Skyrim's word of mouth is ridiculous. It's amazing how successful this game is, and it's blowing up all over my Newsfeed on Facebook.

Free video games for life is quite a treasure.
Especially when the game company offering the freebies is the maker of Skyrim (aka Elder Scrolls V), the latest in a series of award winning roleplaying adventure games.
Bethesda Softworks threw down a challenge early this year that they probably assumed no woman would take part in simply have a child born 11/11/11 (the day of Skyrims release) and name it Dovahkiin (that means Dragonborn in dragon lingo) to win.
Quest complete.
The game company officially congratulated Megan and Eric Kellermeyer for their part in bringing baby Dovahkiin Tom Kellermeyer into this world bereft of magic (Xanadu does not count).
Be it the real world or the game worlds we create, we wish young Dovahkiin the best in all his adventures, Bethesda wrote on the company blog. Theyve even got a pic of the tyke surrounded in Skyrim loot.
The challenge came with a disclaimer of pure legend:
Any reward for completing this quest will not ultimately justify the potential teasing your child could and probably will endure over its lifespan. Bethesda Softworks is not responsible for your parenting. You may gain experience points for completing this quest, but you will not care at 3 am on a work night. Completion of this quest may also result in decreased desire to play video games and/or function as a human being. Consult with your friends before embarking on this quest; while it may not start in prison, it probably ends there.
The prison joke is a reference to how Elder Scrolls games usually begin. The main character is stuck in prison and somehow escapes to become a hero. I should know my dark elf mage escaped death row and is currently torching zombies in Dustmans Cairn!
I dunno, its got a lot of marketing behind it. I wouldn't say its success is due to pure word of mouth.
I mean, I can't even visit SHH without a huge Skyrim ad appearing that I can't get rid of. They have a fancy live action ad, trailers, high ratings from the top reviewers, etc.
Anyways, so I've been watching a bunch of Morrowind vids and stuff, reading Elder Scrolls wiki pages, in preparation for Skyrim when I eventually buy it in a few weeks.
Is it overboard to look into the history of the Redguards so that I can pick an appropriate name for my character? Maybe I should name the character after one of their gods.
Or maybe I'll just call him Worf.

It was hype. It had tons of marketing. Alot of people also enjoyed Fallout 3 (i didn't) and Oblivion (again I didn't). Even if the game is crap, you are garenteed to have lots of content with a Bethesda game. And even if the content is bad, it will get modded you played 5 years after release. It's a pretty safe investment.

Skyrim is a very good game.
I did research for my character's name too. He's a Nord, so I use the viking form of my name: Mata and the Norwegian word for wolf: Dårlig
edit- and after further research, the norwegian word for wolf is Ulv, Darlig is Bad. whoops. oh well, sounds cool anyway.
That's pretty cool.
Does the game give an option for a family name, or would you just put a space in?
Apparently, most redguards don't have family names.
In Crouching Spock's defense, he did say this in the Gaming Lounge thread:
This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the Companions

Do you have to do that to get into the Circle?
Okay, so, I think I may go with Onsi, the Redguard's warrior God.

It's official, you're the video game hipster of the Games forum.
