Fire and Ice live action remake by Robert Rodriguez

Update on the film: http://www.austinchronicle.com/blog...obert-rodriguez-future-plans-future-projects/

For a lot of film fans, Sin City is Rodriguez's greatest cinematic achievement. So they may want to hang on to their helmets for the big reveal from the day: Early test footage and concept art from Fire and Ice, the epic sword and sorcery creation of legendary fantasy artist Frank Frazetta. Rodriguez is an unabashed and unapologetic advocate for the master of pulchritudinous prehistoric princesses and flesh-rending barbarians, even getting Frazetta to produce a poster for the original From Dusk Till Dawn. He got Frazetta's approval back before the artist died in 2010, and has been working openly on this project since 2011.
Rodriguez was very complimentary about the 1983 animated movie by Ralph Bakshi, for which Frazetta not only provided the germ of the original story but also helped choreograph some of the action sequences. However, what Rodriguez showed off in this brief taster was much more epic in scale, with thousands of Frazetta's trademark ape men streaming across an endless bridge into battle, and jagged sorcerously-created glaciers bearing down on green forests. According to Rodriguez, he wants to create the feeling of stepping into Frazetta's lush, fluid and violent world, much like Sin City brought two-fisted life to Miller's drizzle-soaked streets.
Ultimately, it's all about paying tribute to Frazetta's artwork, and back during SXSW 2012, Rodriguez discussed his plan to move the entire Frank Frazetta Museum to a brick-and-mortar location in Austin. That plan may still be a way away, but there was a teaser with the display of 10 original Frazetta pieces, including Death Dealer, Death Dealer 2, and Swamp Demon. Rodriguez's aim was to shock people out of the idea that the artist was just a schlocky fantasy guy, and show them the amazing technique he put into works like Moon Maid.

I really hope he gets to do this.

This rub some of Robert's fans here the wrong way, but finally he can start making movies again. This and Sin City 2.

Really loved the atmosphere of the piece! It's like the world is a perfect blend of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Pellucidar and Robert E. Howard's Hyboria! I'm also thrilled that this seems like it will have even more Frazetta-inspired creatures!!

Hehe I liked how they used the Dark Knight's score for it.

Also, I've often wonder if Robert is going bald. If it's not a cowboy hat, it' a cap.

I thought I was Robert's last fan for a while and I totally agree that he hasn't made a real movie in a long time. He was turning into B-action George Lucas.

The good news is that he's going to film in 2014. Real movement.

It's also great to hear that The Death Dealer might appear in the film!

I'm hoping we're at the point where the green screen doesn't make it feel claustrophobic. When the characters are 'outside', hopefully it'll feel like they're outside, not in some soundstage.

I know I'm gonna get rapped on the mouth for this but I don't care... Snyder in MOS proved just how textured and real a film can be presented as with today's green screen VFX. If Robert were looking for a template of how to make F&I for a modern audience he could do worse than hit Snyder up for some advice.

Done in an MOS manner I think Robert could give us something great. My only reservation is that if he pulls this off, it will most likely be a far better film than Arnold's Conan send-off film. Say... Why not Robert for THAT gig?

This should be rated R. Boobs everywhere! It's like making Heavy Metal movie rated PG.

Well, the original one was PG, but I was looking forward to an R-rated take with Rodriguez being behind the camera. Then again, it is a bigger-than-life fantasy sword & sorcery film aimed at youngsters, and an R-rating probably would limit the attendance.

With Sin City: ADTKF just around the corner, and hopefully a hit, maybe RR will resume talking/ teasing more on Fire and Ice soon.

It was PG by the ways of the 80's, and PG-13 didn't exist yet.

Robert needs to get off his butt. His work ethic comes in waves. In between the waves..he gets stagnant.

Well, the good thing is that he has really been pimping the Frazetta galleries.
