Also, it's funny because Wizard had Spidey 3 in the 50 Best Comic Movies of All Time.
Even Yahoo has it at a B from both critics and user reviews. This poll is just garbage. Whether you liked or hated the movie, if you think it should be in the "Worst of ALL Time" list you haven't seen enough. I work at a video store, I've seen **** movies.
Ok, not defending this list since it is a nerd list(Who's even heard of Equillibrium besides geeks?)but I feel the need to disect here:
1: How many comic book movies are there now exactly? Cause I remember a top fifty list Wizard published not too long ago that not only included Spidey 3 but also
X-Men 3: The Last Stand, Daredevil, Batman Forever, Swamp Thing, the Adam West Batman movie, both Fantastic Four movies, etc. Up until the last decade or so, with the exception of animated specials and a few guilty pleasures(*sigh*Adam West IS Batman), there weren't too many comic-based movies that were good(Chris Reeves and Michael Keaton films aside. Rocketeer too).
2. Looking at Yahoo or Rotten Tomatoes reviews aren't proof at how well audiences liked it due to the fact that it includes reviews done mostly within the first weekend of the film's release. People were writing while in the moment. I'm not saying this as the hater of the film: thought the effects were good, JK Simmons was awesome as usual and the fight between symbiote spidey and Sandman showed to me what the whole Emo Petey montage should have shown: that this new "suit" ****s with a person physically, mentally, and emotionally. But read some of the positive reviews and a lot of them seem to be back-handed compliments("An everything-plus-the-kitchen-sink production that thrives on its boundless energy and the sheer audacity of its vision" is a compliment?)
It's a franchise film, a franchise people, both critics and filmgoer alike, were looking forward to seeing move forward. The first movie was good. The 2nd, in some ways, was even better. So we were hoping for the best in a 3rd film. Not sure if there's a term to describe the phenom(if not, someone copyright the term
Cinema Denial for me) but it happens often enough. Don't believe me? After you check Spidey 3, go to yahoo movies or Rotten Tomatoes and check the reviews for the
Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Jeez, don't want to copy South Park, but I feel like Butters in my Cinema Denial: "Gee fellas, it wasn't
that bad. I kinda liked it"
If you wanna get an honest review, grab someone who has just watched Spider-Man 3 for the first time, someone who may not have seen the 1st movies or isn't too familiar with spidey outside of the fact that he's a comic book hero. The response will probably
* go something like this"
"Meh. It wasn't that bad. Wish he would've done more fighting and less crying though."
TEDDY!
* At least that's what happened in my experiment. Results may vary.
