Iron Fist Finn Jones IS Danny Rand / Iron Fist

While I'd like the actor playing Iron Fist to have some Chinese Martial Arts experience, so that they move like they know what they are doing, I can understand why it wouldn't be a priority. It's easier to make a good actor with no fighting experience look like a good martial artist on screen, than make a good martial artist with no acting experience into a good actor.

Sure x guys may not have much skills before being cast. But they will still go through fight training and stunt work with the stunt folks. And the actor is more then likely going to do some moves and stunts themselfs. And what they can't do or is deemed to dangerous the stunt guys will step in.

Would have been interesting to see if they made him at least half Asian. That being said, I don't care enough about the character to be upset either way.

What I hope going forward is that they introduce more prominent Asian characters in the Marvel movie universe. Can't think of a singe major Asian character in the MCU. We have Melinda May on AoS. I'm hoping they introduce Amadeus Cho in one of the movies though.

This is one of those roles for me were the actor absolutely has to look 100% convincing when performing the moves that he's taught, given the level that Iron-Fist is at.

Anyone have any clue as to whether Jones has any previous martial-arts training?

I wouldn't worry about that. Keanu Reeves didn't know anything about Kungfu before the matrix. Get a good mix of choreography, stunt work and editing and it should be fine.

Enter the badlands is a great example of those 3 elements working beautifully together.

In aos, Chloe Bennett and her character Quake are half asian, there was her mother too.
There will be Wong in Doctor Strange.
There will be Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

In smaller role, there was Morita from the Howling Commando in Cap 1 and one episode of Aos, and Hogun from the Warriors three in Thor 1 and 2.

Finn Jones will be trained, in Marco Polo(a tv show from Netflix) the actors had a lot of training, and Marvel is know for giving abs to all of his main character. And thanks to mask and the stunt double, he will look very good.

Other than Wong and I guess Quake, the rest are kinda scraping the bottom of the barrel. I'll wait and see with Mantis. There is alot of versions that have her green like Gamorra. You can't celebrate an Asian casting then cover up her skin.
Would be nice to see her like this -

But were most likely going to get this -

Not fussed either way. There are alot of Asian characters awaiting to be used.
Would love to see Hogun get more air time but I can't see that happening. Misty Knight in Luke Cage could open the door for Coleen Wing. Hopefully we'll see Shang Chi also. Maybe he could be a Shield Agent or something.

Yes, let's make all the Asians boring SHIELD agents. :o

Well since rand is a little asaian what is it from one of his grandparents side or something even casting a totally white guy they could still add that element from the books.

I wouldn't call Mockingbird boring, but each to his own. I guess, making him some random martial arts guy would make more sense?

Did you miss my other choices of Coleen Wing and Amadeus Cho? I didn't suggest they be Shield agents.

Finn showed he handled the fighting on GoT pretty well. I have no doubt of his ability to, with the help of the stunt team, wow us. I am actually wondering about Danny's "accent" or the general manner of speaking. Though that depends on the type of origin they give him in the Netflix show.

He may be british or what not but he likely will speak in an american acccent. No different then charlie cox and other the mcu have cast who are not american playing an american character.

The character is half-Vietnamese, so...what difference does it make? It's still giving a prominent role to an Asian character and actress.

i wonder why they took so long to officially comment on it.

That's a pretty dope beard lol. Personality wise alone I think he's going to nail it.

it's very much in line with the current depiction of Danny in the new 'Powerman & Iron Fist' book.

That's a little too over the top for Iron Fist though. It works for that book, but I'd like to see a cross of Danny from the original series, Immortal Iron Fist and the new PM/IF book. You have to balance the humor and seriousness for someone like him. Def more lighthearted and fun than Daredevil, but remember that he also is supposed to be a kickass martial artist who trained rigorously.

Luke/Danny bromance in the Defenders will be amazing tho.

The accent thing would be less about him being a Brit, but more about how they present Danny as a character. Remember, if they follow the comic origin he was taken into the Mystical City as a really young kid. Just saying, there would be a justification for a NON American accent. If anything him still having an American accent would be odder than him having another way of speaking.

Finn talks more about the role. There's a bit more in the article, but these are the highlights. (http://www.ew.com/article/2016/04/12/finn-jones-iron-training)

I love the character. What really drew me was the character and the story. I really enjoy how he’s a superhero with a real heart but has spiritual elements as well. I think it’s going to be an exciting character to play because there’s this contraction of on one hand he’s from a very wealthy family, he’s a billionaire, on the other hand he’s been in this world of K’un-Lun for a long time where he’s learned kung fu and buddhist philosophy. There’s a contradiction in those elements that’s going to be really fun to play.

When asked if he's tried the costume on yet

No. At the moment I’m in the physical preparation for the role. Every day for the last month, I start my day with about two and a half hours of martial arts – which is kung fu and wushu mixed with a bit of tai chi, and other stuff as well. In the afternoon I’ll do weight training with a trainer to bulk me up and get my physically right for the part. And in evenings I’ve been doing meditation classes and learning buddhist philosophies.

Glad to hear Finn is taking the prep real seriously. This is going to be awesome.

He's fine for the part, but this is one of those times where a racialbend would have been better IMO. The whole "Mighty Whitey" trope has been so overplayed in live-action (not a degrading term BTW, look up what it means on tvtropes.com).

Either way, he's a good pick.

Not a day goes by without someone having to remind everyone that this whole Mighty Whitey trope has been so overplayed etc. etc.

how long until we stop hearing complaints about the fact that Danny is white?
