Elder Scrolls V

I've debated to play ESO or stick with Skyrim. I just find it so odd to hear all these reviews that bash it, but find some gamers like it.

Many online-enabled games, MMOs especially, can improve over time with changes and additional content. Sometimes dramatically. Sometimes insanely. (FFXIV)

I only played TESO beta and I really didn't like it much at all, based on reviews I guess it wasn't much better at launch, but apparently the developers have made it a lot better since then.

When can we expect ES VI? Skyrim came out in 2011. I'd thought about a 5 year gap at the time but obviously that's not happening. Are we talking 2018 now? :csad:

2018 is most likely. Don't think about it in terms of gaps between Elder Scrolls games, but in terms of gaps between Bethesda Game Studios games. BGS is a single development team. Since Skyrim, they have been busy working on Fallout 4 which is coming out this fall. They will need at least a couple of years to work on TESVI after finishing Fallout 4. Building huge open world games like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout take a long time. Just be happy that they aren't selling out and churning out regular subpar sequels like a lot of other developers. I'm perfectly content to wait for TESVI. In the meantime, you have Fallout 4 to keep you busy, which should be awesome. :woot:

Thanks. Fallout 4 will be awesome for sure but I prefer the setting of a huge fantasy world to post-apocalyptic. I definitely don't want them rushing ESVI but it's (7 years!) a big old wait for fans compared to Assassin's Creed fans! Anyway I'm sure VI will blow us all away when it arrives.

Earlier in this thread I made the prediction of 2019 (if not longer), which I'll stick to for now. DKD is right, Bethesda have to alternate their titles.

Iceman, I think the difference between Assassin's Creed and Fallout/Elder Scrolls is the amount of care taken with each title, to say nothing of the sheer amount of content in each game. I'd much rather wait 4 years and get an amazing game each time, than 12 months and get a pile of dog doo.

Yeah, but we all know how inconsistent the AC series is in terms of quality. Half-Life 2 came 6 years after Half-Life 1.

Did you ever play TESIII Morrowind? It's my favourite of the series and there are now some excellent mods to update the graphics. Yu could use it to fill the gap for a little while! :yay:

I think I'd cry if they started ****ing around and pulling a CoD plan. Although a multiplayer feature in FO4 or a new ES with a limit of four or something would be great. I'd love to just join a game, have the option of just wandering around by myself then seeing a few dozen mini nukes going off in the distance with body parts flying at me from a mile away or have bandits attack me and while I'm fighting them off two other people join in and we team up to take them down.

I'm gonna predict TES6 in late 2016-early 2017. There wasn't much of a gap between Fallout 3 and Skyrim. Bethesda does have different teams working on the projects (although there is some overlap).

I think we'll get an announcement early next year followed by a release within a year of the announcement. That is how Bethesda has been operating as of late.

It was three years, and another four years between Skyrim and Fallout 4. If we're following the pattern, TES 6 will be 2018-2019.

I just started playing an Argonian and am level 7. From what I can tell there is no undersea swimming...is there?

There is, but there's not a whole lot to see -unless you have a mod, I guess. Up in the far north there's an ocean, and there's various lakes and rivers scattered around the country.

I think there's some ship wrecks and stuff around. Hopefully in the next game they'll do more with the underwater environments. Even if you don't play as an Argonian there's always a magical mask or ring or something that lets you breath under water.

Be a mage! It's the most fun!

That or a sneaky archer.

Better yet, do both in one! (That's what I morphed my guy into when I was playing heavily. But since moving from 360 to ps4, and pretty much discovering/beating everything,I haven't touched it. Such an incredible and fun game.

I was surprised how much I loved it since I'm mainly a sports game player with the occassional shooter thrown in, but I gave Skyrim a shot and put tons of hours into it.

I'm just mad the water breathing stuff vanishes from the shops after you hit the levels to actually buy the ****ing things.

I literally just started playing Skyrim about two weeks ago.

Not replaying. Playing. Like, never having played any ES game before, ever.

This game, tho. Amirite? :awesome:

Currently a LV 31 Nord, with 90 in Two-Handed, 90 in Heavy Armor, currently focusing on the Aludruin missions, waiting for my paycheck in a week to get Hearthfire, Dawnguard, Dragonborn, married to Aela, werewolf, 1001 bounty in Maraketh...

keep in mind some of the mods out there for this game, WolfofCypher... a lot of the mods add a lot of immersion to this game

Thing is AC is obviously way overdone, but for a hardcore fan of the series they still have more good games last gen than most other series along with others which are at least worth playing. I would love to play a ES game 3 years after Skyrim even if it had no improvements at all and just a new setting with the promise of the gamechanging bigger game another 3 years down the line. A gap of 7 years (if the next one comes out in 2018) makes it hard to even consider myself a serious fan as it'll end up being something I can only do very sporadically in my life. And however amazing Fallout and other Bethesda games are, they don't scratch the Elder Scrolls itch for me.

Nope, Oblivion was my first although I don't like it as much as Skyrim. May well do that!

I'm up to Black Flag at the moment on AC and I think most of the games have been at least half decent. If I was a major AC fan I'd say I was well served last gen, even if over-served!. I think they'd be better working on a 2 year rotation though while ES would work on a 3/4 year cycle. Fallout and ES are always going to sell so I'd love to see Bethesda expand so that they can work on multiple great games at the same time like bigger studios do.

I've never had an interest in computer gaming, but watching all the crazy amount of mod videos and how crazily in depth they can be is so incredible

I tend to steer away from magic most of the time. Sneak just sort of comes about naturally when observing the enemy, but I usually prefer the kind of sword and shield warrior type -leap in head first and bash everyone's faces.

Unfortunatley I dont have a gaming PC so I'm playing the PS3 version. No mods for me.

But out of curiosity, what kind of mods are you guys using? Visual? Game-exploiting?

Yeah I tried the sword nd shield type early on but once I stumbled upon the magic college place I fell in love with it. Then I started being a sniper archer to clear out caves and used my magic for boss types.

Once I had cleared most of the game I started learning how to smith the daedric armors/weapons and that was fun to smash and bash with lol.

A Nord? Pshh! Everyone knows Argonians are the superior race.
