No matter when and how Trump leaves office, the vitriol he has stirred up will remain. It wouldn't surprise me if we did see attacks against journalists eventually.

I'm surprised more haven't happened. :(

I am waiting for the mob to attack CNN at one of his rallies.

EDIT: So, blaming the CA wildfires on tough environmental regulations I am sure is going to go over well.

Its like the old man that punched the black guy at a rally before the election. "If he comes back, we may have to kill him."

This isn't surpring. In fact I'm sure most of us saw this coming. There has been a portion of the population that has always been paranoid, and extremely distrusting of anything government, or media related. Forming militias, afraid the government was coming for them and their guns after Wako. Believers in the deep state.

Trump speaks to them. That the media they don't like is lying. That they're helping the FBI, and CIA they already distrust, perform a coup on "their president". Toss in some talk about liberals, BLM, and Antifa, and you are absolutely speaking a language they want to hear.

Of course it's dangerous. People who don't believe a setting president calling fellow US citizens ENEMIES, in today's world, is dangerous are just diluding themselves. I remember thinking back when Trump said a judge would be to blame if another attack happened on US soil, that that judge was going to be shot. Even if most people won't attempt murder, it just takes the one, or two who will.

So Trump fans can keep loving his, "tell it how it is" Jerry Springer attitude. One day though it's going to get someone killed.

I forgot to add the time Trump told his supporters if they attacked anyone he would cover their legal fees.

Or this time, which I admit could be the wrong context, but he says second amendment supporters could take care of Hillary.

Trump said:
"If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks,” Trump said before adding: "Though the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”

Or the time he said he'd shoot Bergdahl. Or calling Mexican immigrants rapists, and murderers, and then repeatedly talking about immigrants committing murder in other countries stoking these fears.

I always find it hilarious when Trump supporters say Obama was a divisive race baiter when he stuck mostly a reconciliation tone while Trump has been stirring up racial division and xenophobia since the moment he announced he was running for office.

You have to remember that in their twisted vision of reality the handful of times Obama addressed issues of race honestly but in a measured tone was the same as Lous Farrkahn speaking on the subject and just as militant. Somehow his statement about Trayvon Martin or Henry Gates' arrest was the same as shouting "kill whitey" from the presidential lectern. In other words, the usual obtuse silliness. But even more... They think that somehow Obama's occasional public statements on race justify Trump's obvious demagoguery. It's literally every single time it's brought up in some article a supporter in the comments uses Obama to justify Trump's heated rhetoric. It's honestly astonishing this disconnect from reality.

They wouldn't think that if they had ever actually been to Russia. I've worked with Russians before. Putin is a dick.

There's a group that thinks any racial conversations automatically equal anti-white people. Like when black lives matter started. They became offended, swearing black lives matter = white lives don't matter.

Which was always an obviously wrong conclusion. Black lives matter rose up in the middle of several deaths of black people by police officers, some on tape. Some very obviously unjust. It was saying, "We're being unjustly killed, we matter too! We deserve to live as much as anyone else!" It was never saying any other race didn't deserve to live.

So just like you said Krypton, it was an extreme warp of reality. What they wanted to hear was black people foaming at the mouth yelling for white people to die, and that's what they heard. The first time looters mixed in with BLM peaceful protesters, they instantly became labeled as home grown terrorists by this same group.

They don't want to listen to well reasoned, articulate arguments on race. They don't want counterpoints. They want a villain they can point at to dodge, or pretend racism doesn't exist. Or a villain that makes them more in danger than the minorities they say have no hardships.

In the here, and now, Trump feeds those feelings. That the white supremacists at that rally were possibly more peaceful than the counter protesters. That all Mexican immigrants are dangerous sub humans. That all Muslims are terrorists that shouldn't be allowed in the country. Trump gives them winks and nods that give them cover, and ammunition.

It's truly amazing. The same group that used to put American flag decals on their trucks, wear American flag hats, and treated the 4th of July like the holiest holiday.

That same group is now wearing shirts that basically say, "I'd rather be Russian than American if I couldn't be a republican". People who used to say the word freedom like a catch phrase now want to snuggle up to the people trying to mess with their democracy, and freedoms.

Editorial about treatment of migrant kids.
At least, in Trump's world.. people (not Trump or Republicans but others) are paying attention. The dubious advantages of having a hostile power at the top, I suppose.

[Like in India.. Honor killings and killings of minorities and lower castes were prevalent in North India before. But, having Modi and BJP at the top has both exacerbated and amplified the violence, and brought a close focal lense on it.

People can't now say that India is secular country (well, it is by constitution), a progressive country that takes into account the rights of women and others, or praise India's ancient past and how it's better than the west without reasonable people pointing at these.]

Kind of says a lot about how real their patriotism ever really was, doesn't it?

I naively used to think it would be difficult for a 21st century western nation to become one of those authoritarian or fascist states. Not so much anymore. There seems to be plenty of people in power and among the general population who would willingly go down that path without a second thought.

It's funny when Trump says that the media isn't the enemy of the people, but rather the fake news. But from his little toddler mind, all major news outlets besides Fox News, is fake news.

CNN
MSNBC
CBS

So he actually is saying the media is the enemy of the people, because everything except ass licking Fox News is fake news.

Ha, I can't wait to see all the Iphones broken in rage over iTunes pulling InfoWars. :woot:

I see it more as "I don't care if a foreign power disrupts our democracy as long as that foreign power is from a majority white country, and it (in their minds) benefits my political party...which I view as the party for white power".

So we've gone from "Better dead than Red" to "I'd rather be a Russian than a Democrat." How things have changed in a few decades.

And what seems to be the vectors for this? Freakingvsocial media and reality television. You couldn't write this. That said... In all honesty I saw the negative outcomes of those two things in particular back in the early 2000's. Look up articles from the period and for everyone that raised the dark side of both phenomenon there was another that scolded us that even suspicion was an overreaction. I'm not proud of being right... But I was right. Reality shows did warp people's perception of genuine human interaction as did social media (the Hype is no exception) as well as create an atmosphere that addicted many to an eternal us vs them mentality that wasn't about dealing with complexity in clashes or debates but about simple, easy to follow narratives. They also both were easily exploited to spread false fronts. I mean a giant part of why we have Trump is THE APPRENTICE. But people don't realize that show was a lifeline to Trump and his image. People that worked on the show talk about how ratty Trump's facilities outside of his personal living spaces were at Trump Tower at the time. How they set dressed things around him to make him fit the image people had about him in the 80's but didn't really reflect his financial circumstances at the time. I posit that had there been no show that he's just a forgotten relic from decades past.

So Donald Trump finally admits his son had met with the Russian spies to get dirt on Hillary. In other words, he is guilty of collusion like we've always knew he did.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Trump's own Tweet is what led to his impeachment trial?

Can't be worse than when Obama wiretapped journalists and tried to throw James Risen in prison. Besides, we've already seen Antifa attack numerous journalists during their illegal protests.
