Favorite MUSICAL movies ever?

Not normally into musicals but I absolutely love Alan Parker's Evita.

Edit: I forgot about Singin' in the Rain. That's great too.

Picking a single scene from the best ones is almost a disservice, but here we go:

Singin' in the Rain

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

My Fair Lady

Top Hat

Swing Time

Cabaret

The Sound of Music

Moulin Rouge

La La Land

Band Wagon

I also don't know if this counts as an actual musical so I didn't include it in my 10, but I love All That Jazz. It's Bob Fosse's semi-autobiographical film about choreographer/director who's boozing, drugs, and infidelity puts him in the grave (he made it about 7 years before he had an actual heart attack and died like his character). But it includes a number of great musical numbers like these:

1776
Singin' in the Rain
Chicago
The Sound of Music
The Wizard of Oz
Hans Christian Andersen
Yankee Doodle Dandy
Moulin Rouge

Singing In the Rain I like. I like Chicago and Sweeny Todd also, I like the darker themes to those film that contrast with the often brighter music.

Do animated movies count? If not, Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.

If you like darker ones and haven't watched them, check out Bob Fosse's Cabaret and All That Jazz. Chicago is very much built in their mold (same songwriters as Cabaret and Rob Marshall emulating Fosse... but not nearly as seedy as the original).

In terms of live action, Enchanted, Chicago, and Across the Universe.

For me it'll always be a tie - The Wizard of Oz, and South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.

Funny, I've been on a binge of musicals as of late. The Wizard of Oz, Singin' In the Rain, and My Fair Lady are the first few that come to mind. I do quite enjoy Grease, Funny Girl, and The Blues Brothers as well.

The extremely underrated Streets of Fire.

The Wizard of Oz
West Side Story
Meet Me in St. Louis
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
The Sound of Music
On the Town
An American in Paris
Mary Poppins
The That's Entertainment! series
Easter Parade

Wanted to add:
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

I had a blast with 2012 Les Mis and The Greatest Showman.

Les Miserables (2012)
Cabaret
God Help The Girl (this is so underrated)
La La Land
Sing Street
Singing in the Rain
Moulin Rouge

I know not a lot of folks love older musicals (and I'm talking '30s, '40s, '50s), but this video edit I think does a good job of showing modern tastes the amount of craft and talent that went into making these which seems unreal today.

The Sound of Music. Still a classic after all these years.

Grease could've been better, but is dragged down by some boring parts in the middle. The stage musical is more interesting because they have more numbers. Some of these numbers are just background music in the film.

But what about films that inspired musicals but were not musicals in the first place? For example, Waitress is not a musical movie but a comedy drama. But it now has a stage musical based on the film with music by Sara Bareilles, which has some great music. If they were to do an adaptation of that, is it just a remake of a musical that is a remake of a film? Or do they approach it like something like Les Mis, which has had many adaptations, some of which aren't musical at all, and then one of the actual stage musical? But that's based on source material. For Waitress, the original film is the source material.

Another musical film is God Help The Girl. which also has some great songs.

The song was used in an episode of Agents of SHIELD for Jemma Simmons, although it was this version not from the film but the stage musical:

I prefer the film version of the song with Emily Browning though. It's more catchy.

If we include stage shows that'd be a different list. My favorite stage musicals include:

Hamilton
Sweeney Todd
Phantom of the Opera
Cabaret
The Producers
Avenue Q
Rent
My Fair Lady
Spamalot
The Book of Mormon
Les Miserables
Bright Star

Others, but I will stop there for now.

2007 Hairspray as well. I don't consider Enchanted as a musical since it only has 3 musical numbers but I love that movie!

Not in any order....

Wizard of Oz
Singin' in the Rain
West Side Story
La La Land
Mary Poppins
An American in Paris
Once
Meet me in St Louis

I love Hairspray 2007 but I still wish they would've cast someone who could actually sing as Penny. Amanda Bynes was great acting wise but she is not a singer.

Oh Lordy what a big question.

I think I would have to say Mary Poppins. Truly magical and Julie Andrews is a boss
