Failed Films With Potential

Speaking of failed potential, I will deviate here and into the television realm and say Star Trek: Voyager. Yes, it lasted seven seasons, but it had the best premise out of any of the spinoff shows and it was the worst.

Um... Enterprise much?

Actually for a failed TV show, Enterprise gets my vote. I think it could've worked if it wasn't Star Trek.

They sort of tried too hard to make it fit in with continuity and messed that up anyway. There were too many aliens we'd never seen or heard of before. Klingons were new style Klingons and not old and so they spent half a season trying to explain that away. Old aliens like Kligons or Romulan were flying ships seen hundreds of years later in "TOS" or "VOY" times. It was just a big mess.

But the consept of a show about the first exploring Earth Starship sounds like a good show though.

Yeah, there's no way Voyager was worse than Enterprise.

Sea of crap is a little harsh. It was like.... a sea of mediocrity, at worst.

Now, Enterprise. That was a sea of crap.

Scott Bakula has a permant life pass from me for Quantum Leap

In a Mirror Darkly was awesome

Bakula's not enough to make me enjoy that piece of crap. Even Jolene Blalock isn't hot enough to accomplish that.

The Wolfman (2010)
The Lovely Bones
Superman Returns
Terminator Salvation

Someone on here mentioned the Matrix Trilogy. I wouldn't lump the first movie in with the other two. That one was amazing, and more than lived up to the hype. The other two? Crash and burn.

Terminator Salvation
Nine( what's essentially an American remake of 8 1/2 starring Daniel Day Lewis should have been amazing)
12 Years a Slave
Ides of March
The Dark Knight Rises (I really like this film, BUT, it could have been the masterpiece we deserved, but didn't need)
Man Of Steel

The first two on my list I didn't like. The others I all enjoyed, but I felt could have really been killer.

I feel like Man Of Steel could've been much, much better than how it turned out.

To an extent, Tron:Legacy.

Although I really enjoyed this film, there were aspects of it that just felt like they should have been better.

Movies that probably could have been great but turned out fairly crappy:

Immortals
The Matrix sequels
X-Men: The Last Stand
Gangster Squad
Superman Returns
Thor 2
The Hangover 2
Batman Returns
The Star Wars prequels
The Golden Compass
Beowulf
King Arthur
Robin Hood (Russell Crowe)
Only God Forgives

On the road. Wonderful performances (yes, even by Kristen Stewart) but something was missing. I think a younger director could have done a much better, more authentic job.

Viggo Mortensen is breathtaking as William Burroughs and so is Amy Adams as Joan Vollmer.

Probably both. There's a good idea there, but it probably doesn't work as well as it should for as long as they try to make it an action adventure.

The Hobbit part 1 & 2.

I'm going to wait until the third film is released before I pass judgment. For what it's worth, I enjoyed them. Particularly the first one. With the exception of Smaug himself, the second one wasn't as good. While I still enjoyed it, it felt incomplete and it threw in a few too many unnecessary story lines that stood out way more than the added story lines in the first one. It probably would have been for the best if they had just kept it at two films like they originally planned. But like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it's one all-encompassing story, and I think once all three films are out and there's instant gratification in regards to the cliffhangers, I think the trilogy will get a better reputation than it does now.

Waterworld
Lost in Space
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Sahara
Push
Soloman Kane
The A-Team
Constantine
John Carter
Jack the Giant Slayer
After Earth

With the exception of After Earth I would welcome sequels to all these.. or in the case of Lost in Space and Waterworld, maybe even reboots.

Yeah the Hobbit does feel a little.......failed.

Even though it's made a lot of money, it feels a little failed compared to TLOTR Trilogy.

Nothing will give the cliffhanger a pass, it still makes it feel like an incomplete film. Hell, to this day, people still complain about the one in Pirates of the caribbean 2 and matrix 2.

Honestly, Smaug wasn't really anything that special, i have to put my hand in the face everytime somebody mentions it being the greatest CGI character since Gollum, not only does he lack that kind of iconogaphy, but in the past decade we've seen other impressive ones like King Kong and Davy Jones
