That looks like 'The Batman' cartoon show drawn in a realistic manner.

I did a simple pencil drawing of the head and body seperately.
Then I scan it and color it.
Then I add whatever manipped elements (in this case Scarecrow and the Background)
Then i make color/contrast adjustments before its done.

What program do you use? If you use photoshop, which version do you use?

I'm trying to get photoshop since majority of the people seem to be using it. I just can't afford it right now. I'm just curious in case I finally decide to cough up the cash to buy one.

I use photoshop 7.0. I dont mess with CS or any of that just yet. Maybe you can get a copy of an older photoshop through school or a friend or something (for just manips and fan art its REALLY expensive just to purchase.) Here is the closer view of the cowl.

I like the color mods that were made to this. Although, it looks more like a "special" suit that Batman would wear, and not his everyday gear.

this is my simple method... its almost my style yet i know people do it ..i think...

PHOTOSHOP is needed for this crappy ass tutorial!!

Okay first things First! When you get the original image, find the darks or hard edges and outline them using hte polygonal lasso tool.. color in hte selction with any color.. (i use black for comic bookish) Do this on a NEW layer

Then in a new layer start coloring! I started to look at the original picture and started to color the scarcrows face... the end result was cool.. but i wanted a tecxture look...so i added an effect..
I then made other layers for eyes and then his jacket....

Ok then i created other layers for what i forgot (his worm and stuff)

And then because of all the layers youve made.. you could get rid of the background if you want..and this is how it'll look like..

It takes a while to get used too.. but its fun... Try it, and show me...

To tell you the truth you completely lost me after the outlining and filling part.

In any case, if you decide to do another one (say with Batman or something ), you think you can write up a more detailed step-by-step complete with screencaps for each step? It'd be easier doing it that way since you're going along as well.
