Fast 8

If they don't end up going in that direction with this film, then I'll be surprised.

Now we just need Anthony Hopkins as Daddy Shaw. (And if he can join Transformers: The Last Knight, then he is not too good for the Fast franchise.)

Since F Gary Gray did "The Italian Job" I hope we can still snag Michael Caine.

Mirren I buy being Mama Shaw, but I'm not convinced Theron is Sister Shaw.

Eh if we're going with cooler older guy I'd go with Anthony Hopkins.

There's no cooler old guy then My Cocaine

Caine wasn't in the Italian Job remake

I know but by association since F Gary Gray did the remake of the original MAYBE he can snag Caine this time?

Oh my gosh mirren in the fast and the furious franchise? Fantastic news!

Isn't it weird how the franchise started off so testeroney and is now actually kind of camp in its own way? I love it

If you told me 15 years ago that a mid-budget teen movie about L.A. street racers would eventually become my favorite franchise, I would've called you crazy.

It seems like since Fast Five they've revamped the franchise considerably to become the megahit it is. After Furious 7 became a monster success last year, I'm curious how long the series will stick around.

I think that Vin mentioned a new trilogy of films at least, with the possibility of spin-offs as well (I know that they've been talking about Hobbs possibly getting his own movie for example).

Also it's one of the most diverse action franchises out there, if not THE most diverse. Which is why so many women and minorities love it as well, despite it's "manly testosterone" routes.

And it can being surprisingly genuinely emotional and heartfelt at times, and it's utter sincerity about it's "family" message as well.

It was, before it was a full on action franchise,
Now, it's success makes more sense.
FF5 turned the tide.

Agreed. Everything clicked with that movie. The Brazil location. The addition of the Rock. Embracing the history of the franchise, and not being embarrassed by it. The smartest move they made was bringing back Roman, Tej, and Han.

I do think they need to exercise caution. As great as it to see these crazy stunts, it would be nice to see some realism (i.e. Dom can't just roll down a mountain in a car and walk away without a single scratch).

I dunno, I kinda love the schlocky video game-y action. Stuff like Brian running up a truck falling off a cliff or Hobbs landing on a car several stories above and only breaking his arm. It would be a problem if these movies took themselves seriously, but they don't.

Plus it's not like this is the only action franchise that does that, not hardly. It's just that it works better here because, they own it and even embrace it. They're almost going "yeah this is stupid, and over the top, and ridiculous, and you're all going to love it anyway because we have fun with it."

It's funny that Vin Diesel was already in his 30's in the first movie LOL

Fast and Furious 4 brought back the nostalgia with the original cast members back after 8 years

Then FF 5 started the trend of an insane final action sequence

FF5-Two cop cars and a bank Vault trailing behind

FF6-A giant cargo plane with the longest runway ever

FF7- A little more low key with just running around L.A and the parking complex collapsing

He's almost 50 now, and yet he looks almost exactly the same as he did back then.

My confession is I've only seen Furious 7. What else is worth checking out in the series?

The first one is, ok. And you could probably watch it because it introduces a lot of the characters and sets up their dynamics (Dom, Brian, Letty, Mia, etc).

The second one is pretty bad and all that it does is introduce Roman and Tej. So skip it.

Tokyo Drift is, awful.

The Fourth one is where things start to turn around, and it leads into #5 pretty directly.

Fast Five is where things really get stupidly fun and enjoyable. Plus it's where they first truly bring everyone together.

Fast Six is not quite as good, but it's still good and continues on from Five pretty well.

Really #4-#7 feel kind of like one long mega-storyline that builds on itself. I'm curious to see if this film will do that as well.

If you watch the first one, throw all expectations out the window. Looks nothing like the franchise today besides Dom and Brian. It was made before the age of cinematic universes.
