Cool. Archived? How does that work? And is it accessible to all? That really is a cool idea. Yes, I'll see you at the new thread. Maybe you could do a countdown to getting it started on this thread. Okay, that's just me not wanting to give this one up yet.

^^ Yeah, it has been a great ride Malus, a nostalgic trip down memory lane, culminating in a fun movie.

It has been a great run and will be missed. I don't have much on memorablia, being far from home, but I can patrol other places and contribute by reference.

See you in a bit.

Highguard,
Google Image Search is a wonderful thing. :cwink:
Have fun.

Just bumping this soon-to-be-retired thread to let everyone who viewed it regularly know that the "FF Memories & Memorabilia" thread launches tonight.

Hope to see you all there and hoping many of you have stuff to contribute.
It could even be a favorite panel, a scan of a coloring book cover, a picture of a favorite action figure, a foreign-language FF comic, an anecdote about something FF-related...just about anything...

What do you want the new title to be?

Damn I loved those Mego dolls. That was my summer of '74 - 76. Searching the stores for that kind of stuff and begging my Mom to buy them for me.

Well Albafan has given me the option of re-titling this thread and taking it in a new direction as opposed to starting an all-new one. This would keep the countdown history at everyone's fingertips, so maybe that's the way to go. The countdown started last October 30th, and includes an FF cover gallery from issue #1-229, along with covers from just about every other FF-related title (Marvel 2-in-1, FF Unlimited, Marvel Knights 4, Silver Surfer, etc.) up to issue #30.
That's a lot of cool stuff to see disappear (and a lot of work) so I guess I'm leaning towards the notion of re-titling the thread and continuing on.
But the floor's open if anyone has any objections...?

I like that idea.

You've put way too much work into this. I've spent the last few hours re-covering old material; finding things I missed the first time, and noticing new things about familiar material. It's a great source for people to look at for a long time to come. As I've said on here many times I don't read the new stuff. I felt disenfrachised long ago. But you know what, I've learned things about the new stuff, just as I hope younger generations learn about the FF foundation.

I've been been methodically, painfully looking over the thread, not wanting to see it go. I hope they leave it up for a while to come. It's just too good, too good at bringing people together to put away just yet.

Also, who knows, you might be receiving residual research grant checks from college students doing papers on comics. (I'm always trying to find that little economic angle for you Malus)

My thread. My poor, favorite thread. It's been bumped to the second page. I miss it.

Sorry for the delay, Agent.
I realized I needed to write some kind of review for the Review Showcase thread while there was a chance that those involved in the movie would still be reading.

Now that that's out of the way, I can get back to much happier pursuits, like transforming this thread into the "FF Memories" thread.
I'll be re-editing the very first post and then we'll commence with the thread's new direction. :yay:

Goodie Goodie good.

You might want to consider transforming this thread into a "topic a day" discussion. Pick out a subject from the FF's history and deal with aspects of that topic.

Then you can jump to anything... like characterization, storylines, legacies, memorabilia, collectibles, etc. It could go on for quite a while that way.

Does recent FF related stuff count?
Sure.

Hmm. Good idea.

I don't know why you couldn't continue in the same vain. Just keep showing cool covers. Greatest publicity Marvel's ever had. Greatest teaching tool and learning device for comics readers that I can think of.

And man, hasn't it brought people together?

I'd rather not see a thing change. You're onto the winning formula. There may not be anything in particular to count down right now, but later on, who knows? It was working for me. Ted Koppel's Nightline started as a countdown to the release of the hostages and evolved into something else.

If it ain't broke......

Since no one's on here and doesn't seem to be ever again, I'm going to stand on stage alone here and say once again.....I miss my thread.

My apologies, Agent (and anyone else waiting for the memorabilia imagery to start)- I've been categorizing the pix I have, digging through my collection and yes, taking a bit of a breather after 8 months of the count-down.
AlbaFan has indicated a change of thread title will be fine, so I'm going to go that route so that all the ground we covered will still be at everyone's fingertips. And Joe Rockhead had some good suggestions, I thought (a few posts above).
Rest assured I haven't dropped it all.
For the moment, though, here's a few Spanish tidbits to whet the appetite...Anyone have any background on these?

More to come...quite soon.

Hey man, I know you've been taking a break. That's just me being melancholy and melodramatic.

I notice your Randy Newman sig there. Do you know his stuff from a little known movie called Avalon? Great stuff. Just tear your heart out score.

I have that score, sure. Beautiful stuff. I think the only one I'm missing is "The Natural."

I first heard Randy Newman when the Norman Lear movie "Cold Turkey" (starring Dick Van Dyke) was broadcast on CBS around 1973.
Newman's sad, atheistic anthem "He Gives Us All His Love" was used on the opening credits. I was only 8, so I didn't understand satire, but I loved the music and the voice. Timeless.
The next time I saw him was on "Saturday Night Live" in 1977 doing "Short People." Amazing how many people took a satirical song about prejudice so seriously. I picked up the LP of "Little Criminals" and gradually collected everything else he'd done.
I'm glad he's enjoyed such great success writing film scores the past 20 years, but I sure wish he'd released just a few more regular albums. After 1988's "Land of Dreams," that was it for a looong time. "Bad Love" came out in 1999, and who knows if there will be any more. :csad:
I was glad to see him finally win an Academy Award after so many nominations.
There's a new song of his on YouTube called "A Few Words In Defense of Our Country." It's pretty tough, but it's classic Newman.

The lyrics ran as a New York Times Op-Ed piece, I believe.

And one of the most moving Newman songs I've ever heard/seen was this PBS tribute to Fred Rogers that uses Bonnie Raitt's version of "Feels Like Home To Me" from Newman's "Faust" album.
It will absolutely tear your heart right out:

To keep this on topic, I did once hear Randy Newman mention that he enjoyed Marvel comics in his youth. ;)

ah topic shmopic (which reminds me of a Harry Nillson CD I have)...you and I are the only ones on here right now. But anyway, if you don't have the Natural that's the one to get. It shows he can do power and majesty, not just the sentimental stuff. It also shows that it has staying power. There's probably not a major league club that doesn't use it in their park at one time or other.

I'd really like to see that Fred Rogers tribute.

Ah, Doctor Death, Doom's less well-known Spanish cousin. :cwink: What does it say under him? "The Day of Death"? I'm sort of glad that here the Finnish translators showed a good amount of discretion and Doom's name was not among those translated. Unfortunately SHIELD was not so lucky. They simply translated "Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-enforcement Division" directly, which resulted in the meaningless acronym YPKVV. SWORD in Astonishing X-Men suffered the same fate.

From the list of creative talent, I'd have to think that has to be stuff from Doctor Doom's half of the Astonishing Tales title. Interesting find.
