It's been a really great show, I think. Pretty easy to pick out a top 10 from here.
10. Batman: Arkham Origins/Blackgate - It's the risks that are making this latest Batman more intriguing to me than its predecessors. Exploring an earlier Batman in videogame form sounds more exciting than controlling the faultless 'prep time' Bats in the last two games, and Blackgate ties because of the Metroidvania approach.
9. Infamous: Second Son - You expect first-wave next gen games to look pretty similar to the last generation's best games, but Second Son is already looking far and above the PS3's best efforts. The particle effects and destructive opportunities are especially refreshing for the franchise.
8. Killzone: Mercenary - Shadow Fall is shaping up nicely but right now I'm far more interested in Mercenary, the game that's seemingly taking Killzone 2's values to heart. I have high hopes that this will restore my faith in the franchise after KZ3.
7. The Witcher 3 - The Witcher games are definitive, quality experiences. The new trailer suggests that won't change on the next generation. This will be an incredible RPG, no doubt.
6. Warframe - Again, risks make Warframe intriguing. A launch-day, free-to-play, co-op, action RPG. It didn't get the best reception on PC but it has the chance to live and long life on PS4.
5. Outlast - Survival horror is best left in the hands of indies these days, just look to Amnesia for proof. Hopefully Outlast can bring that experience, something that's been sorely lacking this gen, back to console.
4. X - This is the game that will get me to buy a Wii U, no doubt. Xenoblade is the best JRPG of this gen and Monolith Soft have somehow got this one looking absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait for more details.
3. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - I'm a little worn out on the teasers and Kojima still playing MGS console wars like anyone cares anymore, but the Phantom Pain's trailer definitely impressed. The extended trailer was absolutely shocking - so much so it's a bit of a shame they didn't leave it for the game itself. And if that footage now was reeeeally running on 360, it's going to look sensational on One/PS4.
2. Octodad: Dadliest Catch - The E3 demo is usually confined to making you tense, excited, puzzled and awed all in one go. It's become a little tiresome of late, but Octodad's demo did something entirely new. It made me laugh, and laugh, and laugh. It there's a game I'm doing a 'media blackout' for until launch, it's most certainly this.
1. Destiny - Even with the online connectivity, Destiny doesn't exactly scream innovation, but it's hard not to get all tingly thinking about a new Bungie universe to explore with friends. The demo left me begging to explore more of this new world, which has the potential to offer all of the Halo fun but in a more complete, long-lasting package. Another shooter? Sure. But when it's promising to be the best of a new generation, it's hard not to get enthralled.
