Elder Scrolls V - Part 3

I was kind of hoping they would gimp the stealth elements. It's over-powered and becomes repetitive. I'm playing Arkham City at the moment and that seems very balanced in comparison. It deliberately throws curve-balls at you to stop you using the same tactic over and over for both combat and stealth. The only real exploit I have came across is repeatidly diving bombing from rooftops over and over. For the most part though, it is very good and Bethesda could learn a thing or two.

Your point is moot.

In Arkham City, if you choose the proper upgrades (perks) then the "curve balls" mean nothing. You want to see cheap and overpowered? BATMAN.

Goggles? Don't see me. (perk)
Wait for dude to walk by. Drop down. Silent Takedown. GG.
If timed properly i've even been able to take a group of armed guys just by attacking them and bouncing between them.

Basically, if you choose to play cheaply, it doesn't matter what system they have in place.

It's a shame you wasted them all. Those Brotherhood missions were probably some of my favourite quests in the whole game.

Yea well those a**holes tried to assassinate me, twice. I couldn't let that go. I figured if they were willing to take me out(and iv done nothing but good) what other innocent people are they killing?

In my next play through, ill go through their missions tho.

But it's not their fault if they're trying to take you out, it simply means someone else wished you dead.

I've always been "uneasy" with the Brotherhood... I guess you could say, lol. They always came off as the only pure evil "guild."

Famitsu has awarded Skyrim a perfect 40/40 score. The first western game to receive that honor.

Was it actual DB members that tried to kill you? I've had some people come to get a bounty on me but they weren't DB.

I had about half a dozen attempts on my life from them, but once I killed their leader the hits stopped coming. Some army guy asked me to go take out the rest of them (by myself, with no help from the scores of soldiers he has at his disposal). I see no reason to guy wipe them out now that they've stopped coming after me.

LMAO :D

Sorry, I imagined that really sucked. It was probably a dragon.

By the way, where's your Avy from?

Saints Row 3 commercial....DUH! lol

Word. It's my fave part and I found a way to watch it all the time. :awesome: I had to cut it down tho, here's the full version.

yay.gif

I did the same with my Helmet. Placed it on the table, came back and it was thrown across the room.

lol I wish I did a test first. I hope it's a bug that they fix coz the house looks so lifeless with everything in barrels and sacks.

I have the first Dark Brotherhood quest queued up and ready to go, I'm excited to get into it once I finish the Thieve's Guild stuff.

Oh yea, it was them. They had the order note on them and everything. They're pretty hard to miss with this assassin outfit an all.

Yeah, they're not subtle. They usually just run at you in the wide open with a blade drawn. You'd think professional killers would have better tactics...especially when coming after The Dragonborn.

But maybe they just sent the newbies :woot:

The point isn't moot at all. That upgrade is optional after being spoon-fed to the mechanics which continue to vary throughout the game. until then, it is locked. You are given curve balls with an evolving experience in almost every respect. Right down to the texture and model work.

No son, this is over-powered. With AI that makes Arkam Citys look like Albert Einstein.

This is cheap. And a good example of the problems of linear gameplay hitting non-linear. As well as just plain bad design.

In Arkham City even when using instant take-downs you are being forced to move around. The game actively encourages you to use the arsenal at your disposal with an enviroment that changes from area to area. The gadgets themselfs are gimped. You can only disable two guns. Two mines, gargoyles can only be used once. Gas can only be used once in an area. This limitation is a good thing . it encourages you to play around and experiment.

Goggles? Don't see me. (perk)

You seem to be discounting is that the actual level design also alters...
Rocksteady deliberately remove gargoyles. Area's have specific cases in which you only get a jump advantage via stealth but then are forced to resort to combat. Cases in which you are not allowed to set off any alarms. There are also specific Riddler related NPC's which the game encourages to leave till last. Area's mined. NPC's walking around with scramblers that cease the use of detective mode. There is also alot of specific NPC's you cannot stealth against at all such as the league of shadows, which also prevents gliding kicking and throwing objects. Hell, when fighting freeze the game outright says "no you, are not doing that again" forcing you to move around the map altering methodes. Even though he is incredibly easy.

Arkham City has done almost everything right to avoid the feeling of redundantly doing the same thing over and over. To be cheap in this game, you need to go out of your way. The main problem in the outside area is that you dive bomb over and over. To be cheap in Skyrim, you really don't need to try at all. It's part of the game design.

Spock, you have unreasonable expectations of what is by all accounts a very large and detail filled game with way more gameplay mechanics involved than there is in Arkham Asylum. These guys work very hard to top themselves with each game, and EVERYTHING I read indicates that combat in most if not all areas is improved upon from previous games.

How can you reasonably compare a game like this, to an 8 hour game experience?

Eh? So far i'v played Arkham City for 25 hours and still haven't finished it.
I don't think it really matters if it is a big 100 hour game or an 8 hour game. Arkham Asylum was a more linear and shorter game with a more limited focus. Yet I think Arkham City still ends up being a more varied game and tightly tuned game. I mean for example, how many times did you fight Titan dudes in Arkham Asylum over over? In Arkham City it's been something like, two or three times. Rocksteady has obviously looked at the criticism they got for that and fixed it. It's kind of odd how everyone just seems to have over-looked the stealth in Skyrim. Can we honestly say it's good?

How? Stealth is a core mechanic in Skyrim. Just as important as magic and combat.

You're the only person complaining about it. I have not heard anyone else I know or anyone else online whine about the stealth. I use stealth, I'm fine with it just the way it is. It's not like Arkham City's stealth because it's not Arkham City. Feel free to play Arkham City to your hearts content, or continue complaining about teeny tiny little things that bother you about Skyrim. Whatever floats your boat man. :whatever:

Apparently, the guards saying 'I took an arrow to the knee' is now becoming an internet meme.

I don't think anyone has overlooked it. I just think people are more forgiving of some things in Skyrim not being as great as they are in games that are solely dedicated to those things. The stealth gameplay in Skyrim isn't going to be as good as you might see in a Batman, or a Splinter Cell, or a Metal Gear because Skyrim is not a stealth game. Stealth is only one small part of a much, much larger overall experience. I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement. I'm not even saying that it's especially good, but I do think that for what Skyrim is, the stealth gameplay is as good as needs to be.

My main guy is primarily a melee fighter. Shield and mace. I could complain about how the melee combat isn't as good as the Souls games. I could complain about how 90% of my combats involve me simply mashing the right trigger over and over and occasionally hitting the left trigger to bring up my shield to absorb a blow. I could complain about how the kill animations always treat my mace like it's a sword. But I don't. Because I understand that Skyrim isn't only about melee combat. And I understand that just because something isn't exceptional doesn't mean it's bad.

Well to be fair, Arkham City kicks all kinds of ass. I mean it's one of, if not the best game this year. So to say AC does a few things better isn't that unreasonable.
