Elder Scrolls V - Part 4

So I've been mercifully lag-free for the past two months. Then today, I got hit hard by the lag. I am playing my mage character who is a level 30 Brenton and out of no where....60-75 second load screens, if I'm walking, it just freezes up from time to time to load. It is really bad. When is 1.4 coming out?

I've been lag-free about 99% of the time on my 360, thankfully. It's frozen a couple times, but I attribute that more to the fact that I'd been running the 360 for like 2/3rds of the day for several days straight, playing Skyrim like a maniac. There was one time, though, where I was running around and came upon some ruins, and all of a sudden everything got choppy to the point of being unplayable. Like, single-digit fps. But that only lasted for about half a minute, then it was back to normal like nothing happened. It was quite odd.

Shouldn't be too long now:

As an update to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users, we’re submitting 1.4 to the console manufacturers this week. When these updates are available, we’ll let everyone know.

Hopefully they can get the lag down to reasonable levels. Unfortunately the real problem is something bigger than patches can fix.

Same thing happened to me twice.

Oh, stupid question: Does anyone know how the radiant leveling works? Does it go up in stages, or is everything leveled pretty consistently? Because I hit level 50 and basically nothing could touch me, and now I'm at level 53 and I've noticed I'm starting to down potions again periodically. Magic in particular is kicking my ass pretty hard if just a couple of mages have fireball staffs or adept-level spells, even though I have over 50% resistance to fire, ice, and shock and somewhere around 30% resistance to magic, plus an armor rating of something like 650.

Yeah the PS3's RAM is split and Bethesda has a terrible time finding a way to work around that. I am hoping it can be fixed with a patch, but I don't think it can.

Inspired by this article about pacifist gaming and the adventures of Felix The Peaceful Monk on Youtube I've created a fourth character.

I don't intend to go quite as peacefully as Felix but so far I've managed to escape Helgen, spend a night in Riverwood and speak to the Jarl in Whiterun without picking up a weapon or killing anything. I'm trying my best to keep the new character as peaceful as possible, although I do want to have the option of killing in self defense if needs be.

The other thing I haven't been doing is stealing, or really taking anything that hasn't been given to me or traded for. It wasn't until smithing in Whiterun that I managed to make enough money to get out of my prison rags. Keeps the inventory pretty lite!

You'd think they could ask the dozens of other companies that don't seem to have a problem with it. :o

Heh..good luck! i remember trying to play as that Breton girl you see on the game sliders, and only primarily used magic...not to mention only wear that robe for the whole freakin game...

Gotta tell ya, it ain't easy.

to be fair no other game developer has created an open world quite as vast and dynamic as Bethesda's games and thats probably for this reason

But you would think after having this issue with 3 games already, they would have it figured out by now.

thats true. They probably should have came into this with a plan instead of letting it happen so many times

Maybe there is no, figuring it out, maybe they do the best with what they have to work with? The PS3 is a pain in the ass to dev for after all.

That's not valid excuse anymore, 5 years ago maybe. Bethesda is supposed to be one of the best devs around, yet they can't get their engine to work on a system that everyone has figured out already. No other dev has these issues and they need to step it up. Plain and simple.

Well to be fair, Bioware still hasn't fixed the audio sync issues on Mass Effect 2 for the PS3. I guess some devs just like to ignore problems.

They should figure it out, but they don't really need to, do they? Skyrim sold a ton of copies, won a ton of GOTY awards despite all of the PS3 issues, and if they release Fallout 4 on the PS3 people will still buy it anyway.

It's ridiculous that even with the fabled "new" engine they used for Skyrim they didn't figure out how to not release a broken PS3 version, but they keep getting away with it (scooping up awards along the way) so why should they bother? This gen is almost over and then we can move onto a whole new host of issues next time.

At least they wouldn't release a game that can dip to 0 FPS lol.

Sadly, I agree. Hope next Gen they can get their act together.

I might have to buy both next time. Unless Naughty Dog starts to publish their games on X-Box.
