Favorite Vocalist of the 90's

Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder and Thom Yorke immediately spring to mind.

IMO Kurts voice was his worst aspect as a musician... but then again, his guitar playing wasn't that great either.....

Just watched some of the unplugged videos for AIC.... wow.... show these to any drug addicted teen....

drugs... BAD

His voice was perfect for the attitude and emotions his songs were meant to convey. For me, the true mark of a great singer is one who can interpret the message of his or her songs in the right manner, not necessarily one who can sing them well.

And besdies, Corgan isn't exactly the Sinatra of rock when it comes to vocal ability.

"Smells Like A Teen Spirit" is the only one that gets an insane amount of airplay, at least nowadays. But a lot of there stuff sadly slips under the radar. Check out the With The Lights Out... boxed set. A lot of great rarities that for me could sway your opinion.

With The Lights Out is probably the best musical purchase I ever made.
Actually, it was a gift, but I think I made my point. :o

most Nirvana songs had NO message, I defend Kurt a lot against the people trying to pretend they're music experts just by bashing some sacred cow.
but seriously now " doll stake, test meat"? that was just the Heroin talking.

see... i would not rank Curt even in the top 25 top vocalist of the 90's.... he is what I consider the Johnny Cash of grunge.... he was inspirational and a tragic figure... not the best voice or even that exceptionaly talented.... he's a legend, and did a lot for the rock scene, wether is was opening doors for other artist (ala, AIC, soundgarden, pearl jam etc) entertainment for people, destroying hair rock, or just inspiring people.... and you can't take that away from him

Ones I have not seen was John Bush, Anthrax/Armored Saint, Geoff Tate, Queenryche, Ray Adler, Fates Warning.
