Mystery/Thriller Elementary - CBS's Modern Take on Sherlock

So far I haven't seen anything bad about it, but nor have I seen anything to get me excited. Just gotta wait for the premiere I suppose.

That's pretty much how feel, the preview left me none the wiser as to if it will work, but looked to have moments good enough to check out the first few eps.

The show is on CBS, it will be mediocre mindless garbage that old people will eat up. I'll stick to the BBC version because I like good shows.

CBS has plenty of smart good shows though, not sure if this will be one.

Yeah, CBS isn't really old person central like it used to be.

Still not sure about Watson being played by Liu or being a woman, but I might give this a chance. I like Miller from what little I see.

I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but in case you're NOT...

yeah right, like 5 seasons is really gonna happen, much less two... :whatever:

It just needs a decent demo number of 2.5 or more and say 12-14 million viewers to stay on that on CBS. ABC and NBC won't be luring viewers away (NBC may have something later in the season) so its pretty much safe. As long as it doesn't slide into the bottom four shows on the network it should be fine.

Next year CBS will likely cancel CSI: NY, The Good Wife and then it depends on how their new shows perform.

BBC's Sherlock... three one hour episodes a year... they take their time and get it done right...

CBS's Elementary... a full season of probably 20-something episodes... they'll f**k it up...

I actually found this trailer quite a bit more enjoyable than that behind the scenes video last week.

I'm psyched for this. I always love new takes on old characters.

We don't know if this show is going to bad. None of us do. As much as we know that this will be good. I'd at least give it a chance before dismissing it and giving a bad opinion for it without even watching it.

Lee Miller looks like a good Holmes. Sill not sold on Liu as Watson, but we'll see.

So I guess its gonna be inevitable that they're gonna at least have some form of romantic tension between Holmes and Watson.

It's funny how I see the addiction angle as more "House" than Sherlock even though "House" was inspired by "Sherlock Holmes"

The beginning of the trailer they use that shaky font thing does remind me of "Sherlock"

The sniffing of the shirt and mannerisms made me think Jonny could be a 12 Doctor.

Ugh. Looks terrible. I like Johnny Lee Miller, but it's obvious that CBS saw BBC's "Sherlock," couldn't get the rights (not that it matters as we still would've ended here, anyway) and instead made "Sherlock Holmes" via the CBS assembly line. Literally the simple idea of turning Watson into a woman (Lucy Liu at that!) and changing the setting to New York is so contrived and awful it sounds like a parody of how bad American television/films are. Like this is something I'd expect to be fake-playing in the background of a Leslie Nielson movie or "Sarah Marshall's new show" in the next Russell Brand movie.

As for depiction, it seems like JLM was told to copy Robert Downey Jr.'s version of the character except make him more British. Also, Sherlock never solved only murders. But who am I kidding? This thing will be a huge hit and run for years.

And they already set up Sherlock's father. If this last long enough we'll get a episode with his father(played by some big name british actor)

Saw the trailer.

This Sherlock definitely comes off as less of an ass than the BBC one.

Lol, Idk why but there were several instances where Sherlock reminded me of BBC version of Moriarty.

BBC Sherlock would delight in finding that dead body

BBC Sherlock- I love it when I'm right.

Watched the trailer, I'm still not sure about this, some of it looks ok and some of it looks crappy.

Though if Holmes begins a romance with Watson or if there is romantic interest or tension, I'll pretty much be against it. Her being a female could add to the tension or play up the idea that's been established is that Holmes has no interest in relationships and women.

Except the first thing we see of him in the trailer is a Lisbeth-knock off girl getting dressed and leaving is apartment. She could be a client, but CBS is just going to make this a dead body procedural, so it's probably just their way of establishing he's straight. But that's so against the character.

Meh, looks neither fantastic nor mediocre.

Not looking forward to it, especially after the way the BBC did it and the films, which I think are brilliant too. Now, we have a third version of sherlock? And one that actually does not look that good? Well, wait and see I suppose.

Also, why change Watson to a woman? I'll admit to being a bit miffed by that.

I noticed that, but it could be about context. Maybe they just did it for the sake of sex appeal. I hope not though. I'm waiting to see what it's about in context.
