So, something a bit more like this then?
Seriously though, I have never complained once about the first look of any comic character I follow. I never ant about Bat nipples, Ang Lee's Hulk with the perfectly fitting CG shorts, Tom Jane's promo photo...hell, because I didn't even care I never said a word about Catwoman.
However, when I clicked on SHH news link this morning, I was all excited until I saw the pic. I just plain don't like the skull. I'm going to wait for picture number 2 for my judgement to be proved though. There is a lot of orange filter light in that shot, and I think the white in the skull is reflecting it, making it even more difficult to see. I think lighting is making a major difference here. I mean, it worked wonders for the 2004 version teaser; you'd believe the coat was leather and Jane's hair was black because of how that ended up being lighted. I'll wait, but right now...very underwhelmed.
Oh and the Segal thing...there is a shot in Under Siege that is almost identical. Didn't think about it until it was mentioned here, but gave me a chuckle!......
Not really.
The Punisher had some bad moments for tactics in it, as well.
During the scene where Castle robs Saint's money laundering operation, Castle puts an exclamation point on one of his statements by racking a round into his shotgun. He should have been carrying his gun in "ready" mode from the second he picked it up, meaning there was a round in the chamber, ready to be fired. There's even a way of loading a shotgun
after chambering a round, thereby maximizing the capacity of the weapon, and they failed to show that process.
I will give you that one of the most frightening sounds in the world is the sound of a shotgun being "pumped", especially in the dark when you don't know where the sound is coming from, but Castle should have been concerned with maximizing his firepower, not psychological intimidation.
Edit: what really disapoints me about the 2003 Punisher is that he supposedly came from a law enforcement backgound, yet he rarely used any law enforcement tactics in what he did.
Edit again: Don't get me wrong, I am not nitpicking, just trying to put forth the perpective of someone who has experienced these situations in real life, and giving a realistic perspective on things. It may seem like nitpicking to some, but for those of us in law enforcement, it's been drilled into our heads so much, it seems like common sense to us.
