Fallout 4

The character animations look pretty stiff, and the lip-synching is awkward. But man I cannot wait to play this. Looks like a really fun time. And the environments are wonderful.

Yea I think from day one this game never looked to be all that stellar visually. Not saying it looks bad, at all, but it doesn't look like Bethesda was concerned with raising that visual bar. I don't think it matters too much tho as we all know the game will packed to the gills with s**t to see and do.

Plus, ya don't want to spend too much energy knowing regardless of what u do, you'll still be, at best, the 2nd best RPG this gen considering the Witcher 3 is out.

I assume all that next gen power went to all the **** you can do as opposed to graphics.

Is nobody playing Divinity OS?

I'm sure they are, but it's still not better than the Witcher and more than likely F4 when it releases next week.

Based on what? Fallout 4 isn't even out yet. This is the problem with the modern hype culture of video games.

That isn't quite it. The Witcher 3 had an incredible amount of things to do, unique things, but it is gorgeous. The problem with the graphics in Fallout 4 is that Bethesda have just never been good at crafting good looking engine. It also looks like they are still using a modified Oblivion engine, which certainly wouldn't help. The characters have no personality and it is sad, because I am sure the writing will have that character.

As for the animations. Most US based companies just suck at crafting animations.

btw, what platform is everyone getting it on? And are you getting it at launch or waiting? PC for me but I think I'll wait til November unless I get impatient

Launch and probably the PS4, though I always like to wait to see if there is a difference before making that decision.

For what it's worth I'd take Fallout 4 (sight unseen) over The Witcher 3 any day based solely on the fact you can create your own character. Which is by no means to say Witcher 3 is a bad game, but not being able to create my own character is just one of the marks against it when measured up against Fallout 4.

As to the launch trailer, it's bananas. Looks like there's going to be a heavy Brotherhood VS The Institute plot which is pretty exciting! I imagine we'll have to pick a side at some point. I'm wondering how much of an improvement they've made in the underwater stuff, and if power armor will allow us to dive? I guess some sort of propulsion is necessary, like the rocket pack perhaps, otherwise it'll sink like a stone.

For me, the trade off can really kneecap the storytelling. I go to the Witcher for different reasons than I do Fallout. What you gain in freedom and the open ended gameplay you lose the strong narrative with themes, and great writing, and great storytelling.

Depends on what I'm in the mood for, really. I'm eager to see what Fallout 4 will attempt to do in improving the storytelling, but I'm not expecting it get anywhere near The Witcher. Which is fine, not going to it for the narrative.

You don't play Fallout for the campaign, so to speak. It's a nuclear holocaust aftermath simulator.

Do you really create your own character though? I mean, I guess you can make them look the way you want, but the actual storytelling elements seem rather limited in terms of character.

Yeah, exactly. Both have different strengths, different aims. Both games scratch different itches for me. It's why I've never really had a problem with the shooting in previous Fallout games, I'm not coming to it for it be a tight and responsive FPS.

You can pretty much do the same thing with The Witcher 3 if you choose to. Play it as an open world sandbox. But it also has the story. So it is kind of the best of both worlds imo.

I'm really hoping someone releases a mod to remove the player character's voice.

I see what you're saying and to a degree, yes, I'd agree. But then there's how you approach certain things, and more so how you act when you're out in the world -unrestricted by quest lines. I mean, I guess you can act however you like when you're running around in The Witcher as well, but I'm the kind of person who likes to play in-character. GTAV, for example, I tended to play the way I best thought each of the three characters would act in any given situation.

It's really just a personal preference at the end of the day. Like I said, I'm by no means crapping on Witcher 3. I'm sure it's a fantastic game, but Fallout wins out in my book for a few reasons.

Don't compare Witcher 3 and Fallout 4. The former is open-world action adventure with RPG elements and focus on storytelling. The latter is a sandbox RPG with focus on exploration. Both seem to belong to the same genre on the surface, but ultimately different in nature.

I'm not gonna buy it for now, it looks too shady. I'm not convinced (yet) it's gonna be a home run like Skyrim. If it ends up being really good and the hype is worth it, I'm all in. Money is ready.

Eh they're similar enough to throw out the "best RPG this year" line when talking about the two. Which btw, after Nov 10th, will still be the Witcher 3. Non debatable. Fallout 4 will make for an awesome runner up tho.

It is though...

I know you like to follow the line in your signature pretty closely, and again I'm not saying Witcher 3 isn't a good game -heck, I haven't played it, maybe it will be better than Fallout 4- but out and out saying it's going to be the best RPG for everyone is...wishful thinking at best and straight up wrong at worst. Others are going to have different opinions. You love the Witcher 3 and that's awesome, but in reality some people are going to like Fallout 4 more...and some are going to like an entirely different RPG more than either game.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, this would be one of those 0.2% times :woot:
