Episode 13 - "The Fix" - Discussion Thread 1/29/07

I watched the episode with a friend last night, and we couldn't help but think the whole Hiro storyline is getting a little silly. All this nonsense about him losing his power and needing a sword, it's just all a horribly contrived way of getting him the sword his future self had.

I've enjoyed the episodes on the whole so far, but the comeback has been a little slow. I'm really hoping it picks up a touch. By the end of this episode, I felt as though it had really only just started to get going.

I don't understand why Hiro lost his powers in the first place

I'm convinced he's just lost faith in himself and subconciously blocked out his powers.

Just like in Spider-Man 2.

When he gets the sword, he'll gain the confidence he needs to use his powers again, not because of the sword, but because of his own faith in himself.

Doubt in oneself can be a very limiting thing.

Which is why, I think, he'll be forced to use his powers without his sword and he'll realize he had it in him all along. Kind of like Harry in Prisoner of Azkaban, he doesn't know he can produce the patronus that saves Sirius until he's forced into trying.

I would agree with this. I think it's because he tried so hard to safe Charlie but even with his powers he failed...eventually with the help of the sword he will once again gain the confidence he needs.

Yeah, that's pretty safe to assume.

What I think will happen on the day of the explosion is that Nate is gonna fly Peter a safe distance away from the city and get himself killed in the process.

Except after giving it more thought it really doesn't make sense. Since HRG could have just had the Haitian mind wipe her after the "accident" leaving him free to adopt Claire without fear of her discovering the truth. Even if he hadn't had the Haitian at the time he could have sent at any time thereafter to do the deed. Erase the fact she had even had a daughter.

Unless he did and the Haitian refused to do so, just as he did with Claire, for his own reasons.

He wouldn't need to wipe MommyTorch if he convinced her she bbq-ed her own daughter. It would be an effective way to get her to work for him, because he can "help" her with that nasty, baby-killing power of hers.

And you know if they cut out these last two episodes and cut right to the action you would all be complaining so give up and go watch another show
I enjoy Nikki/DL/Micah story as long as they dont do too much of it like they did in this last episode
I cant wait to see the shrink talk to Jessica
I dont think Linderman or Nate is Claire's father
I'll be interested to see who it actually is on Monday

Nope I actually wouldn't have. I'd have gone "YES FINALLY SOMETHING HAPPENING!"

Now I'm seeing **** on that picture. Maybe it's Claire's mom?

I actually agree - Looking at it now, it sorta has a girlish figure.

HP references

I haven't read through all these so this might have already been stated...I think that HRG told Claire's mother that Claire was dead and vice versa.

I think he really believes the mom is dead. Remember when the Haitian guy was talking to Claire (the second time). He said that Mr.Bennett had told him several years before that Claire's mother had died & that he had no reason to lie. It seems, though, that he was able to make the authorities think that the woman's child had also died in the fire, hence the newspaper story.

In the painting it looks like there are 2 people standing in front of the person on fire/going nuclear

I noticed that too.....It kind of looks like that panel in the online comic when Ted busts out of the concrete.

Hmmm...

I think Hiro's storyline makes sense given Hiro's dogmatic sense of comic book heroism... it's all confidence based. I think to really enjoy the show you have to realize that not all the characters are right, and just because someone says something doesn't mean it is so, only that it's what they think.

On the Jessica storyline... I keep thinking that eventually it will come full circle and everything will link up awesomely. I think Jessica may jump ship to another body (perhaps only possible if Nikki dies), perhaps that's the motivation DL and Micah need to do more than just survive.

As much as some may dislike it, and while DL's desperation fell a little flat in this ep, I think there's something to be said for seeing a normal family just try to survive in the adversity created by their abilities. What if DL is a hero because he makes a better life for his son? Is he not as heroic, as self-sacrificing as the guy who throws a nuclear bomb into the atmosphere? Moreso?

exactly, that's the whole point of the show, being a hero is much more than blowing green lasers out of your pimples and fighting villians with total disregard to public and private property, it's also in the smaller, everyday feats and how we deal with them (Matt doing his best to save his marriage, DL facing hard times, etc)

but of course, the Ritalin Nation needs actionactionactionwhohastimeforcharacterdevelopmentwhenwecouldhavesomuchsenselessaction?

Take one of these, you'll feel better.

I'm actually very well-adjusted. Hey man, just because I'm not in love with every episode doesn't mean I don't like the show. I just stated my opinion. It's still a fun show and I enjoy speculating about it.

Wow ya know I never noticed that before, and we may just be imagining it. But the one on the right, seems to have hair being blow up and almost looks like he's in a suit - Nathan? And the left looks a bit femenine with long hair - Simone. Again, we all might be imagining it, but that's pretty cool.
