Fantasy Island the movie starring Eddie Murphy?

This should be....hmmm. I was hoping for Javier Bardem but I guess they're going a little different.

Dave Bautista in Talks to Join Michael Pena in 'Fantasy Island' Movie (Exclusive)

Dave Bautista is in negotiations to join the growing cast of Fantasy Island, the big-screen reimagining of the 1970s television show from Sony and Blumhouse, the fright-filled production banner run by Jason Blum.

The feature project is described as being a tonal mix of Westworld meets Cabin in the Woods, centering on a group of contest winners who arrive at an island hotel to live out their dreams, only to find themselves trapped in nightmare scenarios.

Michael Pena is starring as Mister Roarke, the host with most (secrets, that is). Crazy Rich Asians and Silicon Valley actor Jimmy O. Yang has also booked a stay on the island. If a deal makes, Bautista will play a former guest who is still on the island against his will and who wants to expose Roarke and the island’s magical secrets.

Guessing those are all the guests.

Blumhouse's 'Fantasy Island' Movie is All About Creating Modern Fantasies [Exclusive]

Michael Pena plays Roarke, the Montalban role. There is no Tattoo, the Villechaize character, in the Fantasy Island movie.

“No, not in this one, but I think if they have more they will do that or something,” Hansen said. “I don’t really know yet.”

I understand why, but you think they could’ve kept the character by reimagining him. It seems disrespectful to Villechaize’s memory to ignore the character completely because they don’t want to ruffle any feathers.

If they didn't want to have a dwarf, they could've reimagined him as a little kid instead. That would also fit with his enthusiasm for saying "the plane, the plane!"

I'm surprised they didn't cast Benedict Cumberbatch as Roarke just like they did for Khan. :o

This looks... interesting?

All the talk about this just keeps reminding me of the atrocity that is The Hunt still not being released. If not by Universal, surely there's someone they're willing to pawn it off to.

This certainly looks different to the TV show, a darker twist on the concept, great to see Maggie Q in a main role though.

Was checking out the showtimes for this friday and a lot of them are pretty close to full. It may do well considering it only had a budget of 7 mil.

Wait, where's Eddie Murphy in this? He wasn't in the trailer and isn't listed in the cast. Shouldn't his name be removed from the thread title?

Yes, but what’s fun about these old threads is tracking the history of a project like this. That circa 2007 it was going to star Eddie Murphy in a comedic version. I love following a project in development hell to when it actually gets produced for good or ill.

Just got out of this with the ball and chain, saw Sonic on my own during lunch hour. The marketing is playing up the horror but it's actually pretty accurate to the show's scenario and is probably more funny than scary.

This sh** was painful to watch. It makes his last movie Truth or Dare seem way more competent.
