Filming in Cleveland?

Well, if I can get off on one of the days there are shooting I could be able to see what there are up to in cleveland.

Hopefully, there are even if i cant because Cleveland could use the money.

On a side note. Go Cleveland Indians.

Well, I live about 3-4 hours south of Cleveland, but I know I won't be able to catch them filming, and that makes me angry. (You wouldn;t like me when I'm angry....")

Whats that supposed to mean?

I was just supporting my team not saying thet were going to win the world series or anything.

Though I think that will be a dangerous team because they have talent.:o

What do you make of this Cleveland shoot Retro?
I think it's 2nd unit stuff. Cleveland must have something NY doesn't have. Something unique.

nice people:confused: just a guess, since being a New Yorker, we are anything but nice(or anything to do with nice), the majority anyways. maybe its more pleasant there in cleveland? who knows.

Well like Doc Descruction pointed out they just built that curved building which looks interesting...maybe that is what they wanna film.

From the looks of those pictures provided of Cleveland, it looks like there is a lot of room to move withing those skyscrapers, perhaps aerial shots are going to take place, or more use of the SpyderCam...

UPDATE

I think Redisnotblue can jump for joy (and all the fans who live in Cleveland).;) :)

From the Hype! mainpage...

Meanwhile, COSE has released this interesting announcement:

The Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE), the small business arm of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, today announced that it will partner with Greater Cleveland's Film Commission and "Spider-Man 3" to steer sales to Cleveland businesses.

"The package assembled by COSE and Greater Cleveland's Film Commission is impressive," said Peter Martorano, location manager for "Spider-Man 3". "Cleveland has really embraced this production. The discount program will help the cast and crew take advantage of all the things that Cleveland has to offer and it will encourage us to concentrate our spending with Cleveland companies -- from sign makers to grocers to lumber suppliers."

Participating retailers and businesses will offer the film's cast, crew and production team discounts at Downtown, University Circle, Little Italy and Tremont retailers. COSE will issue special "Spider-Man 3" stickers for display in the windows of merchants participating in the discount program and the merchants will be included in a directory that will be available to the cast and crew. COSE will also distribute discount cards to the production's cast and crew that can be used in participating shops, restaurants, entertainment venues and businesses for a 10 percent discount. Design work for the stickers and discount cards was done pro bono by Adcom Communications.

"We're excited that COSE members will be able to play a role in supporting this major Hollywood production," said Steve Millard, executive director of COSE. "Cleveland's small businesses stand to gain tremendously in the short term. And our hope is that we will make a positive impression on Hollywood decision makers and by showing Cleveland's willingness to work with film productions, Cleveland will be selected as the site for more films."

COSE has also assembled a team to assist the film's procurement staff in securing construction materials, props, costumes, equipment and other items that will be used during the fifteen days the production will be in downtown Cleveland. COSE staff is already working with props, procurement, set construction and costume crewmembers from "Spider-Man 3" to ascertain and anticipate their needs. Many items used by the crew and production team will be purchased or rented in Cleveland.

In the next couple of days, COSE members in Downtown, University Circle, Little Italy and Tremont will be notified by letter about the program. Merchants interested in participating in the program can contact Richard Rivera at (216) 592-2561.

COSE, the small business arm of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, serves as a one-stop resource for its members by providing: group-purchasing programs that reduce the cost of doing business; education and development programs for small- and mid-sized businesses; advocacy on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the business community; a wide range of resources focused on helping firms grow; and economic development partners that can address business concerns. Yes. Time and date please.

To think I'm four hours away from possibly seeing Black Spidey in the flesh. I'd hump Maguire's leg.

Indeed.

Anyway, it's about time something exciting happened to Ohio. Now all I need is for WB to get it's ass over here for the Batman sequel :o:up:.

Are they EVER going to shoot that sequel? I mean, it sounds like they are gonna do it (of course) but they have no freakin' plan whatsoever.

what could cleveland have that New York doesn't? New York has tons of awesome landmarks that they can used, more things then cleveland, not to knock cleveland. Lordofthenerds is right, they have enough money to film in New York. it just doesn't make sense. with each villian, you can have spidey fight them at different landmarks. i think they should use at least 2 landmarks from the city.(New York that is)

Sometimes there are things you can simply do more easily in a smaller city as far as cordoning off more streets or entire blocks than you can in New York due to population density, street traffic and crowd control issues. For example, John Carpenter filmed some of Escape From New York in St. Louis, because it was much easier to get near complete control of several streets - particularly for nighttime filming.

Update on Cleveland filming:

Read this in today's Plain Dealer. Obviously a lot less ambitious than the COSO blurb made it appear. In a nutshell:

Cleveland was chosen because it's cheaper to close down streets here than in New York;the ability to use vacant space in the Cleveland Convention Center; buildings from the late 1800's mimic New York buildings of the same era, and lots of old vacant office space that can supply office space and headquarters for the filming.

The shoot will begin in early April and last 7-10 days.

It will be a small second unit crew that will shoot action shots that don't involve the entire cast. It is doubtful that Maguire and Dunst will be here.

The filming will be along Euclid Avenue between east 9th Street and Public Square. (For folks unfamiliar with Cleveland, Euclid is pretty well the main drag downtown). While there are only a few tall buildings, special efects teams can extend the tops of existing buildings using CGI.

My guess is that the scene(s) will be of one of the villains creating general mayham and panic. Shutting down Euclid and filling it with police cars and screaming extras will create the impression of a city under seige. I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas Hayden Church made it to downtown, but it doesn't sound like any of the rest of the primary cast will, and probably not even Raimi.

Yep just saw it on the news, said it was early april when they are shooting. Cool

Pictures would be lovely this time. Hopefully you Clevelanders will get the job done!

Hmm so it seems they are going to be doing some real filming there. It makes sense because it would save them some dough.

I actually live in the city of Cleveland and I'll try to get down town but doubt i will. Now why would they choose Cleveland? I'm not sure, but it has to be exspensive to film on the streets of New York so maybe they would do it in Cleveland. I know Cleveland isn't is big as NY but for street level scenes it would work. As for what does Cleveland have that NY doesn't? Well we do have polluted rivers and a giant polluted lake.Other then that I don't know I'll try to be there when their shooting.
