. So keep watching IGN for more.

That is a crazy lineup. :wow:
Ok I'm sold!

I hope Microsoft learns from their s***fest & tries to save themeselves next year. I'm giving them one last chance.
I can say to you right now that they didn´t learned s**t.
Microsoft has been falling since 2008.
In 2007 they had their best year with amazing exclusives like Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock (ok, it went to the PS3 the year after), Forza 2; and all great 3rd party games where in the MS console too.
In 2008, they only had Gears 2, Fable II and Left 4 Dead (that´s 3 great games in one year)
In 2009 it was even more ridiculous, Halo ODST, Forza 3 and Left 4 Dead 2.
They have a good year this year with Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, Halo Reach and Fable II; but, what about in 2011....they have Gears 3 and....errr....

My problem with Microsoft is not the all Kinect "crap", because after seeing it, i still see a lot of potential, my problem is the lack of 1st party studios, the lack of real exclusives (not timely) and the lack of any interest in changing that.

The Xbox is a console on the verge of being irrelevant, because Microsoft are a bunch of morons.
Their main goal is to make the Xbox a media hub, and that all games are sold primarily on their console, that´s why they love DLC.
But guess what, that´s a losing battle, and they haven´t figure that out (or don´t care).
Xbox Live is not nearly as relevant as it once was, movies and music are also on the other console, and to buy DLC and make deals with companies can go both ways (just look at Sony and EA)..
At this point, Microsoft is a pathetic company, that really need to rethink themselfs.....fast.

And, what about Kinect?
It´s not the technology that is pathetic, it´s the way it is used.
The Sorcerer game on the PS Move is better than anything on Kinect, and i can say right now that, with Kinect, you could make that same game way better.
But the thing is, Microsoft don´t have the brains to think outside the box like they once had (because they were once great), the moment they thought in jumping on the motion control frenzy, all they thought was...Wii clones, and so we have the crappy games they showned.

Cracked pretty much nailed my thoughts on this year's E3.
