While Furness is preparing for the film, sources say her Hollywood heavyweight husband is getting closer to making major announcements about his next film, Wolverine.

The strong word is Wolverine will be filmed in Sydney and New Zealand.
Production is tipped to begin before the end of the year. Jackman is filming Australia, alongside Nicole Kidman.

Thanks narrows.
I know Jackman is a family man and wants to stay closer to home but to me it feels odd to shoot Wolverine down under. For one the character's origins are in Canada and also all the X-Men movies so far have been shot there.

If this goes through i'm guessing that the studio work would be done in Australia and the location shots in NZ?

Hugh has always said that once his son started school, their "globe-trotting" would have to change since he doesn't like being separated from the family for too long (they always travel with him) and he wanted his son to have some stability while going to school (his son is 7). I suspect that's one reason, plus his wife is also filming a movie in Australia around the same (as mentioned in the story). That's one of the reasons he started his production company, so he has some control over filming locations, and his company is one of the producers of the movie.

Ah thanks for the info, well that explains the move. Bad news for the guilds in Hollywood North though. The X-Men franchise had become such a fixture up there.

I'm just guessing that those are the reasons since I remember Hugh saying the part about his son, and he said it's also one of the reasons why he started the production company in an interview, and it makes sense to me. Plus if "Australia" needs reshoots, he won't be far away. It will be interesting to see what's reported when the announcement is official, or if any reason is given at all.

Good call. I didn't think of that.

Sounds like it might be soon - "Australia" filming has moved back to Fox Studios from the Outback so he's in Sydney and filming I think wraps up at the end of the month - give or take (don't know the exact date but this is the last location). They've been filming this since the end of April!

Progress on the as-yet-untitled Wolverine film is moving forward at full steam ahead following the recent confirmation of Gavin Hood as the project's director - just recently, an inside source let drop to us the fact that production has reached the prepping stage, readying themselves to get Hugh Jackman back before cameras as the claw-wielding mutant in November! And although previous X-Men movies have been filmed in Vancouver, Wolverine will be shot almost across the world (well, an ocean) in Sydney, Australia.

Stay tuned to the site for more updates and the latest news on Wolverine and other films in the X-Men movie universe!

Hugh's a big star now, and one that didn't forget where he came from or more to the point the role that gave him a major career. It's good that he's still proud to be Wolverine and didn't become all artsy and with the mentality that "i'm too big a star now to continue playing a comic book character" and I'm sure his agent told him to ditch Wolverine and not become typecast. Could be wrong, but i know enough about hollywood to see his agent telling him that. Anyway it matters little to me where they shoot wolverine, my hope is that the movie delivers and from the sounds of things it should.

I still hate that the Xfilms are no more. They just never reached their full potential and we never got to see some of the other popular mutants from the titles, especially some different villians. d@mn FOX, they will never give those rites back to Marvel, but will hold on to them, knowing they will not make another xfilm.

Sweet! I live in Australia, and my cousin works at Fox studio, so hopefully she'll be able to give me details about the film. Yes!

Give it another 3 years and things may start to happen.

Have your cousin keep a lookout for Hugh - the filming of "Australia" has moved back to Fox Studios so he'll be there for a bit.

Hugh hosted the APEC gala on Saturday - here's a picture from the event. He still has his beard and haircut for his look in "Australia" since they are still filming and presumably the look won't change for the tail-end of filming - wonder if he will keep the hair/beard to segue into "Wolverine" or if he will shave/cut any of it if there's any downtime between the two movies.

I'm sure that CGI can help make mountainous, snowy landscapes closer to Canada..

Yeah, New Zealand can make a good replacement for snowy Canada! I thought about it, when I heard Hugh would like to shoot in Australia, since the two countries are not that far.
And I'm sure "Wolverine" will need some snowy mountains...you can't make a Canadian mutant movie without them! :D

Yeah he's been filming AUSTRALIA since the end of April, but this event was on Saturday night and I think he flew out from Kununurra in the Outback on Thursday in a private jet. Who knows, maybe the kids kept him up all night LOL. It's better than when he hosted and sang at the Red Ball event in Melbourne last month (charity he and his wife are patrons of) - that also was on a Saturday night, and that morning he flew commercial from Kununurra-Broome-Perth-Melbourne, changing planes three times, and then he had to rehearse and perform that same night!

I'm pumped! So I haven't seen any cast confirmations to go with the shooting...strange? In any sense I'm still excited!

Wow...any idea what the in-flight movie was? haha...I don't even know my own travel plans for my next vacation as well as that. :oldrazz:

Scary isn't it? Sometime some of these Hugh-minutia details just stick in my head.... meanwhile ask me what I ate last night LOL....

The following tidbit on Wolverine was mentioned in a report on the biggest superman fansite on the web, the Superman Homepage. The webmaster is based in Sydney Australia.

September 10, 2007: Justice League Movie Starts Filming in Sydney in February

The Superman Homepage has received word from an inside source at Fox Studios who confirms that the Justice League movie will indeed be filming at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia.

George Miller is directing, with auditions taking place in Sydney for various roles starting this week.

Baz Luhrmann's "Australia" movie will finish up filming in October/November, with the "Wolverine" film set to move in to Fox Studios from November to February, and then the Justice League movie will take residence there from February to June.

The Justice League movie is reportedly set down for a 2010 cinematic release (but that may be an Australian release date, as other sites claim the movie is set down for a U.S. summer 2009 release).

Looks like Hugh is going to be spending the next six months at Fox Studios. He wasn't kidding when he said last year he was going to be spending a year in Australia - he's been there since March.

He has a great start on the hair/muttonchops.

Not to mention the arms and chest - he does work out every morning.

He won't have the free time he wanted for the Wolverine work out - 4 months he said? - so he better increase his morning work outs. I want my Wolverine pumped! :wolverine
Hehe, poor Hugh... :D

He's been working out every morning since April (and who knows if before that) before he goes to the "Australia" set and from the recent pics I've seen he looks pumped to me!
