Eh, some of the mods are cool, but I don't agree that you need mods to enjoy a game to its full extent. Mods are just extra, enjoy a game to it's full extent is playing the game the developers made.

^^Seriously Kal, i don't mean to say this in a condescending way, but if you love Beths games, if you love the open world, the total freedom and whatnot, you should get a PC.

Their games, even though they are initially meant for consoles, is just tailored made for PC.You can unlock the game true potentials.

I know you don't like to feel pressured to buy a PC just for a game, but with mods, it'll feel like you play a different Skyrim everytime. It won't feel like you're just playing one, same game everytime, if you know what i mean.

It's more than just extra. You have mods that change the basic structure of the game, therefore changing almost the whole game.

For instance, on FO3, thera are mods that chnage the spawn system of the enemies, while adding completely new enemies, with completely new, different AI's than the vanilla enemies/creatures.There are mods that change the weather of FO3, getting rid of it's greenish hues, mods that change the leveling system to be more like the elder scroll games..the list are endless.

This is not to say you can't enjoy playing it on consoles.Hell, i've played FO3 for a year and a half on my XBOX. And i enjoyed it immensely. It's just i enjoyed it more on PC because of the possibilities.

I don't really know why Bethesda did it for the PC gamers. There is no other developers that i know of that gives something like the creation kit for the fans.If you don't know, the creation kit is a powerful game editor that allows you to manipulate game contents, literally everything in the game can be manipulated by that program...that's how the mods are made. They've given fans this program for free ever since their very first game.

Mods for consoles will likely never happens. The people who made the decisions don't want it to happen.

With the success of DayZ and the major increase in sales they saw for ARMA II because of it I have a good feeling about mod support from devs in the future.

True, base games are fine. But the extra stuff that the community creates can also extend the life of a game. Just look at the custom quests that have been created for Skyrim, like Moonpath to Elsweyr.

The mods that add little cool things seem interesting to me, but I'm not interested in changing the structure of a game. So I wouldn't be getting those types of mods anyways. :p

i cant afford to drop $1000 +/- just for a PC game.

You don't have to. I only spent $700 on mine and I spent more than I had to on some parts.

Yuuup, if you already have a PC case and hard drive and everything you can spend even less coz you just need to upgrade the parts. Seriously it's as easy as plug and play nowadays.

Anyhoo I dunno if there's a thread for it, but here's an Elder Scrolls Online alpha build review. It actually sounds really awesome if they deliver.

Come Jan I need to actually give my computer a bit of a facelift.

Today i decided to test something, see if my companions can handle a dragon without the aid of the dragonborn...no modded weapons or armors ( well except Serana flaming sword that came with her horse),and these are not ordinary dragons either. Used a mod that made the bastards tougher to kill.

Wel, we ran into a frost dragon on our way to Windhelm,so time for the dragonborn to sit back and enjoy the show...four companions vs a frost dragon on steroids!

End result; one close to dying, but they did it! was an awesome fight too, close to 4 minutes..

^I should try this on my Skyrim game, Mods excluded since you can't Mod a game on the PS3. I outfitted Argis the Bulwark with Legendary Level Daedric equipment, Armor and the two handed Axe to be exact. Next time we spot a dragon I should let him have at it.

Don't know if that's possible though, because the XBOX/PC fans would scream bloody murder.

Then they'd know what it feels like to be a PS3 owner wouldn't they hmmm?

*edit* I am getting frustrated with the Dark Brotherhood Quests in Oblivion. Why on Earth do you have to pick so many locks to get to contracts and whatnot? Am I just going to their houses at the wrong times?

.

One tip; don't give them any ranged weapons. If you do,they'd never approach the dragons and just shoot the dragon from a distance. That's how guards fights the dragons. My companions uses normal, vanilla weapons...even Lydia, bless her heart, thought it's a good idea to fight a dragon with an Orc dagger!

And now for something completely different...Miracleofsound just made an awesome song about the Khajits! enjoy:

Khajits likes to sneak!

So I gave in an bought Hearthfire. I wasn't going to, but it's cheap and I wanted something for my latest character to do now that's nailed all the major threads (civil war, Alduin, vampires).

Thus far I've received a note from the Jarl of Falkreath telling me I can buy a plot of land, and got told one child's sob story on the streets of Whiterun. The option was there to offer adoption but I instead wandered off and decided to go dragon slaying with Vilkus instead.

I'd like to know about each plot of land, is it possible to go to the three plots before purchasing them? Location is key. I'm leaning toward the one in Dawnstar because I like the area (snow, forests, etc) but have no idea where it is exactly.

I wish I could children in my game. :( I don't think they let us in the PS3 version. But if I could there's that one blond haired girl in Honorhall Orphanage that I want to adopt badly.

No, the best thing to do is save before u purchase the plot then go and check em out.

That's a good idea! :D

I wish there was a decent description of them somewhere online though, a video, even a map with some pinpoints on it. I've Googled it several times and nada, no one seems to have a detailed account of the land plots. My character doesn't have the money to run around buying up all three, I need to pick the best one.

I like mods, but too many can have a reverse effect. I originally played Oblivion on PC. I modded it like crazy, and used console cheats. The game, despite all the extras, became so boring and bland I quit shortly after. I didn't play it again until I got it on PS3. Being denied cheats, and mods, meant I had to earn my cash, and explore to get my fun. Which led to me playing, and loving the game far more on PS3, than I did on PC.

The PC version is superior, no doubt. Extra's are also welcome since you don't have to use them. I just think for me personally, mods are too tempting, and typically kill the fun when I over indulge on them. So I've grown to like Oblivion, and Skyrim on consoles just purely so that temptations not there. It may sound odd, but that's just what I've decided, gimped version and all.

With Sony being more opened to mods than the 360, I wouldn't mind if they brought over a few more choice mods from PC, and put them on the PS Store. I just don't want to have all the crazy mods available to me in seconds, tempting me, lol.

just staretd with Dawnguard. Wondering did you guys accept Harkron's gift or not?

The PS3 cant even handle the base game well! What shot does it have of working with mods? Sony would be foolish to put up mods for it on PSN, especially with the issues Bethesda is having

I have three characters, one hates vampires, one is a werewolf (and also hates vampires) and the other one can't figure out why he'd want to join the Dawnguard in the first place. I suspect once he rises to power he could consider the vampires a threat to his little empire, but that's a long way off.

So far I haven't accepted, but my 'do anything to gain power' type character probably will, eventually.

This is true, like with anything in life, too much of anything is never good.Moderation is the key.

The other drawback of using mods is the possibilty to F-ed your game.I've re-install Skyrim a couple of times now because of this.

Harkon is a scumbag, so i didn't accept his offer.

If it's only the vampire lord abilty you're after, you can get it from Serana, even if you've sided with the dawnguard

Can anyone give me some tips on lock picking in Oblivion? It's such a different system than in Skyrim. I was thinking to myself that if the locks were like in Skyrim I would have picked the lock for that on contract in the Dark Brotherhood ages ago. I think i'm just doing something wrong. I can't quite seem to perfect Lock Picking in Oblivion as well as I have in Skyrim.

Oh, and on Mods for the PC version, have any of you tried things like the Exploding Chicken or the interesting horses some Mods have created that you can ride?

I didn't say it could handle them, lol. I just meant I'd be fine if they had a way to make it work, and did put them up. What I meant is in the past Sony has said it was more open to things like mods. I don't actually think it'll ever happen, though we can always hope next gen. Also, IF that ever happened, I mean ones Sony and Beth would hand pick, and test for bugs before putting it up. I doubt they'd do texture mods, but maybe extra quests like Knights of the Nine.

I started out simple enough with texture packs. The realistic looking women one was very welcome since in Oblivion since both genders looked masculine, lol. Then I nabbed a few extra quests, and npc's. Eventually I got farther out there with some of the crazier enemy skins and such. Couple that with, instead of earning or stealing an item, I simply gave myself the cash to buy it, or popped it in the game out of no where, and the game just became too easy. Mods are a great idea, it's just that they can become like chips, and you can't stop, lol.
