The Malloreon - David Eddings

Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles

you should try the artefacts of power by maggie furey, very similar in style to mcaffery

So many of my favorites have already been mentioned (most notably C. Lee's list, the Piers Anthony, Michael Crichton and P.K. Dick stuff), so I'll just add my current favorite author to the list: Laurell K. Hamilton. Check out her "Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter" series. Great stuff.

Hmmm....it would seem the video with this name deviates significantly from the aforementioned plotline. :o

I don't know about any similarly named video....this is a series written by David Sherman and Dan Cragg....both former long time military men who use their knowledge of that adapted to space and the future.

Anyone have any good suggestions for a Post-Apocalyptic book for me?

Like, post-war type stuff? Or like alternate future type stuff? "Farenheit 451" was always one of my favorites if you've never read that before.

What books titles offhand?

For Grimwood, the Arabesk Trilogy is cool. "Pashazade" is the first book.

For Smith, "The Probability Broach" kicks off a whole series based on the premise of what the world would be like if the Confederacy had won the Civil War.

Deighton's "The Ipcress File" is good stuff, as well.

Of course, you could really get into some cyber-punk authors like William Gibson (Neuromancer, All Tomorrow's Parties, Pattern Recognition), John Shirley (City Come A Walkin') or Neal Stephenson (Snow Crash), not to mention Philip K. Dick. You want your mind bent, those guys can do it.

DAMN! I forgot all about the Incarnations of Immortality series. I love that series, though I was a little disappointed in the last book. And the two you left out, With a Tangled Skein or Wielding a Red Sword, are also good.

The Sword of Shannara series and the Magic Kingdom, both by Terry Brooks was my second favorite after LOTR.

Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler, gave me nightmares :O

Stephen Baxter's The Time Ships

Great book, there are various alternate timelines, and more than one are post-apocolyptic. A good portion of the middle of the book concerns one in which WWI went on into the '50s. Everyoe lives in cities covered by giant concrete domes.
