I wonder why so few people accept that it could do not as well as anticipated. Hulk is similiar to Superman in terms of popularity. SUPERMAN FANS overestimate the selling power of Superman and are greatly underestimating POTC.

4) The novelization is good

5) It's Superman!

6) The marketing is finally good: merchandise everywhere, pepsi promotion to start tomorrow, etc. etc.....

So is Joel Shumacher. Peter Jackson is twice the director Singer is. Kong didn't do hot.

2) The budget is great

3) The movie is long

So were Kong and Hulk.

4) The novelization is good

Arguable.

5) It's Superman!

King Kong is King Kong. Hulk is Hulk. Being an icon does not guaruntee success.

6) The marketing is finally good: merchandise everywhere, pepsi promotion to start tomorrow, etc. etc.....

Poseidon had great marketing. Look how that turned out.

Again, perspective. I have never seen an audience stand up and cheer for a trailer. I am willing to bet money that these "crowd reports" are overexaggerated.

As a Hulk fan, I'd still definatly say Superman is inherently MORE POPULER and cherished by people world wide. More of a positive role model for normal people than an 8ft, 1400 lbs. of an anger bomb with a pulse.

Still, Hulk is a huge icon...that has popularity among the general public from the TV series. The point is, even icons can fail (or at least not do as well as expected)...

If anything, Hulk's status as an icon hurt him. The general public's perception of him (a 6 foot tall, Lou Ferrigno-esque muscleman)...turned many of them off from Ang Lee's take.

there is quite a bit more invested in this movie than FF. As pointed out by Hulk....this movie can be a success and yet at the same time very much so be a failure.
