well I wouldnt say all of the scientific books have come from the west but... when was the last scientific breakthrough to come out of the midde east? Obviously monarchy's and theocracies arent conducive to science.

Yeah that was a couple centuries ago, things change, what matters is who is winning the knowledge war now. Thousands of years ago Greece was a super power, that doesn't have any affect on their current status. I heard Spain produces as many books as the entire Islamic world does in a year, look at any UN report you will see the Islamic world is sorely lacking in the west when you compare education systems, technology, etc. Presently the West is really ahead of the Islamic world in terms of education and science, not to mention social policy (name one Islamic country that allows gay rights marches), so what their status was a few centuries ago is meaningless in today's reality.
