Final Crisis: Revelations

And comics fans are pushing the "this won't be the final Crisis" canard even harder. Everyone acts like it's such a foregone conclusion that "Final" is ********, but when, exactly, have either of the two companies done a "Final _____" story that wasn't actually the final ______? I can think of The Last Avengers Story and all of those, but those weren't ever purported to really be the last ones. They're only saying it'll be the final Crisis with a capital-C, not the final crisis in general. It's not like they're saying that nothing bad will ever happen again in the DCU. Seriously, people, it's getting old. Shut the **** up with that stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. The original, pre-COIE Supergirl reappeared after being wiped from existence, so the possibly-wiped Linda definitely has a chance.

DiDio says she's been retconned out of continuity, but Johns said she's still in.

Plus, she's one of the few characters who's aware of the original Crisis (although not a participant in it).

Peter David took her over to IDW.

Fine, but it's a silly critique of a story. It's based on nothing but the name, and the logical presupposition of it is that a story called Final Crisis should be not only the final Crisis, but the final story, ever.

I don't really care. I just saw a perfect opportunity to say something funny.

know what makes it even funnier? imagining james spader say it as alan shore...

Morrison's been moving away from that paradigm for awhile though. In fact, aside from his JLA and New X-Men, he was never really into that paradigm. He does his best work with characters that nobody else has done much with, blank slates, or partially blank slates.

Disagree he's equally at home with both IMO. And I'd to your examples the FF, Batman and All Star Supes.

It's just an inherent feeling I have that dc's "best" should be in their big event (especially after how poorly he was used in the last crisis). I just always think if its the big big event it should show the best and superman is the best.

I honestly can't think of when that would have been. I'm a big Morrison fan, I think I'd know.

But gildea, just because he's writing Batman and Superman, it doesn't mean he uses the biggest-and-baddest mentality. In one issue of Batman, Batman was basically a bit player. In most issues, Morrison spends more time developing other aspects of the mythos than he does on Batman himself. Same with ASS.

On the other hand, his depiction of just about everyone in JLA was bigger, brighter, and more badass than almost any other portrayal.

*still harbours the feeble hope of Linda Danvers reappearance*

Does that feeble hope include her beating Kara out of existence? Because if so then I totally share that hope

Oh right, I do remember that. Never read it. The FF are so interminably boring as characters to me.

Oh, I never read it. What was it about?

Some plan by Doom to destroy the FF, Reed's off in his think tank, and Sue's feeling lonely and goes and cries on Namor's shoulder, and Johnny and Ben were doing something. I forget. But in the end Reed figures out Doom's plan, saves the city, and makes out with his woman.

Wow, even Morrison couldn't come up with a way to make the Fantastic Four interesting.

You really need to get off that high horse of yours. You'll bump your head.

Didn't you just describe about 60% of the Fantastic Four's adventures?

I honestly can't think of when that would have been. I'm a big Morrison fan, I think I'd know.

read it, it's very good.

(ah egads it's been mentioned).

Oh I don't mean "biggest and baddest" per se (though from what i typed it's a perfectly reasonable inference). It's just IMO (and thats all it is) dcs big events should feature there big characters, I want to see how superman reacts to the new gods kicking up **** on earth and how he deals with it. He is considered the DC's brightest star, when it hits the fan he should be there, not off in his own mini. That was one of my issues with the last crisis he spent most of it moping and then just turned up with some heavy dialogue that didn't stem from his plot at all (I am aware tha morrion is better than this though).

It's not so much about being the biggest and baddest it just well, "this seems like a job for Superman".

NB
(I am aware that it will be undoubtly brilliant (assuming morrison gets to write morrisons story) and beautifully drawn JONES SEQUENTIALS ROCK!!)

Didn't you just describe about 60% of the Fantastic Four's adventures?

I could do the same for Superman or Batman, or pretty much any superhero ever created, doesn't make it any less of a good story. Sometimes it ain't about the formula, It's all in the delivery.

But it's the equivalent of if Morrison took Batman and just put him up against the Joker, flashed back to his training and his parents' death, brought back a mysterious female from his past, and had Batman in conflict with an evil mirror image of himself. Morrison doesn't do the easy thing.
