My problem is I can't take Kotaku serious.. With anything.
The whole only be able to play as a male and then randomly being able to play as a female after you finish the main storyline just sounds really fake. I can't think of any real logic behind that, unless they just would say, "Ah hell, you finished the game, be a girl if you want" or part of the endgame is the choice to get a sex change or something.
It's also possible that she was right, but that things got altered. It's not unusual for plot details or game elements to change over years of development, or even at the last minute.
Or the end game the husband finds the wife.. And you can then roam the land as her?
It could be a Harvest Moon / Red Dead Redemption kind of situation, where you get to play as the protagonist's kid, and choose their gender.
Hey now, no need to be so abrupt about that not happening. I've played a game where it happened.
Remember Fable 3?t:
Yeah, those situations are possible, but would still be really weird to me. To play the entire game as one gender, and then give you the choice after the game is finished. I mean, I don't really understand the point of that. Just give the option in the beginning.
Oh well.
Also didn't they do the cryo suspension in Rage? That wasn't a very good storyline but then again I do expect more from Fallout.
Maybe its not necessarily playing as a different gender but rather a different character all together - I.E. you play the main quest as the male character (who seems to be in search of his spouse), then at the end, the player is given a choice and one lives and the other dies. You can then continue on and explore the world, play the DLC, etc as the survivor. If it is the spouse of a male character, she would be female.

Fallout 4 begins before the world falls into ruin, Bethesda Game Studios announced today. The game starts on a Saturday morning “in the world before the bombs fell” with your character, your spouse, and child. You’ll be given the choice to play as a male or female character.
Character creation is done during the scene you see above, with your character and their spouse standing next to each other in front of a mirror. You’ll be able to switch between either character on the fly during creation, until you create one you’re happy with and decide to stick with it.
Once the bombs drop and the explosions happen, your character will wake up 200 years later, as the sole survivor of Vault 111. Fallout 4 will allow you to play in either first-person or third-person and will feature multiple dialogue options for every choice you encounter. You’ll also be given a dog you can issue commands to.

Fallout 4 will also have a new Pip-Boy as well, which will allow you to manage your stats, as well as play retro-styled mini-games. Additionally, Bethesda will release a collector’s edition of Fallout 4, the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition, which will come with a real life Pip-Boy model that you can insert your smartphone into.
To accompany Fallout 4, Bethesda have also created an app that will serve as a second screen experience on your phone. This app will be released for iOS and Android devices, and will be available when Fallout 4 is released.

source: Siliconera & GematsuFallout 4 will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10 this year, Bethesda announced during its E3 press conference this evening.
The game will be available in both a standard and “Pip Boy” editions. The latter includes a real Pip Boy that fits your phone. And there’s an app you can download that works with Fallout 4 as a second-screen experience. The app uses the same code as the in-game Pip Boy. Of course, if you don’t get the Pip Boy Edition, you can still download the app and use it.
A gameplay demo shown tonight opened with character creation. You can play as a male or a female, and to create a character, players simply select a part of the face and sculpt them—there are no sliders. The opening is set in the pre-apocalypse. You’re with your wife or husband in a retro-inspired home and robot butler, Codsworth. Your crying baby is in the other room. The player is visited by a Vault-Tec representative and asked to sign a registration form to guarantee a spot in the Vault. But then, panic ensues as reports come in that there was a nuclear bombing in New York, and everyone rushes to the vault. Then a bomb drops where you are.
The gameplay then skips ahead. You are the sole survivor of Vault 111, which you emerge from 200 years later. Exploration ensues as the player roams the world to encounter his former butler robot. Eventually, he comes across a dog, which he takes in as his own.
Another skip brings us to the player finding a Pip Boy, which becomes his. There’s a layered armor system, hollow tapes you can listen to, and even game taps you can play (one is basically Donkey Kong).
Your player will also be able to build his or her own settlement. Your character can scrap materials from the game world and use those materials to rebuild in real-time. As your settlement grows, more people will arrive and help it grow further. You’ll want to build defenses, as raiders will most definitely attack. Bethesda notes that this is an optional part of the game.
In addition to settlement building, there are other things you can modify, too. There are over 50 base weapons and over 700 modifications for those weapons. And you can even modify your own power armor.
Fallout 4 runs on a next-generation version of Bethesda Softworks’ Creation Engine, and features full physical-based rendering and dynamic volumetric lighting. The studio promises the most detailed and ambitious game world its ever made, culminated in the ruins of Boston.

The Wild Hunt already came out. But this will be a good second place. The amount of depth going into this game seems unbelievable. Game of the year, more like game of my life.
