Eastern Promises Sequel

me too. meee too.

It's funny how Naomi's pal Nicole Kidman are at the same age level, and yet, Naomi is aging quite well. Better than Boxtox Kidman.

could someone correct the title please, the C is driving me nuts.

Oops, sorry, tried to edit it, but it didn't take.

I really hope this movie comes to fruition! A sequel to this movie would be epic!

I usually don't skip Cronenberg films but I'll be skipping that one. I found the first movie to be beyond mediocre.

I finally saw the first one last month and I only thought it was ok . I wouldn't mind a sequel though because its a decent character.

Great film! I'd watch a sequel, for sure. No one really needed a sequel to the Godfather but GF II is one of the greatest films of all time....OF ALL TIME!

Exclusive: Vincent Cassel Back for Eastern Promises 2

After becoming one of France's top actors thanks to movies like Brotherhood of the Wolf and Read My Lips, Vincent Cassel began to appear in more American films, one of the most respected ones being David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen, in which he played Kirill, the unstable son of a Russian mob boss who raped a 14-year-old girl who came to them for protection.

Later this month, Casell's critically-acclaimed French gangster drama Mesrine will be released in the United States in two parts, and when ComingSoon.net sat down with him for an exclusive video interview last week, the actor told us that Kirill would indeed be back for the sequel, something he had discussed with Cronenberg while they were on the set of his current movie, A Dangerous Method.

"We talked very seriously about 'Eastern Promises 2' and it's going to be shot in Russia with Viggo and myself," he told us.

Good to hear some rumblings about this movie. I can't wait!

Phew. Looking forward to it, loved the first one. And it would be Cronenberg's first sequel, wouldn't it?

Fantastic that this is happening. Revisited Eastern Promises recently and still adored it.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first one (though I absolutely acknowledge its merits)... I dunno, as a whole it just didn't do alot for me, but Viggo needs to be in more films, so I'm cool with this.

I wasn't too keen on the first film other than Viggo's performance. So if they can make a better film, it shouldn't be hard in my perspective.

Unfortunately it's no longer a go as Focus Features has decided not to move forward with the sequel. :(

But the emphasis should be put on the past tense here, because we just spoke to Cronenberg (and his star Robert Pattinson) in New York as they did the press rounds for "Cosmopolis," and despite news of the follow-up looking promising, it seems that the sequel is no longer going to happen. When we asked Cronenberg what he had coming up next, the filmmaker said bluntly, "It was supposed to be 'Eastern Promises 2.' But that's dead."

And it looks like it's not come from the director or casts' end, but instead a studio reluctant to give the greenlight. "We were supposed to start shooting 'Eastern Promises 2' in October," Croneberg said, still sounding frustrated and in disbelief. "[But] It's done... If you don't like it talk to James Schamus at Focus. It was his decision."
