Eerie Boy Robot Unveiled

I know you were kidding, but I really do think that there is a chance of this happening, and in my mind, the potential risks outweigh any good that can come of AI. (While we're there, is there any reason to create artificial intelligence other than to say "I made this."?)

we could use robotics to fight wars i suppose. if you could operate a tank via a control station that would be of some use. also there was that robot on mars . i dont think giving them human like qualitys is useful in the least though .

Yeah, but they could be remote controlled, there's no need to make them able to make decisions.

yeah these things definately dont need to be making any decisions , they might harm innocent people.

so yea, those who think it is creepy, did you bother to read the whole thing? this is from it, i thought it was interesting, and extremely accurate.

Robotics, Hanson believes, should be about artistic expression, a creative medium akin to sculpting or painting. But convincing people that robots should look like people instead of, well, robots, remains a challenge that robot experts call the "uncanny valley" theory.

The theory posits that humans have a positive psychological reaction to robots that look somewhat like humans, but that robots made to look very realistic end up seeming grotesque instead of comforting.

i dont like how they look either, they should look like robots.

but it could eventually be like a pet, but more practical, less clean up, hell it can clean up after itself and you. god i cant wait for the lazy age. think of all the job loss...

Why would you want it to, that is even scarier?

I so wanted the bear. :csad:

You know what pisses me off? They're spending millions of dollars in creating little robot boys when we're still waiting for a Megan Fox sex bot.

Advances in AI coupled with Neuroscience and Cognitive Psychology all lead to a better understanding of how our own brains/minds work. You think this paltry animatronic doll is an indication of what is being done with AI?
