Far Cry 5

Between this, The Church in the Darkness and Outlast 2, there's a lot of Jonestown/Waco going around lately.

No offense to Montana, but this seems like a massive downgrade in terms of location. I want more exotic locations for Far Cry. Island full of pirates and drug gangs, Nepal full of militia and soldiers, prehistoric Euroupe filled with cavemen...Hope County, Montana.

One of those things really, really doesnt belong. Even if the bad guys are hillbilly militias how is this game going to justify your character waging a one man all out war in the middle of America where the FBI, Marshalls, and Local Law enforcement would immediately shut that **** down? With the other games they could get away with a single person going on a murder spree because law enforcement and social order was nonexistent in the loactions of those games. But unless Montana is a failed state or local and federal law enforcement dont exist in the game's version of the USA I fail to see how it can explain or justify itself.
I've thought about this too. Thing is, there is actually quite a large number of large uninhabited areas in the US that are fairly nesstled away from civilization. Montana has plenty of such areas.

If you look at the maps of previous Far Cry games, they're actually not very large from a real world point of view. Couple square miles, tops. In the world of Far Cry, I don't think it's a big leap at all to assume there is a small town/county hidden away in one of the many "uncivilized" areas of Montana, closed off enough to not attract attention from more urban areas and their accompanying police forces. And if the county is run by a massive fictional cult, they're not really going to be quick to call the nearest PD when something goes down, especially if they have an "Us vs them" mentality. And I'm sure the story will address any particulars to justify how a game like Far Cry can take place in an area that isn't already war torn.

Yeah, pretty much.

As pretty as this game looks i urge you all to watch the youtube video titled 'Ubisoft Downgrades' by Crowbcat, this game well not be that technologically impressive i assure you that.

Eh, whether or not they downgrade the visuals is the least of my concern with this. My biggest concern is it being just another Ubisoft Open World game wasting another solid idea with busywork to pad out the experience.

As long as the game runs well and plays well, "downgraded" visuals don't mean s**t.

As long as the game visually matches or surpasses Far Cry 4 and Primal Ill be happy. I'm not expecting a Far Cry game's graphics to reach the heights of Uncharted. Nor am I expecting the graphics to be identical to a trailer. The console power required to run a full 12 hour open world game is a lot different from the power required to run a small demo section.

People need to get over the fact that game companies use demo footage and different builds in trailers and at E3. It's always going to be a bit different in the final game.

Since we dont have much to discuss until E3 here is some insane Far Cry 4 skills.

One thing I hope Far Cry 5 has is camps, but with more variety. I love conquering canps/outposts in Far Cry 3 and 4 and Primal. If this game has bigger outposts and more unpredictability has been added into the mix Ill be very happy.

Yeah I like that and hope to see more of it.

I've been watching a walkthrough and apparently the protagonist is entirely mute. Doesnt say anything during the game. I'll never understand why developers think that is immersive. There's nothing immersive about a main character that is a blank shell with zero personality. And imo it shatters the immersion when the main character never says anything during conversations and never verbally reacts to the crazy **** happening around them.

This game needs a patch. Now. I'm getting gunshot audio drops and random audio changes. Sometimes a sniper rifle sounds like a pea shooter and sometimes it sounds like an elephant gun. Sometimes I won't even hear the shot and the npc I'm shooting at will just fall dead. And other times I'll shoot an NPC and there is a 1 or 2 second delay before the AI registers the shot and drops dead. AI in general is a mess.

Has anyone picked this up yet? Been watching some Twitch, it's interesting to say the least.

I would wait until it's patched. It's a lot of the same and some new things. Anyone that liked previous Far Cry games will probably like this as long as they don't mind having a protagonist that's a blank slate and don't mind some minor bugs and frustrating npcs. It seems for every improvement there is a new frustration. For example, the player doesn't have to activate towers to uncover the map and reveal missions. Instead the player has to drive around to uncover the map. And to find side missions the players has to read notes, listen to answering machines, turn on radios, and talk to the townsfolk spread throughout the game. It's more immersive. The downside is when you are talking to an NPC to get a mission the NPC will tell a short story. And way too often a random wild animal will attack the NPC. You have to kill the animal, revive the NPC, and initiate the conversation again, and listen to their whole conversation over again before the side quest will appear on the map. It doesn't matter if the NPC is at the beginning, middle, or almost at the end of their conversation, if they are attacked it entirely resets the NPC. Even turkeys will randomly fly out of nowhere and attack NPCs. They ignore the player and go straight for the NPC. This timesuck adds up and reduces the level of immersion.

And the opening moments that set off the story is particularly dumb even for a far cry game. One Federal Marshall, a rookie deputy, a sherrif, and two experienced deputies walk into a heavily fortified compound filled with heavily armed cultists. Their mission is to arrest the cult leader and escort him out of the compound to a helicopter. The sheriff and his deputies know all about this cult and understand how incredibly deadly the cult members are and yet they think they can go in with only 5 people and just arrest the cult leader and walk out. From what I could see only one of them even thinks to wear Kevlar and they have no immediate backup anywhere near the compound. It defies all logic.

In spite of these issues, however, there is fun to be had, but this is not a full price game. Wait for it to drop to $35 or lower.

picked it up Tuesday, really liking it

its fun to just roam the woods and do random stuff

Edit: The ending is different depending on the choice the player makds. The ending for me was completely insane, scary, and dark as ****. It's even more horrifying cause I played as a female character.

I watched the other ending and it's equally scary in it's own way.

Hearing lots of good things about this one.

Bought it last night! So far so good!!

Much better than previous Far Crys?

I bought a copy last Saturday, been playing every day, and I love it. Seriously I do, a lot more than I thought I would. The location, while not ideal for the series, worked out brilliantly. I've only just completed John Seed's territory, I killed him, but there's still a lot more to do. I also took some pot shot at the PEGs in Faith's territory, but have yet to fully commit to it. I gotta say I like the whole Project at Eden's Gate idea, refreshing change of pace for the villains.

And as always, this game satisfies my need to quietly scope out an outpost, and systematically kill everyone with a bow and arrow, a Far Cry pass time IMO.

One downside however is the gun selection, it feels really weak compared to past games. There's only 4 sniper rifles ( not counting the different skins), and one is just a variation of another. I hope they add more guns via DLC eventually.
