first four minutes of green lantern:frist flight

Outing the animated version ahead of theatrical live action is genius. People will have reviews on the animated version and give reactions to some things important in the GL story such as yellow factor or the willpower constructs.

I think Marvel should have released animated Thor & Captain America to get the same feedback. And as Superman or Flash will be the next film, WB/DC should plan that too.

Why has someone in the US not grabbed the bloody thing yet and put it on Youtube for the rest of us? MTV really pisses me the hell off - they're the only ones who pull that copyright crap

Just like Marvel did with Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Thor, Hulk, and the Avengers? Actually this is a two fold approach. First off they are trying to establish another DC franchise, and secondly, they are trying see how many people are actually interested in the franchise. If they can get the same type of numbers that "Superman/Doomsday" or "Batman: Gotham Knights", then I would certainly call it a success.

Wait till next week after the San Diego Comicon. You will probably be able to get it on VoD or Pay Per View.

guys those cartons on straight to dvd are buyed or ranted from the masses.

fan of the other movies, doomsday, final frontier. looking forward to this.

I'm not sure if this first four minutes are literally the first four minutes, sometimes they change things. it feels a bit rushed. in that four minutes, he's already green lantern.

Obviously that is not the important part of this story. More than likely the people who will be buying this DTV have also bought "Justice League: New Frontier" where there was a more detailed origin of the Green Lantern. I am sure that this is why Bruce Tim and Co. felt it was not that important to go into a lot of detail with how he got the ring, but rather focus on Hal Jordan's training on OA (something that has never been emphasized on animated video before).

Meh. I hope this is their weakest material, and that there's a lot more compelling approach to the rest of the story (and better dialogue). They rush through Sur's death, the selection process and Hal getting the ring, rob the "simulator taking off" moment of much of its tension, and Hal's voice deliveries are touch and go. The animation is nice, though. Not thrilled about the "wrapping transformation". The emerald flames burning looked kind of weird. Oh, and Abin Sur looks like a *****e. "Come close, but not too close, or my face spines will pierce your human skin".

Ok, honestly, was I the only one who had a Sailor Moon flashback when Hal transformed?

meh, i didnt care for this. and given the history of past DC animated movies, i'll probably avoid it without regret.

and yeah, sailor moon transformation? weak. dont like the costume either (were shoulder pads really necessary?). or abin sur's look (looks like potato roots are growing from is face). or hal's ridiculously casual response to everything that he just experienced ('what the hell?' is an appropriate response when taco bell is out of hot sauce.)

this is a pretty contradictory. its called green Latern: FIRST FLIGHT. it's about his origins. it's obviously important enough that they need to make a movie out of it.

even then, why would people need to watch another movie to get the origin, especially a movie that is not connected in any way with this one.

i can understand the filmmakers wanting to focus more on the training, but they have 1.5 to 2 hours for that. no need for him to go through the whole thing in 4 mins. it would have been better to establish more of who hal jordan is.

God no. I can't stand anime.

The best line was Hal in the beginning telling about him and Carol in the simulator. I can totally see Reynolds delivering that line.

"First Flight" can mean your first mission. It doesn't have to include the details on how you became a pilot. The same looks like the case for this film. The writers did not feel that it was that important to place a lot of emphasis on how he got the ring because they wanted the story to be more about how he learned to be a Green Lantern. That is not contradictory. And in truth, in all of Hal Jordan's origin tales, not a lot of time was spent on how he got the ring so they are being consistent with the source material in that aspect. Once again, the majority of folks buying this video probably bought "Justice League: New Frontier", which placed more emphasis on Jordan getting his ring.

Hey, don't knock anime. It has become commercially profitable in our Western civilizations for that past 40 years or more. It is no surprise that this project, as well as other animated series, like Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Batman Beyond, and Spiderman Unlimited were anime-inspired and were very successful.

this is a HUGE assumption. and if it happens to be true, it still shouldn't be necessary. and the trailer doesn't even mention final frontier as one of the movies the producer made, so even the fimmakers are not pushing the association with those two movies. hell, i watched and liked final frontier, but i can't remember what happened with hal jordan.

again, i'm not saying that they should spend a lot of time, and first flight is about his first mission, but he became a GL within the first 4 minutes? why was he the honest one. every origin movie shows a bit about who the alter ego is, just to show how they having the powers makes them different from a typical person if they were given such powers. i don't want to know how he was born, or how he became a pilot. but i would like to know who he is, and what makes him so special.

IMO, i think it would be better just to establish jordan a bit more. i'll still watch it, and will most likely enjoy it, but i'm just saying, a extra scene or two about who hal jordan is would be nice.

First of all, if you go over to Amazon.com and take a look at the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought", and slide over to page 4 you will see that customers also bough "Justice League: New Frontier" as well, so there is a relationship and not an assumption.

this is not necessarily an origin film, but more of a "training day" story like "Emerald Dawn" was. And if it is an origin tale, unless there is a flash back in the film that has not been revealed to us as of yet, the fact that this film didn't is proof of that not all films start out with detail about the person behind the mask. I am sure we will get to know more about Hal Jordan later in the film anyway.

Fair enough, maybe when the do a TV series or in the live action film, they will do that.

i'm sorry, but that doesn't mean crap to me. the movies are still NOT connected. end of story. I'm not sure why you feel the need to connect the two. they are NOT connected in any way other than being DC animation DTVs. that's like using adam west's batman for batman 89. this is not a sequel to that story. its still a BIG assumption. the relationship shown on amazon.com is that people tend to like similar genre of movies. that's about all the assumptions you can get out of that. like i said, the marketing of the film are not connecting the two.

now your second point, i can live with, that it isn't meant to be a origin story. i don't think it's true, but i can accept it. but if it is meant to be a "training day" story, then they should have started the movie with him already as GL.

coming from a guy who is into comics, but doesn't really know anything about the GL story, I feel it was seriously rushed (we are talking about 4 minutes here). whether it was meant to or not, i'm not sure, but from a storytelling aspect, it felt rushed to me.

i'm not sure why you're arguing about this though. if you feel what they did is fine, you are absolutely entitled to it, and it's absolutely valid. its an opinion. I personally feel that it was rushed. but maybe when i see the movie as a whole, it might flow better. it's just as of right now...

superman doomsday, supes/bats: public enemies, gotham knights, are not origin stories. wonder woman was, and i feel, so is this. if they show him getting the the ring, then i consider it an origin.

I'm definitely picking this up on Blu-ray. I've been looking forward to this DTV all summer and it's finally a week away. The animation was pretty fluid with some definite anime inspiration. It works and the style is more mature than Bruce Timm's animation.

Christopher Meloni seems to be good choice for GL. I like what I heard so far.

Saw it.

7/10.

Someone other than Timm and his crew need to take a crack at the DC animated universe.
