Mystery/Thriller Elementary - CBS's Modern Take on Sherlock

With Elementary and The Blacklist William Sadler has played a guy on his death bed twice in two different shows in one week.
First thing that came to my mind when I saw him in Elementary lol

Maybe it's MI6.

Some of the other Maycroft stuff I've seen had him as a high ranking Government official.

Yep traditionally Mycroft is smarter than Sherlock and works for the British government. I think the Elementary showrunners would want to avoid making him a MI5/6 boss like the BBC version. I think he is probably working with his ex-girlfriend or Moriarty.

Mycroft's restaurant being called the Diogenes is a nod to the Diogenes Gentleman's Club Mycroft co-founded and hangs out in all the time.

Mycroft had kind of an odd look on his face when Sherlock said that he was essentially the same.

Foreshadowed the mysterious phone call. I hope Mycroft isnt evil unless he's the real Moriarty. That'd be a really crazy twist.

I really hope the real Moriarty is the one we saw and came to know. It'd be lame for them to essentially retcon most of that season and the events that took place, which supposedly had a huge effect on Sherlock. What Moriarty/Irene did to him was truly ****ed up and pretty genius all around.

I dont understand where the idea that there is a "real" Moriarty comes from. What makes people think that besides the fact that this Moriarty was a woman.

I'm guessing that Mycroft was talking to Moriarty although I'd prefer the MI6 guess.

Agreed.

Yeah, I mean, wtf? Where was it ever said that she wasn't the real Moriarty?

People prefer to stick their heads in the sand when they can't accept things and that's even more so for geeks. Irene is/was Moriarty it's fact that has not been compromised in any way shape or form on the show, as there is no proof to say otherwise. Mycroft speaking to someone on the phone metal gear solid style doesn't count at all.

It could just be the way the scene was filmed that makes Mycroft look like he has sinister intentions to mislead us. After all, the main thing is that he said that they'll have to deal with the problem in a different way after tearing up the letter. But he could mean something more innocent. We don't know yet. He might not be plotting anything evil with someone at all.

I figured something must have happened this episode before even watching it, just by the fact that this thread seemed to have a lot of activity in it and was often at the top, even though I hadn't read it at all to avoid being spoiled.

I just caught up... W-T-F, Mycroft? W... T... F?

I don't think it is Moriarty. Why would she want him back in London? I'm presuming they aren't going to double twist it and say Irene is not in fact the true Moriarty however but someone else is.

Sounds like they are going a little down the BBC Sherlock route of having Sherlock's behaviour finally make the police turn against him.

So I am now caught up. Wow. Nice run of episodes they are having here. from the mysteries to what the show is really all about, the character relationships, this thing is humming along great. This last episode was great at again peeling the layers back on our protagonists.

I just really loved that unlike so many surly main characters in entertainment today that the writers are neither excusing nor celebrating Holmes' piss poor interpersonal skills. His overall demeanor DOES have an effect on the world and the people around him, and just cause he is smart and usually FACTUALLY correct, does not excuse his manner of interacting with people. Bravo show. Nice change of pace.

I do think I would like to see less, NYPD case of the week stuff and more, exotic shall we say, cases? I would love a stretch of stories about how Holmes is a commodity amongst the powerful and elite, if only to explain how Joan still can afford all her cute outfits. So looking forward to what the finale will be.

So we are back and damn... [BLACKOUT]M has a daughter, and it seems a "mentor" in her background. New threat to look out for?[/BLACKOUT]

I liked the episode, but if I am honest... Something felt off for some reason. I loved all of Holmes' dialog and the peek into M's nature but this one felt flat to me for some reason. Which for this show still means that it was more entertaining than most shows on the tube now. Am still hoping for a big arc to start soon.

I liked the reveals about M it was interesting. I fond her complete disconnect with humanity being a direct result of the way she grew up a mirror image of Holmes.

I wonder if all this has any possible connection as to what Mycroft was up to with that phone call to that mysterious someone a few weeks back... that STILL hasn't been resolved yet...

You and me both brotha/sista. :word:

I'm a Sherlock (BBC) fanboy, read all of the novels, and have seen numerous film adaptions.

But, very hesitant on this show but I'm bored and figured to start it.

I'm 3 episodes in and nothing is biting for me yet. No chemistry, really don't like any of the 'changes' to the characters, no solid stories/cases, no artistry, no lore... feels very much like any quirky detective show on the air over the last 15 years.

Does it get better? Does it tie into the lore at all? I usually give a season to judge a show but 24 episodes of 'typical crime drama' is not going to be worth it... Thanks for the suggestions.

I found the same thing - particularly when the BBC offering was well and above a better show.

However, when the actual lore slowly starts getting introduced into this show it all starts to work. The changes make sense in relation to how they present the lore and it certainly is an entertaining show.
