I'd say New Order, but DM has a great track record of covering different styles within their style

another good way to make that kind of evaulation would be to listen to their whole discography in chronological order
Absolutely it is New Order (I have been listening to them since the mid-80s and Power Corruption and Lies has seemed to always be one of the discs in my CD player - well, when I still listened to CDs and not music digitily).

A New Order vs Depeche Mode poll would be far more appropriate as Erasure is not in the league with those two bands.

Gahan came back form the dead. Vince Clake was a member of Depeche Mode at one point before forming Eurasure.

Depeche mode actually produced some good stuff in later years. Overall though neither were great.

Teardrop Explodes owned them both as did New Order.

I like both. :cofused:

Erasure's ABBA covers are great.

But Depeche Mode has also done many great songs, such as Personal Jesus.

I can't vote.

I wanted to post a list of all the possible groups that would fit in this category (to set it up for a decent poll) Wikipedia has more than 200 listings:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Electronic_music_groups

So folks, take a look at their list and let's try to come up with the top 25 groups for a poll.

It's a very broad catorgary using wiki I don't think the Beloved for instance would feel they had much in common with erasure, EMF were more a guitar band etc. It's all wrong.

Depeche Mode is far superior.

No. Jesus says, "No Guitars = Bad Music". Don't contradict Jesus.

Sorry but I have to ask since I have another friend like this

what is up with what I deem absolute guitar obsession? Are you another one of those people who listen to almost nothing but rock music?

Well, that is just a category that they call "electronic", so it is kind of hard to use that list.

Also, if we are talking electronic music in general....the band UNDERWORLD is the greatest electronic band ever, followed by ORBITAL, and NEW ORDER (however, NEW ORDER are the godfathers for which there would be none other if it wasn't for NEW ORDER). Still, no other electronic album by a band comes close to UNDERWORLD'S "dubnobasswithmyheadman"

As a side note, I would have to say that UNDERWORLD's "Born Slippy.NUXX" is to 90s electronic dance music what NEW ORDER's "Blue Monday" was to 80s electronic dance music - ie, the song of the decade

Depeche Mode. New Order kick both their ass for Blue Monday alone.

Depeche for the win.

New Order's Blue Monday was good, but Orgy made it better.

tough one...but Depeche Mode takes the cake...

I like them both, but one time I saw Erasure perform "Always" acoustically, and was reminded how purely talented Andy Bell is as a vocalist.

My vote is decided by the straighter gay band....'Mode baby!:)

It's kind of unfair when you think about it.
Erasure was far more effete sure, but it was different as well.
But by playing depeche mode you could get into girl's pants
and by playing Erasure, well, you where probably already wearing them to begin with.

How can you even compare the two bands or even put Erasure in the same catagory as Depeche Mode?

U2 and Depeche Mode are the two greatest things that came out of the 80's.

I'm proud to admit that I have best of CD's of both Depeche Mode and Erasure.

pick bands who are closer in stature next time.
depeche mode win this one easily.

you could have done the eurythmics vs erasure and the eurythmics would have won. try new order vs the happy mondays or stone roses or something.
