Seth MacFarlane to Remake The Flintstones!

I really hope this is American Dad quality, and not Family Guy quality.

For me this is horrible news.I would be cool if it was someone like Genndy Tartakovsky or Craig McCracken, but Seth Mcfarlane?bleh

I'm not crying about this, MacFarlane is a fan of the old series, so I assume he'll treat it as such.

Never trust the ''fan" mentality. That always works 50/50 and not 80/20 like most people think.

There's just a strong as chance if not more so that a fan will **** up something from trying to hard to make it stand to the classic.

All he needs now is to create yet another show to replace the Simpsons so that Fox can have their weekly "Seth McFarlane O-Rama Sundays."

Fox just announced the deal at its upfront this afternoon. Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said production on the animated series will begin in Fall 2011 for a 2013 premiere on the Fox schedule. In a cross-studio collaboration, The Flintstones will be produced jointly by 20th Century Fox Television and Warner Bros Television. Dan Palladino (Gilmore Girls) and Kara Vallow (Family Guy) will serve as executive producers with Seth MacFarlane who says the very first cartoon character he drew at age 2 was Fred Flintstone. “So it’s appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat stupid guy with a wife who’s too good for him.” Added Reilly: “The Flintstones are among the funniest and most beloved characters in television history, and we can’t wait to introduce them to a whole new generation on Fox,” said Reilly. “FOX has long been home to iconic families like the Simpsons and the Griffins, so I have no doubt that the Flintstones and the Rubbles are going to fit right in on our air.” He hinted that the deal for the show closed just hours before the presentation today -- just like I told you. In a video shown at the upfronts, MacFarlane shed some light on his plans for the remake: The characters will look the same but he'll introduce new technology, like "What is the animal version of an iPad?”

I'm curious to see how much creative freedom they give MacFarlane with the franchise. And how people will react when he brings his politics into it.

Presumably he will do somethings different, why else revive the series?

Ugh. So which character will be his political mouth-piece this time?

If i hate on Seth Macfarlane, can i be one of the cool kids?

Don't understand all the hate. Sure some gags get tiring, but can't a show just be a ridiculous comedy without a point or message?? The other extreme is boring ass Simpsons or the preachy crap south park's been spewing for years.

Now as for him redoing Flinstones? dunno... so much rests on the voice acting in that, fake-Fred voices always annoy the hell outta me. and agreed he needs to keep this cleaner, let the kids watch

I think this will mean a guaranteed downgrade in quality for each existing MacFarlane show. Family Guy will go from "meh" to "bad," American Dad will go from "good" to "meh," and the Cleveland Show will go from "bad" to "unwatchable."

Seth MacFarlane doesn't actually do much for American Dad besides voicing Stan and Roger. Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman run AD, this should have no effect on it's quality. Maybe the same for Cleveland Show, dunno who is in charge there.

The Cleveland Show was never good, so it really can't decline.

Family Guy is a sad shadow of its former self. American Dad's quality has been pretty consistent.

I wonder if this show will have the so-called "maturity" of Family Guy? Will they go out of their way to be offensive and disturbing like a typical modern animated sitcom?

Ever see the Flintstones on the Rocks? You can probably see a few clips on youtube. It was an animated Flintstones movie with a more "mature" approach.

I just hope they use a different animation studio then the one they use for Family Guy/American Dad/Cleveland Show.

I hope they use a different animation studio too,and I doubt that it will be that raunchy. The Flintstone still have kid-freindly merchandising(cereal, vitamins).I don't think they wanna risk those.

This is gonna be a disaster.

MacFarlane's own shows are a mess. The wrtiting FG AD, and The Cleveland Show have been mediocre for years now. He can barely get the toilet humor and side gags to work on his current shows what makes FOX think he can work with more complex humor like that utilized on The Flinstones.

Family Guy is just plotless lately. Every episode is written so lazily it's not funny.
The Cleveland show- just a horrid mess. Cleveland Brown is the whitest Black Man in America. His show is bland and the characters just FG rip-offs. Seriously, TCS could be friggin hilarious if the writers understood Black culture and made fun of it, but they choose to re-has Family Guy scripts instead of making the show stand out.
American Dad is so busy trying to be dark that no one can relate to the humor. The whole show comes off as mean-spirited and nasty.

All these approaches to comedy just don't fit The Flinstones.

How about FOX take a risk on something new instead of re-hashing old concepts.

As with FG and TCS, he'll cast a hot chick to voice either Wilma or Betty.

You haven't seen the trailers for Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite: The Animated Series then, have you? :o

Fred was unbearable in that movie. I mean Fred in old series acted like a jerk sometimes, but he was still funny and lovable.

True, but aren't most of MacFarlane's main characters that way?

Peter works because he's a dumb and ignorant idiot, who gets himself into crazy situations, Fred in Flintstones on the Rocks is a grumpy a-hole. As for Stan and Cleavland, I don't watch those shows that much.
