Elder Scrolls V - Part 4

Here's the way I play the games... The Fallout games is where I pretend it's actually an RPG based on Dark Tower and Skyrim is somewhere between A Song of Ice and Fire and Thor. I just wish I could get an outfit in Skyrim befitting of a son of Winterfell :P

Matt's Skyrim Nitpick of the Day:

I hate that they took out spells from Oblivion like lock picking spells, charm (which could net you better prices despite a low speech craft), and the spells that allowed you to carry more items. In Oblivion, you could play the game as a pure mage and do anything a more rounded character could do. Because of little spells like this being taken out, I find that much more difficult in Skyrim. I am trying to complete the College of Winterhold as a pure mage and it is proving difficult. Some dungeons (like Mzulft) just require lockpicking. It is harder to be a pure mage in this because so many non-attack spells were removed.

Somebody will make a pipboy mod for Skyrim...i'm sure of that.

Just wait until FO4 comes out...since it will use the same engine etc, there will be a mod combining those two games, like this mod that let's you use both games so you can travel back and forth between DC and the Mojave...:woot:

But I game on consoles. :( Next gen I'll prolly make the switch to PC. It'll be nice to go back to Fallout 3 and New Vegas coz of all the mods I'm missing out on now hahah.

^^ if you play on the 360, there is a way to get the pc mods on your game. Not all of the mods will work though-most likely the one that adds simple armour, weapons or re-text. It involves modifying your save game using a program called Modio if i'm not mistaken.

I played FO3 for more than a year on the 360 before switching to the PC...and let me tell you, once you made the switch and playing with all the mods, learning how to use the G.E.C.K etc...it will feel like a completely new game!

Hahah yeah I have a New Vegas save editor. I've only used it to play as a character that has max SPECIAL. The only mod I really want is one that can't be transferred... Project Nevada. :(

In Skyrim news I dunno what happened... I got bored of it. Everytime I thought about playing it I felt overwhelmed lol, so for now it's shelved.

^^ when you get a gaming PC, the only mod you should get is the one i mentioned, the RFCW. It's THE mod...coz you now can travel back and forth from CW to NV! it basically made FO3 a DLC for NV.

This is essentially the other side of the coin for all the good things in Skyrim, you get far too many quests/options...this also happened in Oblivion.basically, at first you're glad because all of the quests/ options, later on , after a few playthrough, you will feel overwhelmed by those things

FO3 has not enough quests, Oblivion and Skyrim got too many. The ideal situation would be- in my opinion of course- slightly more quests/options than FO3, but definitely less than what we have on Oblivion/Skyrim.

There's no such thing as having too many quests. I don't ever want to feel like I'm about to "complete" a game like Skyrim.

I just can't decide which type of character I really enjoy playing as so I keep starting over. :csad:

Every time I try a non-stealth character, I get bored I'm not stealth :(

I agree. Kind of like, I want the game to beat me before I beat the game. I thought Skyrim did really well with their management system, sure there are 500 quests lined up but we can pick and choose which ones sound interesting at the time -or even turn them off. Heck, we can even stop doing a quest half way through!

One thing that always bugged me pre-Skyrim was when I wanted to free roam, do my own thing, but more often than not there would be this arrow nagging me to go to it on my compass. No more! Now I wander around aimlessly and when I feel like some adventuring, one click and I'm on my way.

Another thing Skyrim did which I'm really hoping more open world games will implement (I'm looking at you, GTA) is the endless side quests like bounty hunting, assassinations, etc. Simple yet effective.

Fallout 3 had some of the best DLC this generation, so I am fairly confident they will do right by Skyrim.

It would be a waste of Bethesda's time. If you want multiplayer, The Elder Scrolls isn't for you. The lack of it certainly didn't hurt Skyrim's sales or reception.

It wouldn't HURT it either. I've played every Elder Scrolls game and while I really enjoy their massive single player adventure... Adding MP wouldn't hurt the game at all.

I never understood people standing so firm against MP in a Skyrim game... More so if it's optional.

No, it would hurt the single player experience if they also had to work around including multiplayer of some sort.

Like I said, TES is a series for a single-player experience. Want MP? Go back to CoD.

Oh please, come down off the high horse. If freaking TWO WORLDS TWO can add drop in, drop out co-op so can ES.

And no.. If Bethesda added in MP I do not think it would hurt the stand alone game. At all.

Keep in mind I'm not saying it's needed.. However *****ing about it as if it's a major turn away is, IMHO, dumb.

Bethesda already gave us a great game... If they give us great DLC and add MP into it... Why would it suddenly be a bad thing.. As if they would harm their game by doing it.

I don't see them adding MP in DLC but if ES6 has MP wouldn't that stunt sales? Would people suddenly not buy it?

No.. I fully believe if and when Bethesda adds MP it will be done properly... Or not at all.

MP in an RPG just feels incredibly forced. In TES, you're supposed to be one character experiencing the world. Shoving some MP into it just makes it forced and, IMO, cheapens the experience. I rather the developers fully devote themselves to a pure single-player game. Besides, they have enough trouble ironing out bugs in single-player.

Not every game needs ****ing multiplayer. I seriously would not buy any TES game or content if it had multiplayer. It's something I do not want in this type of game.

More features = cheap experience? I'm not sure I follow.

I think what Spidey-Bat is saying is, and I've read numerous interviews with Todd Howard where he's said the same thing, is that if they try and include multiplayer in their games that's time spent that they could have used on making a better single player experience. If that's the case, if it's really going to take so much time away from working on the single player experience that it gives us a game of significantly lesser quality then I'm with Spidey-Bat and Todd Howard, they should put their efforts into single player, even if it's just ironing out the (many, many) bugs.

Personally I'd love drop-in. Saints Row 2, among other games, have a great feature where you can jump right into your buddies game. In Skyrim it would be just like having a follower, except they could talk and show more initiative. I'd also like to leap into my friend's game and see how their world is doing. It would be pretty cool, but I can take it or leave it.

On the subject of bugs, I encountered a particularly frustrating one today during a Companion's quest that won't let me finish it. Now it seems like I can't do any more of the Companion quests until it's done, but I can't finish it because of the bug. How irritating, especially after I waited so long to join the Companions.

I'd buy two. One for me and another because you're being a goof in regards to OPTIONAL FEATURES.
