The Dark Knight Extras Casting!

There's two TDK postings on that page... The bottom one listed under "Joan Philo Casting" is obviously TDK since it mentions the April filming. Also, I wonder why they need a stand-in for Asian Male (20's-60's) dark hair and/or clean shaven, 5'5" to 6'3" ...? Anyone think there might be an Asian main character (from the comics) appearing in the next film?

I think I'll try going for the TDK extra gig again (it's not everyday there's a chance to be in batman film). Last time, they called me for Stranger Than Fiction instead of BB :cmad:. Anyone else going?
I live in Chicago...I can be your insider.

In February, we received a letter from WB that they were interested in using our home for a "Major Motion Picture" - couldn't tell us the name of the movie though. The location scout came and took dozens of photos - along with about 60 other homes. We were told that if we made it to the final round - about six homes - "key people" would visit our humble abode in person.

Late February, Christopher Nolan and his crew of about 6-8 flew in from London and visited our home in person. While we made it to the last round, unfortunately we were not ultimately selected. (we live in Wrigleyville and they selected a home in the Uptown neighborhood)

As a consolation prize, we can be extras in the movie and/or visit the set during filming.

So...I'm your insider. What do you want to know?
Alright - posting #2.

What was Christopher Nolan like? Personally, not very friendly. His crew was awesome, outgoing and very complimentary. I know that Christopher had a job to do and came into the house, snooped around, took some measurements and went on his merry way. Never introduced himself, even after I shook his hand and introduced myself. Oh well.

Our house is one block north of Wrigley Field. I always questioned the use of our home for filming only because of the conflicts with home games. That being said, other homes on our street have been used for television shows, no major motion pictures to my understanding. I believe our house was being looked at for the detective's home, although everyone was very tight lipped and I only found that out from a snoopy neighbor. What we were told is that our house was too nice for what they needed - Uptown, which is a bit more industrial and edgy, would have been more appropriate.

Filming begins June 9th in Chicago. While they have 13 weeks books for filming, the large majority of the filming will be done in June. (this was also told to us when they were looking at our home).

I will definately have more scoop early June. We will get to potentially "choose" a scene to visit - preferably something with lots of action as I have young kids. The extra piece of it is a bit up in the air for us - my seven year old is dying to be an extra but there is a lot of wait time involved so I have to prep her for it. Also, will know more information in June. If anyone has preference of scenes, let me know.

I will write a "trip report" and post pictures of the action when it happens.

Sorry I don't have more information right now, but I'll post more when I get it. I found this thread when I did a search on the extra casting - I drove by the long line for it on Saturday and noticed that the casting door said "Rory's First Kiss" and they weren't using any references to Batman or The Dark Knight.

P.S. I'm a she, not a he! :)

Thanks suzynuprin and drakeboy2007 for sharing this and welcome to the hype!
A buddy of mine said that he had to pretend to be witness to a car exploding.
Hmm...i wonder what car that might be?:D

Carol Townsend who's been a background performer in Prison Break has landed her self similar work in TDK according to her fansite.

Rory's First Kiss

Holy misdirection, Batman! Carol has been signed-up to work background on the upcoming film, Rory's First Kiss. June 15-17, it is expected to be a night (er, knight?) shoot, requiring formal attire, and 12+ hour days. Perhaps an extravagant charity ball or political dinner party that gets crashed by a pasty-faced maniacal super-villain? Maybe a swanky cocktail reception for a millionaire playboy/vigilante? Who can say? Stay tuned to this same web page, for the next exciting post!

suzynuprin, could we get a pic of your home. I'm thinking it looks like Dent's home from TLH.

Thanks for your reply suzynuprin . Bummer he was like that but I guess he's got plenty on his mind eh.

I have also been cast as an extra in the chicago fliming but for a different date. The scene I am involved in takes place June 27th and is an early afternoon to late night/early morning shoot somewhere in downtown. They would not yet disclose the location or any specifics but will be calling me with those details about 2 weeks before the shoot occurs. Im pretty excited as to what the scene will be.

This extra casting stuff has been buggin the crap out of me. I keep hearing about people getting call backs, but yet my phone remains silent : (. Maybe someday I'll get a call...

That's weird. Both times they called me* they kind of emphasized giving out their hotline number for more extras. I say be a little more patient. They may still call.

*They called me for a formal wear scene & then for a police/national guard scene taking place a couple of days earlier. But the next day they dropped me from the latter due to continuity reasons (can't be in 2 different scenes).

Wow, you're lucky. Getting called 3 times before I even get 1 call, lol. They supposedly need a ton of people. I know that she was probably overexaggerating, but my friend asked one of the workers at the casting call, and she told him that they needed 10,000 people. I highly doubt that, but it gives me hope :D

Wow... must be a really big scene for them to need so many extras.Though i too doubt it will be as much as 10,000.

Star in My Own Mind: or My Bat Fetish

So for fun, fame and to mark it off in my 101 Things to Do Before You Die book I am going to be an extra in a movie.
Illinois has been working it's collective behind to bring more movies to the state. Honestly it burns my ass that they set movies in Chicago and then film them in Canada. Sorry, Toronto is not half as cool as the city of Chicago. So about a bazillion movies are being filmed here this summer and I get to be in one.

Yeah it will be 12 hours of sitting around and waiting to shoot may be 20 minutes, I have no lines, and the pay is minimum but the thought of being on a movie set and becoming a celebrity librarian is enough to perk me up until the end of the school year. As long as they don't make me a homeless person I'll happily work.

So the summer of 2008 you may see my anonymous mug in "Rory's First Kiss" har har.

Anyone else out there get "The Call"? Still waiting on mine as well...

^Is it the same phone number they had for the late April shoot?

Thanks - have an appointment so they can see me in person, we'll see what happens.

Milkman,

Did they volunteer any additional information, such as when they will be notifying applicants for extras, etc. My Batphone has been silent.

Thanks

Compass-
Actually, they didn't say a word about scheduling - they wanted to see me first.

Milkman,

Thanks for the update. Good luck on the call! I was one of the couple of hundred people who showed up on 5/4, so by having an individual call you have a great opportunity.

Actually it was 2 calls, and the 2nd call was a mistake (I was mistakenly put in 2 groups of people instead of 1). I do feel very lucky, but hang in there. Your call will come.

When I went to the casting call on 5/4, Joan said she hadn't even begun calling people from the previous casting call placed 3/31.

dammit I was in Town then, I should have shown up. I didn't realise there was a casting call then. The odds of me being called seem slim anyway even if I followed through with it

Any other success stories out there for people who have been called in as extras for the Chicago shoot coming up this summer? (I wish I had one of those stories...)

So disappointed that the casting flew right by me! It didn't even occur to me until today that it would be cool to be an extra, but it looks like it's too late.

The last time Batman filmed here I also missed the casting calls, but one day when they were filming a big scene downtown involving a helicopter (which would be used for the film as the storming of Arkham Asylum) I snuck onto the set and I managed to find a place right by the director's chair and I sat there all afternoon. It was awesome and I could even see the scenes as being shot from the helicopter through the monitor that the director was using. I have no idea why no one asked me who I was and what I was doing there, but it was a great experience and I'm happy it happened.
