Evanescence sucks really hard.
Evanescence suck.
I get tired of all of the Ev-bashing that goes on around here. You can't deny that they're talented. No one belts like Amy, and the instrumentalists are equally amazing. Bashing cheesy, out of tune music, or music that isn't really music (coughrapcough), I can understand, but you can't deny the effort and talent of these people. I mean, come on, they used Mozart as an inspiration.
And before anyone dares label me emo, know this: I'm a huge fan of, and am persuing a career in, musical theatre. That's right. Show tunes. Take that razor you'd offer me and shove it up your ass.
I am tired and mean no offense to anyone who would not say what I suggested above.
Say you like Black Sabbath and I'll give two thumbs up.

Heck yeah, I love Sabbath. I've been asking for their boxked set every Christmas and I've never gotten it.![]()
You should grab the greatest hits CD, it's gold.
Wait, Evanescence is good because they used Mozart as an inspiration?
What?![]()
Evanescence makes me want to punch disabled people in the face...

i'll never understand the appeal of evanescence. sure, the chick's got some great pipes, but the music is lifeless, and lyrics are vapid. i mean, really it's basically pre-packaged pop music marketed to trailer park punk/goth kids.
same thing goes with bands like 3 day's grace, seether, blue october, stone sour...the list goes on.

I personally believe that as far as music goes, the current generation is culturally bankrupt. The music of today has no message, no real artistic value to speak of. There are some exceptions (The White Stripes, The Killers), but overall, we live in a horrible time as far as popular music goes.
by pipes, you mean boobs right?
that depends on where you're looking. if you're talking about the radio, you're 100% on the money. you look at radio 30 or 40 years ago, and they're playing the beatles, the stones, led zepplin, etc...today's a different story. today we get britney spears and akon. awesome.
but if you're refering to music in general, i'd disagree. if you're looking for artistic value in your pop music, check out hot chip, the knife, imogen heap, cat power, the elected, rilo kiley (and jenny lewis), postal service, the raconteurs (which you're probably already familiar with if you dig the stripes), air, ect. and that's just "pop" music.
i think the biggest problem with music today is technology. but at the same time, it's one of it's best tools.
with today's studios and audio editting software, anyone can make anyone a pop star. in a world where that's possible, pop stars are stars not because of their talent, but because of their looks. that's killing the music industry. 30 years ago, britney spears would never have made it out of the trailer park.
now that said, technology is really helping a lot of great artists and bands to get some recognition. itunes, myspace and other social networking websites are a GREAT way to hear new music and expose new talent. i'm all for that. also, technology has added to the creative side of music making. there are a lot of musicians that use non traditional instruments to make their music. take a duo like psapp. they make incrediblely lush and beautiful music, and they make it all with children's toys and gadgets they've put together by taking apart keyboards and calculators and putting them back together again. or a band called mutemath, who use a sort of touch screen guitar thing made from an old atari. that's pretty cool ****.
not to mention recording software like garageband (which comes with any apple computer), is making it WAY easier for bands and artists to record and mix without spending a fortune on equipment.
i could go on and on, but that in a nutshell is my take on music these days.
Evanesence sucks ass, go pick up some good music like The Flaming Lips, The Shins or Sufjan Stevens.
