Totally agree on Reeve's smile. Man, I watched STM earlier this year, probably hadn't seen it in at least 5 years and that smile at the end still
gets me - takes me right back to being 8 years old in the cinema.
I loved Man of Steel, but even I can admit that they possibly went a bit
too far away from Reeve's Superman - I thought Cavill a very serious and
believable Superman (which is what MOS called for) but if I had to choose a Superman to save me from a disaster, it'd be Reeve.
Totally disagree with you there on Dark Knight (in terms of it being overrated) , but respect your opinion - hell, that's how I feel about the
first Thor film.
To be totally honest, I actually preferred the second Thor movie (I know that makes lots of people gasp in horror) as Thor took himself a lot less seriously, and it really worked - if they'd have left out Kat Dennings it would have been perfect.
Also, the fact that the Bifrost is totally rebuilt by the second film, and Thor was in the Avengers, kind of defeats part of the purpose of that ending. I found it kind of lame, in an otherwise enjoyable film.
As far as Cap, and Days of Future Past, well Cap's not really my cup of tea. but if you enjoy him, that's cool.
In terms of DOFP, well, I don't think anyone has really captured the spirit of the Xmen on the big screen - although Matthew Vaughn came close with first class. DOFP was Singer's best X-film, but even then it left me a bit empty at the end - I find his films fun but forgettable, but that's just me.
I'm fan of real classic X-men, I'm talking mid-late 70's up to 1990 Xmen (which, coincidentally is where most of the X-films storylines come from, check it out people, "God Loves, Man Kills" which is pretty much the source of X2, is my favourite single X-story) and I still don't think anyone's done justice to them onscreen - because they've neglected Cyclops too much as the leader of the Xmen (in both a moral and tactical sense) as well as concentrated too much on Logan ( Hey, I love Wolvie, I'm canadian too !) but the Xmen of old were about way more than just Wolverine.
Hell, Wolverine and Nightcrawler's friendship has been completely ignored, and Kitty Pryde has been pretty much a cameo - and she was one of the most important X-characters.
The only X-characters who I feel have been done justice by the films are Professor X and Magneto - although possibly because they've been played by absolutely brilliant actors - hell I'd go and see the films just for that.
Sorry, big tangent there. Anyway, so agree and disagree a bit, but that's cool man, that's what it's all about.
Cheers.
Thor - "She searches for you."
Captain America: The First Avenger - "I had a date."
X-Men: Days of Future Past - "History? Actually I could use a little help with that."
I still think
Batman Begins is the better film, but the way this scene plays out, with the camera slowly going up, and we see Bats standing there while Danny Elfman's brilliant score is firing on all cylinders, still wows me today as much as it did when I was a kid.
That image of Christopher Reeve smiling at the camera is one of my favorite memories from childhood.
And as much as I find
The Dark Knight somewhat overrated, I'll not deny how brilliant that ending was.
