Skyrim's word of mouth is ridiculous. It's amazing how successful this game is, and it's blowing up all over my Newsfeed on Facebook.

Anyone else think the Missing in Action quest is tough as hell? I keep getting swarmed by gaurds!!!! lol

Edit: I figured it out, I just ran past them. lol

This is what this phrase does to me. :awesome:

I dunno, its got a lot of marketing behind it. I wouldn't say its success is due to pure word of mouth.

I mean, I can't even visit SHH without a huge Skyrim ad appearing that I can't get rid of. They have a fancy live action ad, trailers, high ratings from the top reviewers, etc.

Anyways, so I've been watching a bunch of Morrowind vids and stuff, reading Elder Scrolls wiki pages, in preparation for Skyrim when I eventually buy it in a few weeks.

Is it overboard to look into the history of the Redguards so that I can pick an appropriate name for my character? Maybe I should name the character after one of their gods.

Or maybe I'll just call him Worf.

It was hype. It had tons of marketing. Alot of people also enjoyed Fallout 3 (i didn't) and Oblivion (again I didn't). Even if the game is crap, you are garenteed to have lots of content with a Bethesda game. And even if the content is bad, it will get modded you played 5 years after release. It's a pretty safe investment.

Free video games for life is quite a treasure.

Especially when the game company offering the freebies is the maker of Skyrim (aka Elder Scrolls V), the latest in a series of award winning roleplaying adventure games.

Bethesda Softworks threw down a challenge early this year that they probably assumed no woman would take part in — simply have a child born 11/11/11 (the day of Skyrim’s release) and name it “Dovahkiin” (that means Dragonborn in dragon lingo) to win.

Quest complete.

The game company officially congratulated Megan and Eric Kellermeyer for their part in bringing baby Dovahkiin Tom Kellermeyer into this world bereft of magic (Xanadu does not count).

“Be it the real world or the game worlds we create, we wish young Dovahkiin the best in all his adventures,” Bethesda wrote on the company blog. They’ve even got a pic of the tyke surrounded in Skyrim loot.

The challenge came with a disclaimer of pure legend:

“Any reward for completing this quest will not ultimately justify the potential teasing your child could — and probably will — endure over its lifespan. Bethesda Softworks is not responsible for your parenting. You may gain experience points for completing this quest, but you will not care at 3 am on a work night. Completion of this quest may also result in decreased desire to play video games and/or function as a human being. Consult with your friends before embarking on this quest; while it may not start in prison, it probably ends there.”

The prison joke is a reference to how Elder Scrolls games usually begin. The main character is stuck in prison and somehow escapes to become a hero. I should know … my dark elf mage escaped death row and is currently torching zombies in Dustman’s Cairn!

Bumped.

Yeah they've had a pretty big ad campaign leading up to it's release. Nothing as big as MW3 though. I'm sure that live action Skyrim commercial was pretty expensive too.

And it's not overboard at all, choose wisely my friend.

I did research for my character's name too. He's a Nord, so I use the viking form of my name: Mata and the Norwegian word for wolf: Dårlig
edit- and after further research, the norwegian word for wolf is Ulv, Darlig is Bad. whoops. oh well, sounds cool anyway.

I'm surprised. :o

It's official, you're the video game hipster of the Games forum.

Yea, you need someone like him tho, otherwise you won't know what's worth playing. Just look at whatever someone like him thinks isn't all that good and you know beyond any doubt that it is in fact, better than great.

But I wouldn't call him a hipster, that's an insult to real hipsters. In terms of music and clothes I would consider myself a hipster but I dont go around sh***ing on stuff just because other arent.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the Companions

That's pretty cool.

Does the game give an option for a family name, or would you just put a space in?

Apparently, most redguards don't have family names.

I just put a space in. And from what I've seen, they don't.

Man, I'm making the wait worse for myself with these videos.

I was under the impression quite a few people felt that way.
And no, it isn't motivated by the fact it is consolized or trying to be some super special person. I was hyped for Oblivion, tried to convince myself I was enjoyed it, then when the goggles went, relized it was actually crap. It's the case with alot of people, probably.

I'll give you an example (which I seriously doubt you will disagree with) just riding around on your horse, combat music will kick in constantly on and off as you are attacked every 40 seconds. The sky will go blood red with combat music kicking in because the landscape is over-saturated with Oblivion gates.

Fallout 3, did they fix the strange awkward faces stopping time? No. Did they fix the useless third person camera mode? No. Have Bethesda released a polished game, ever? No. This includes Skyrim, not just on the pc but also on consoles which have there own problems.

I think the problem is, it's probably 20 something hipsters reviewing these game. Bros with hairgel and tight t-shirts with a stupid meme on the front of them. Alot of people probably have a mass consensus of something being what it is and just assume it's right without looking at it yourself.

And yes, Skyrim is a good game. It still has alot of problems though.
At this point, bugs in a bethesda game has reached the point of expectancy.
