A re-imagining of the 1992-released Fire Emblem Gaiden.

Fire-Emblem-Echoes-Ann-3DS.jpg

Nintendo has announced Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia for 3DS. It will launch on May 19.

The game is inspired by Fire Emblem Gaiden, which released exclusively in Japan in 1992 and helped to define the series’ signature style.

Shadows of Valentia re-imagines Gaiden on a grander scale. It features dual protagonists, Alm and Celica, who join others locked in a tragic war dividing the continent of Valentia.

The game offers free-roaming, dungeons crawling with enemies, flexible character progression, and everything that made Fire Emblem Gaiden unique. It promises “classic Fire Emblem gameplay with a twist.”
Amiibo figures of Alm and Celica will launch day and date with the game.
Here’s the full press release summary from Nintendo:
In 1992, the second game in the Fire Emblem series, Fire Emblem Gaiden, launched exclusively in Japan. Now, for the first time, fans outside of Japan will get a taste of this classic game on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is inspired by the 1992 original, reimagined on a grander scale. Every aspect of the Fire Emblem Gaiden game’s presentation has been updated, along with the game being fully voiced. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia recreates classic Fire Emblem gameplay with a modern twist, mixing in exploration of dungeons crawling with enemies. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will launch on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems May 19. Characters from the game, Alm and Celica, will be available as amiibo figures in a two-pack, also on May 19.

We recently got to check out the first English screenshots for Fire Emblem Echoes, and it appears that the game will only be available with English voiceovers when it releases in the West this May.

The information comes from Nintendo UK’s official page for Fire Emblem Heroes: Shadows of Valentia, where they share some information on the classic recreation of Fire Emblem Gaiden from 1992.

It talks about the dual protagonists Alm and Celia who will join others locked in a tragic war dividing the continent of Valentia, with conflicts coming to life in cut scenes created by Studio Khara, and every line of dialogue has been fully voiced. There’s an added note underneath that last bit saying “Please note that this game will be available only with English voiceover.”

That said, Fire Emblem Echoes will basically just follow what we’ve seen in previous entries without the option of Japanese voiceovers, so it isn’t really a big surprise there.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia releases in Japan on April 20, North America and Europe on May 19, 2017 for Nintendo 3DS.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia Amiibos May Unlock A Special Dungeon In-Game. February 16, 2017 . 8:30am

Thanks to a listing over on Amazon Japan for the amiibos, it lists the Alm and Celica figures as having the ability to unlock an extra dungeon in the game.

Last month, Nintendo revealed that Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia would be releasing for the Nintendo 3DS. Two amiibos were also announced that could be used in conjunction with the game in the form of Alm and Celica figures. Now, we may have learned what exactly the amiibos will unlock within the game itself. [Thanks, SerenesForest.]

Thanks to a listing over on Amazon Japan for the amiibos, it lists them as having the ability to unlock an extra dungeon in the game. However, not many details were given, and there is no way of telling as of now whether that means that each figure will unlock a separate dungeon or if they will both unlock the same one.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden and will feature dungeons with enemy encounters, free roaming, and flexible character progression.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will release in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS on April 20th and internationally on May 19th, 2017.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia Brings Big Changes. March 13, 2017 . 12:30pm

Fire Emblem Echoes will see a myriad of changes, including the absence of the weapon wheel, mages who must expend health to cast spells, and more.

112 comments Read >

During this year’s PAX East, lots of new information was revealed about Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia, the reimagining of Fire Emblem Gaiden. A handful of new screenshots were shared, as well. [Thanks, GameSpot.]

In Fire Emblem Echoes, a world map will allow you some additional freedom to the game, as opposed to simply traveling from mission to mission. Dungeons can be accessed via the map and these areas abandon the top-down camera view, instead allowing you to explore through them in 3D and third-person. Engaging in battle in these dungeons takes you to the standard Fire Emblem battle, though you still have access to your squad and face multiple enemies as opposed to just a one-on-one fight. Also notable is the fact that Echoes is the first Fire Emblem game featuring full voice acting, excluding some very minor characters.

More changes in Echoes include the fact that archers have the ability to counter-attack from a single tile away, giving you more options in combat. Mages also expend a bit of their health to allow them to cast spells, forcing players to be a little more tactical with how they play.

Gamespot also noted that weapon durability is also not present in Echoes, as well as the support system during battles. Lastly, the weapon wheel does not exist in Echoes. However, there will be ways to gain an advantage in battles, though more detail on this was not shared.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has new information on Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

Get the information below.
System

  • Difficulty Settings – When you start the game, you can select between “Normal” and “Hard” difficulty settings. There are also two types of battle rules, including “Classic” where allies who’ve been defeated can’t be revived, and “Casual,” where they can be revived once the map is cleared.
  • Mila’s Gear – If you use it during battle, you can rewind the movements of your units one at a time. There is a limit to the amount of times you can use it, though, so don’t abuse it.
Battle

  • Terrain Effects – There is no weapon affinity in this game, but terrain effects are important. In forests, for example, the enemy’s hit rate drops 40 percent.
  • Magic – Magic disregards terrain effects, but it’s not good to use excessively since you lose HP when you attack with magic.
Characters

  • Berkut (voiced by Tatsuhisa Suzuki) – The Rigel Emperor’s nephew and a noble who stresses the importance of his social status. He provokes Desaix’s betrayal and leads the Zophia Kingdom coup d’etat.
  • Effie (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki) – Alm’s childhood friend. She joins the liberation army with the intent of staying close to Alm. Her starting class is Villager.
  • Silque (not a new character, voiced by Yuka Inokuchi) – She is saved by Alm after being captured by thieves, and entrusts him with “Mila’s Gear.” Her starting class is Cleric.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is due out for 3DS on April 20 in Japan and May 19 in North America and Europe.
Thanks, Famitsu and Hachima Kikou.

Fire Emblem Echoes’ Timeline Goes Back 3,000 Years Before The Story . March 16, 2017 . 8:30am

Fire Emblem Echoes’ official Japanese site was recently updated which includes a timeline that gives more backstory behind the game’s Rigelian and Zofian war.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia’s official Japanese website was recently updated, adding tons of new information about the upcoming 3DS reimagining of Fire Emblem Gaiden. Among that new information was a timeline looking back 3,000 years into the game’s timeline.

Here’s a look at a translation of the timeline which gives more backstory behind the Rigelian and Zofian war, courtesy of SerenesForest.
Approximately 3000 years before the story

At the land of Valentia, the sibling gods Duma and Mila went to war. At the end of an arduous battle, Duma and Mila divided Valentia into two, the north ruled by Duma and the south ruled by Mila, with the two declaring to never invade the other. This was the covenant of the gods.

Year 1: A sage with knowledge of the celestial bodies’ motions introduced the notion of a calendar system to Mila, who acknowledged it. This year was chosen as the first year of the Valentia Calendar.

Year 189: The Rigelian Empire was established in the northern region ruled by Duma and the Kingdom of Zofia was built on the southern lands ruled by Mila.

Year 374: The young Rudolf was appointed as the successor of the Rigelian Empire’s Emperor Rigel III. He ascended as Emperor Rudolf I.

Year 384: King Lima III of Zofia perished. Although his eldest son Lima IV was crowned, he had little interest in politics and the villainous Dozer secured the position of Chancellor.

Year 398: Poor harvests caused the food-stocks of the Rigelian Empire to run dry. Rigel’s request for assistance from Zofia were met with rejection. Rudolf I himself led the troops to invade Zofia. Rigel and Zofia entered all-out war.

Year 399: The inexperienced Zofian army were repeatedly defeated by the overwhelming Rigelian forces and Rigel steadily crept into Zofian territory. Desaix managed to contact the upper echelon of the Rigelian Army and negotiated a cease-fire in exchange for a large compensatory sum of gold. The Rigelian Army remained garrisoned in Northern Zofia and tensions continued to grow.

Year 400: Desaix triggered a coup d’etat, and the Zofian royal family including Lima IV were assassinated one after the other. The Deliverance was established by the Zofian nobility who opposed Desaix, with Clive as its leader.

In addition to the timeline, more information was shared about the Alm and Celica amiibos and how they would interact with the game. Previously, we had reported that the two amiibos would unlock a special dungeon in the game. However, Alm and Celica’s unit data can also be stored to their respective amiibo. Also, any type of amiibo can be scanned using the “Summon Amiibo” ability, which will then summon a “phantom warrior” into the game with stats dependant on the particular amiibo’s written data.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will release for the Nintendo 3DS on April 20th in Japan and on May 19th internationally.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Trailer Looks At Its Two Armies. April 3, 2017 . 11:00am

The latest Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia trailer goes over the two armies players will control, as well as notes how some battle elements and units may work differently here than in more modern Fire Emblem installments.

10 comments Read >

kAs_hq_HtacEcJVcrbdozgTJEIBmareI_thumb.jpg

In Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia, players are following two separate heroes as they see all sides of the story. Both Alm and Celica are attempting to unify Valentia. As a result, this means there are two armies under your control. The latest trailer offers a look at these forces by showing Alm’s Zofian Resistance and Celica’s forces.

After introducing the forces, the Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia trailer goes over some of the battle and gameplay elements that appear in this installment. For example, it shows the map with various battles that can be fought and towns that can be visited, as well as a glimpse at dungeon exploration. It notes that it is impossible to pair up units in this installment. It also shows how some units have changed, by showing how archers have variable ranges and even occasionally the ability to counterattack and mages’ spells can use up their health.

Fire Emblem Echoes retains more of a traditional gameplay style from the series but also gives you the option to choose between “Classic Mode” that has its characteristics perma-deaths, as well as a “Casual Mode” for players that are new to the series and don’t want to worry about permanently losing party members.

There’s also a new “Mila’s Gear” system that lets you rewind time in battle when things don’t work out as expected, but it does have limited uses so you’ll want to use it sparingly.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia releases in Japan on April 20 and globally on May 19, 2017 for Nintendo 3DS. Check out our previous report for a look at the game’s “Two Armies” trailer.

Nintendo has announced details of the five major post-launch downloadable content packs coming to Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia for 3DS.

The five downloadable content packs will add more maps, dungeons, and characters to the game. They can be purchased individually or together via a Season Pass (which will save you $6). All of the individual components included each pack can also be purchased separately.

Here’s the full overview, via Nintendo:

  • Season Pass (May 19, $44.99, 22 pieces of content): The Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Season Pass includes all five DLC packs as they release. By purchasing the Season Pass, fans who want to receive all DLC will save more than 30 percent compared to purchasing all 22 pieces of content on their own.

  • DLC Pack #1 – Fledgling Warriors Pack (May 19, $7.99, three pieces of content): Ideal for early- to mid-game adventurers, this pack includes a new dungeon (The Astral Temple) and two new maps, great for gaining more items, money and experience points.

  • DLC Pack #2 – Undaunted Heroes Pack (May 25, $9.99, three pieces of content): In addition to a new dungeon (The Inner Sanctum), this pack also includes two challenging new maps that stronger, more seasoned heroes will want to tackle.
  • DLC Pack #3 – Lost Altars Pack (May 25, $14.99, 10 pieces of content): The mysterious dungeons included in this pack hold the power to upgrade characters to exclusive classes that don’t appear in the main game.

  • DLC Pack #4 – Rise of the Deliverance Pack (June 1, $12.99, four pieces of content): Discover the previously untold history of Valentia in this Prologue pack. Complete with new story content and additional voice acting that details the rise of the Deliverance in Zofia, this collection of challenging maps includes new support conversations between selected heroes, as well as the ability to take command of a character players won’t be able to control in the main game.

  • DLC Pack #5 ($5.99, two pieces of content): More information about this final DLC pack will be revealed in the future.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is available now for 3DS in Japan, and will launch on May 19 in North America and Europe.

Fire Emblem Echoes To Likely Be The Series’ Last Mainline 3DS Entry . May 5, 2017 . 7:30am

Series producer Hitoshi Yamagami said in a recent interview that Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will likely be the last mainline entry for the Nintendo 3DS console.

It’s been a couple weeks since the Japanese release of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, the 3DS remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, which has been doing pretty well in sales last we saw.

While we’re still waiting on several Fire Emblem titles down the line with Fire Emblem Warriors and a new entry scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch next year, series producer Hitoshi Yamagami said in the latest issue of Dengeki Nintendo that it’ll likely be the last mainline Fire Emblem game on 3DS. [Thanks, Japanese Nintendo.]

Fire Emblem Echoes will become the third game from the series on 3DS following Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates. Fire Emblem Warriors will also release in a 3DS version alongside its Switch version, but this tells us that Intelligent Systems is ready to move on.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia releases in North America and Europe on May 19, 2017 for Nintendo 3DS.
