Elon Musk Buys X (formerly Twitter): Just Use Bluesky, Threads, or Mastodon Instead

Its interesting seeing the reactions from this purchase and the doom and gloom that might occur. It will most likely be the same business as usual except more oversight on suspensions and censorship and hopefully more clear guidelines on what is allowed or not allowed.

Everything goes to the wayside when there is enough money involved for some people. Standing on principal doesn't make you rich.

EU warns Elon Musk that Twitter must play by its tough new rules

The Digital Services Act, which will come into force in a few months' time once it has completed its legislative process, updates the EU's 20-year-old e-commerce directive, which was born when tech giants like Facebook (Meta) and Amazon were still in their infancy. The aim is to put an end to lawlessness and abuse on the internet, while better defending users' rights.

He's not going to have it all his way, at least in Europe.

Just to test the "free speech" when the purchase is completed, people should try to get #ElonMuskSucks trending and see how many are not banned.

I am quite sure Musk wont give a **** if somebody writes that he sucks.

I am rather pleased about the developments on this subject. Twitter is such a dumpster-fire, that I have enjoyed seeing people having meltdowns about this.

Yeah. The backlash/meltdowns have been hilarious

The dude almost deleted his twitter account when he stole art without giving credit, and people called him out on it...if it trends he definitly would be upset.

Reading some of the details of the financing is hilarious.

If his mid life crisis brings down Twitter and Tesla, I am going to laugh.
Tesla investors are nervous as Twitter will be a huge distraction for him.

I do think there needs to be an early test of his free speech credentials, but “sucks” is way too tame and of course he’s not going to care about that, even I wouldn’t. Needs to be something that would bother him so he can prove why all these other people he wants to stay on/return to the platform deserve to.

The "I'm deleting/quitting Twitter" is the new "I'm moving to Canada" argument and the meltdowns have been fun to watch.

“Exists”is a bit of an exaggeration.

I mean, Twitter as it is has already done a lot of amplifying of transphobia. Now, imagine that a man whose ex is currently with a trans woman, who has shown to be a petty little tyrant, and transphobic, will do to the discourse. Twitter has tried to be inclusive to an extent, but that is all gone.

Yes, all of this from people who generally are always so much into "the science" and electric cars. Now they hate on Musk :D.

Please, elaborate on what you mean by "the science".

And using "Elon Musk makes electric cars, you must not actually car about climate change" as an argument is now as dead as Elvis.

I'm confused. Has Twitter tried to be inclusive, or has it, as you said, amplified transphobia?

Sure, if that was news and not just an Opinion commentary piece. Feels more like folks just don't want him to buy Twitter.

Also, I’m gonna say that a guy who said “we will coup who ever we want” in regards to America’s role in attempting to overthrow a South American government, does not actually care about “free speech.”

I’ll say, they’re right. Social media being in the hands of billionaires is, in fact, bad!

I would agree, yet it's no more wrong than media organizations being in the hands of billionaires, like Bezos owning The Washington Post, or even Zuckerburg owning Facebook and Instagram, but people seem to have accepted that this is where we are right now.
