The fact Gates is leaving leads me to believe Kate will become Captain, but I worry this could hurt the shows dynamic and it also makes me wonder if Stana wanted the switch to work less with Fillion?

Those rumours have been going on for years, since the beginning of Season 4 pretty much. I doubt Stana would have resigned for Season 8 if her and Nathan didn't like each other. Lots of guest stars and their main co-stars have made comments on social media/interviews over the years that those rumours are totally false.

I see. It would be dumb if they split Castle and Beckett up, especially since they're married now. There's no point in that when the show seems like it could soon end anyway. The last episode of Season 7 seemed like it could've been a satisfying end to the series.

It wouldn't be a dumb move, it would be an utterly stupid one and if he was talking about Castle then it will kill the show. They've shown that they are able to decently write them as a couple, so to split them up would be nothing but shock value and not needed or wanted.

If true, all it does is squander years of buildup and chemistry and kills the heart of the show.

As far as the blind item thing goes, I've seen quite a lot of speculation that it's Bones, not Castle they are talking about.

It probably stems from older shows like Hart to Hart and Moonlighting, that were built on the lovey dovey chemistry of the leads even though to many's surprise the two leads didn't get along off screen. Someone probably applied that to Castle and made the story up.

Yeah, I think a lot of that comes from Nathan's speeches at award shows. but it could be part of the act. Also, Bones has been on longer. so the blind item could easily be them.

He basically acted like he was the big star at People's Choice a couple years ago saying they had the good sense to vote for HIM, and they showed Stana looking like she wanted to clobber him. but like I said could have been part of the act.

From our perspective, Castle and Beckett have barely been married a year.

Bones is almost certainly the most likely one to split given they very nearly did that during the last half of this season. It's also possible it's another series as well although I can't think of one off hand.

Splitting Castle and Beckett would be a more difficult one to justify since they have been a couple for longer and have a more solid relationship. After everything they've been though it wouldn't make sense to split them now (though the same can be said of Bones, the entire gambling addiction story seemed far-fetched as it was portrayed).

Kate becomes a Captain and with PJJ gone, it's safe to assume she's taking the 12th's captaincy. Could be really intriguing to see how they have the Castle/Beckett crime solving continue if she's behind a desk now. Is Castle PI back or is the rumour about him shadowing another detective true?
