For that type Bryan/Punk feud, they would have to examine Michaels/Jericho in 2008 and how they handled the promos and story. Jericho exposed Michaels' flaws and dark history, but Michaels never turned. As well as Hogan/Savage. I didn't see that feud, but I recently watched the 25 Best Feuds in Wrestling History, and CM Punk spoke about that feud, how the MegaPowers exploded, and how Savage's paranoia seemed justified. Neither Savage or Hogan turned heel, right? They maintained their face status.
Savage turned heel in the feud with Hogan but there was enough there for fans to support Savage if they chose, I mean it gave Jesse Ventura great ammo for commentary. These days that type of angle would really be great if they stopped short of going full heel and allow the fans to choose who they wanted to cheer for.
The good thing about Cesaro is that the man is an amazing spectacle who's able to pull off some amazing feats. Along with the Big Swing, the superplex from the apron to inside the ring, and the Swiss Death. But he hasn't even done anything as surprising as what he did in the ending of his 2 out of 3 falls match against Sami Zayn on NXT. When he's allowed to show those feats on RAW, he'll get even more over.
I agree that Cesaro has a lot in his locker to get fans into him, especially these days when the in ring performance is appreciated more by the live crowds than it used to be. He is still gonna need a character hook though in the same way Bryan got to the next level when he started to forge a personality.
