When it comes to the music of the Batman movies, nothing can truly top Danny Elfman's in the first two movies. But which of Elfman's musical scores do you think was better; the one from Batman or the one from Batman Returns?

Batman Returns, love Elfman's Batman/Catwoman theme throughout some of the tracks, best track is probably Finale from Batman Returns. Though I love Batman just as much, even have the Prince Soundtrack which is AWESOME.

Batman has such a big theatrical feel to, which I love. The Batman Returns score was great too.

Batman, Returns was just modified version of it.
No way, that was the whole point for Elfman, that he didn't want to just repeat the score from the first one. He kept the basic Batman theme and then went crazy with variations on it, as well as adding unique new themes for The Penguin, Catwoman, etc. I remember from the extra's on the DVD, he says there's about 20 minutes more score than in Batman, adding to 95 minutes total, which is about double the usual length of a movie score.

The Batman score is great, but Elfman really outdid himself on Returns, which is the much superior score...

I am biased cause Descent into Mystery and the Finale from BATMAN are my favorite pieces from any Batman movie score. So it gets my vote but to be truthful the Batman Returns score was much richer and better developed than the one for the original. It is the technical best, just not my favorite.

I love both, but B89 is still the 'even better' one.

B89 had a nice Gothy taste to it which really stands out as for BR it had a Christmas feel to it which i also liked but over all it goes to B89

'Returns' sounded very much the Edwards Scissorhands score at some points which Elfman done also obviously which is why prefer 'Batman'.

Don't get me wrong i love the score to Scissorhands but it's not the style of Batman imo.

Batman to the rescue
Descent into Mystery
Attack of the Batwing
Main title

My faves but the whole album is brilliance

What did you guys think of Danny Elfman's scores for Batman and Batman Returns? I thought they were really well done and set the tone for both films. And who can forget Danny's classic Batman theme.

I have nothing else to add to this conversation that El and Tyler have not already stated.

Just as B89's soundtrack was a Batman one, Returns soundtrack was an Elfman one.

The were some pieces (although great) probably didn't suit the gravity of the film - but they are few and far between.

Selina transforms is an amazing piece of work - the two violins weaving in and out of each other like a cat rubbing around someones legs or two personalities fighting with each other to be heard.

btw - have yu signed the petition yet?:whatever:

Returns is my favorite Batman score to date. Elfman has a real knack for capturing both the action and emotion of what is happening on screen and this score is perfect proof. One of my favorite Elfman scores, I never get tired of it.

They both suck.

Elfman's music sounded like an adventure film.Totally wrong for Batman.
But then, so was everything else about Tim Burton's movies.:whatever:

Gah. Elfman! Burton! Thinking Batman as an adventure film! What are they thinking!!! What does Batman ever have to do with adventures for God's sake!!! "Batman" and "adventures" can't be on the same line, people!!! When is the world going to get this!!! Clueless people make me so upset!!! I'm being upset right now in fact. At them or at your post, I can't say! I'm clueless myself in rage right now! :hehe:

I love both but I'll always have a soft spot for the first one.

descent into darkness
waltz to the death
kicks major ass

89...Returns had way too much choral 'chanting'...That "AAHHAAA, aaahhAAAA" in the background that creeped me out and made it feel like spirits were going to spring out from my TV screen...Cinematography went PERFECTLY with the melodies, however...
