Synopsis:

OSCAR-NOMINATED ACTRESS LAURIE METCALF GUEST STARS – When Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) father dies, his estranged mother, Mary (guest star Laurie Metcalf), reappears trying to reconnect and to explain why she abandoned him all those years ago. Winn is too embittered from his rough childhood to forgive her but when a copycat Toyman attacks, the two must work together to stop him. Mon-El (Chris Wood) tells Kara (Melissa Benoist) something important about the Worldkillers, and Alex (Chyler Leigh) becomes suspicious of Myr’nn’s (guest star Carl Lumbly) recent behavior. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Caitlin Parrish & Derek Simon (#314). Original airdate 4/16/2018.

Looks like they needed some character-centric filler for the A-plot to give Kara, Winn, Alex, etc. something to do while hopefully Lena and Sam are busy navigating this newly discovered Reign situation in the B-plot.

I like the look of the ep, I was expecting it to be a bit more comical in tone but it kinda looks like it has a bit of a horror movie vibe.

Not so sure it's the kind of episode/promo they want to come back from a huge hiatus on, though, as it looks like a filler ep that has nothing to do with the main plot.

Hopefully they put together a general "back 9" trailer in the next couple weeks to get people hyped for its return.

The concern I have about this episode is that it will feel out of the place with the season's storyline with the Worldkillers.

A filler episode is not a good way to come back from a hiatus.

Well at SDCC, they DID predict a karaoke scene this season, so I can't say I'm surprised, lol.

It sounds like this episode is not even gonna follow up on the big cliffhanger of the hiatus (Lena finds out about Sam/Reign), which is gonna annoy me if true, lol.

I'm actually more excited for this than the overall worldkillers plot. Not that the worldkillers plot is bad. It's enjoyable, but I really loved the Toyman episode in Season 1 and what it did for Winn's character so I'm really looking forward to this follow up. This version of Toyman is one of my favorite takes on the character. I'm a bit sad that Henry Czerny will probably not be making an appearance in this episode, but at least his presence will be felt (I'm still hoping he makes an appearance though).

That will be dumb if that is the case. Maybe they think everyone has forgotten about that because it's been off the air so long.

But I can see that it could easily just deal with that in the background and Lena would conveniently neglect to tell everyone else for storytelling purposes so that it's drawn out even longer.

I think my favorite parts of Supergirl/The Flash are the casual moments where they just hang out and have fun.

J'onns father storyline is probably one of the least favorite storylines of the season.

Wait....did they just say that Saturn Girl doesn't have telepathy? They just went and changed it to telekinesis? Telepathy is a big part of the character, if anything give her both.

Kara....um...I know people in your city arent the smartest but changing into Supergirl while Kara just ups and disappears as you appear...is pretty noticeable in that small of a crowd.

Yeah could care less about humanizing the Martian dad. They couldn't give J'onn a better storyline?

Kara/Melissa looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good with this hair color, so happy she dyed it.

Some Kara/Mon-El, and of course Brainy is Mon's bff because the Legion would be nothing without him.

....The DEO just allows random people to waltz around in their HQ? I'm so thankful for Laurie's daughter for being a fan of the show and thus getting her on the show to be a cool mom. She is already so great in this role.

I'm sorry but Jeremy Jordan is a wonderful singer/performer but a terrible dramatic actor, imo. Felt this way in his "spotlight" ep in S1, too. I'm glad he doesn't get more of this kind of stuff on the show on a regular basis.

The flying monkeys were fun though I would've done less of them so you can put more umph into the scene, though everyone didn't need a "moment". Even though Winns mom is one tough cookie.

I am here for this Winn/James bonding. Still waiting for that episode that deals with James' origin story of teaming up and becoming Supermans best friend.

Hey if Winn can be better then DEO agents when it comes to hacking....I dont see why James cant be as good as a DEO agent in terms of fighting lol. Though who knows what training they go through.

Yeah, James having action scenes in slow mo were a little over the top. Then again, Winn’s mom showed up DEO agents as well, so maybe the DEO aren’t all that well trained.
