So you want to be in movies? Now might be the time.
"It's an amazing time here right now," Joan Philo, a local casting director, told Armour & Co. "I need tons of people and I will go to the ends of the earth to find them."
This is why you've seen people hanging outside Wrigley Field for the Cubs-White Sox series this weekend -- the same people who were working the crowd before and after the Bulls' Game 6 loss on Thursday at the United Center. Philo, who has cast extras in Chicago for several movies (including "The Fugitive," "High Fidelity" and "Stranger Than Fiction"), has them passing out fliers looking for hundreds of extras for Universal Studios' "The Express." It's not a joke or a scam -- they need hundreds of people to fill Lane Tech's football stadium for the film, about the first black Heisman Trophy winne
And that's not all. Philo's also looking for extras for "The Dark Knight," the reported title of the next "Batman" project, with a bulk of the shooting scheduled for June, July and August. (For information call 312-924-1805.)
Rich Moskal, head of the Chicago Film Office, said this is unprecedented, with so many projects -- Angelina Jolie's "Wanted" is also shooting here right now -- in town at the same time.
"Obviously, we have multiple productions going on simultaneously," Moskal told Armour & Co. "Some are calling for very big crowd scenes and background actors are a critical part of making it work."
