Mystery/Thriller Elementary - CBS's Modern Take on Sherlock

I really enjoyed this season myself. And the Mycroft stuff was a big part of it. And instead of heading off into pure formula areas we have nice wrinkles, like Joan not staying at the brownstone, Bell's injury and recovery, the shadow of Holmes relapsing and now a cool set up that could have Holmes working on behalf of MI-6. Good stuff to my eyes.

Plus there are some things that need to be further explored in my mind that was set up this season. Irene/Moriarity's child, and her seeming "mentor" figure that we never met.

And can I just say that Quinn is such a great part of the show, even though his character is sometimes just an exposition machine. He just commands the screen when he's on it and it makes for a great relationship with our heroes because you get the sense that the Captain aint taking crap from Holmes.

I so hope we get some Mycroft and Irene action next season.

Before being revealed as MI6, I thought Mycroft's "sinister" plan was that he was going to try to turn the city into lizards. Well, he'll have to adopt a new identity now that he's supposedly dead, and Curt Connors is as good a name as any. :hehe:

Anyone watching the new season? Nice to see Ophelia Lovibond. I wonder though if Holmes and Watson will eventually be partners again.

Yes. I like that there hasn't been a return to good ole days yet. This is all going to take a while to get used to for all parties. I do hope that Holmes' time in MI-6 factors into things. And I really need Moriarity to make a comeback this season. Miller looks incredibly healthy as Holmes. He's got a healthy skin tone. He must have been spending time in warmer climes during the break.

Anyone else still following this? Last night's episode was SUPERB. The acting by both Liu and Lovibond at the last scene was great.

I absolutely love the way they did Kitty's character. She didn't ruin the Watson/Sherlock pair but instead elevated it. I love her dynamic with BOTH Watson and Sherlock individually.

It's alright I guess... I check in week to week but it never excites me or disgusts me.

'Sherlock' has some great lines, Liu is really awesome sometimes and their dynamic is really fun, but the plots and stories are lacking. It is on the higher part of the "procedural" pyramid.

A few weeks back Sherlock called sex a "horizontal refreshment", which is one of my all time favorite things Holmes has ever said in any medium.

Yes I just saw it. I follow this every week but no one else seems to be discussing it. I wonder if Kitty is going to try to get revenge on Watson's boss and then she'll either die or get arrested if she kills him. I hope that isn't the case but obviously Watson isn't going to stay there now and she'll probably resume her partnership with a Holmes.

I'm thinking Kitty will be written out because while I agree she enhances the dynamic, she was probably only ever meant to be a temporary replacement and the original status quo will be restored. She also isn't in the main cast so I think she'll be leaving. She's already been suspended from the precinct. I do hope I'm wrong however.

Yeah I definitely think she'll be written out eventually. Maybe she'll go overboard and kill Watson's boss and she has to hide? I just hope she doesn't die because I wouldn't mind seeing her guest star every now and then. :(

Kitty!!! I'm glad that she didn't die but I'm going to miss the hell out of her. :waa:

I wish we see Irene/Moriarty this season.

I knew she was going to leave as I predicted. Glad she didn't die too but I did wonder if she would murder Gruener. Isn't she still wanted for dissolving his face?

you would think so... I'll assume she'll be working now under an assumed name in London... or maybe she'll relocate to another area, once she is back in the UK... she can still be extradited for what she did...

If Kitty can't be in Elementary anymore, they should give her her own spin off where she can investigate murders herself and Sherlock can occasionally guest star.

Yeah, I think she'll be wanted but I doubt that the NYPD will be working hard to look for her. Not gonna happen but I'm all for a spinoff of her adventures in London.

I don't know about that... Kitty used a corrosive acid on Gruener's face, which quite possibly COULD have resulted in his death... though you're probably right that her character will either be brought up as a guest-star every once in a while with Sherlock travelling to the UK to assist or she MIGHT get spun-off into her own series... I'm for that...

Unfortunately, I think Gruener is stable. IIRC Gregson said something like he'll wake up in a few hours and they'll have to take his statement (implying that he's giving Sherlock the ample time to give Kitty the heads tart to flee). Kitty should've cut off his tongue and hand! :old razz: I hope they bring her back as a guest star in the future. I love the hell out of her character. :hrt:

It will feel like there's something missing now without Kitty, especially if they just go back to the old Holmes and Watson dynamic.

How come Holmes wasn't wanted for holding Sebastian Moran captive and beating him? I bet Captain Gregson would've taken the law into his own hands if his daughter were raped and imprisoned. After all, he did punch that police officer in the face when his daughter was being sexually harrassed.

BTW, was Gruener listening in on Holmes and Watson's conversation at the beginning just before he called to fire her? There seemed to be a recording or monitoring of their conversation and then he immediately called. However, this was never followed up later in the episode. Does that mean the place is bugged, or Watson is bugged somehow?

Also, nice review of the episode and season arc for Kitty Winter here:

I'm delving back into the first season after taking a detour through Season 1 of Game of Thrones, and have to say that I'm loving it even more than I did the first time. The way the show hits the ground running is awesome, and the "serialized procedural" structure is superbly handled, giving us just the right balance of case-of-the-week accessibility and ongoing character development and escalating narrative.

I'm currently rewatching Child Predator, which is, IMO, one of the best episodes of the season for a number of reasons, not the least of which being the way it, in hindsight, telegraphs in a very subtle way the season's big twist, which was a brilliant move, intentional or otherwise, by Rob Doherty and the other writers and producers.

How does it telegraph it?

I guess Kitty would have ended up throwing acid on Gruener's face as it happens that way in the short story, although she ends up in jail.

He can't say it was Kitty though. That brings up too many questions, such as how he knew who she was and why would she quite literally deface him.

And I am glad she didn't get killed off. At first I thought she was unnecessary and annoying but the more they developed her the more she became a likable and important character. Seeing her return in the future would be nice.

Good episode. Funny.

That ending though...:csad::shr:

Obviously it was that woman who bumped into Joan who laced the coffee, but was her intended target Joan or Andrew?

And most likely shes working for someone, but who?

I hate cliffhangers dammit!

So, who's behind that? Moriarty? A popular theory I've seen is Andrew's dad but... why?!

It March mod Lady from episode 1 of season 3......you know the one Watson put away! She coming back
